Full controller support for standalone Day Z (to Rocket)

I play with a friend on two large 52" and 100" projection screens with surround sound and I do not enjoy using keyboard and mouse on the couch. It hurts my wrist over long periods of time and is just not practical without a desk. I have xpadder mapped to two wireless Xbox controllers and have been playing this way ever since I got DayZ. There are many games that support game pads natively on pc. Using mouse functions in games is not hard either because you can map an analog stick to the mouse using xpadder. If anyone is interested I can share my xpadder profile for DayZ. Many people will argue that a controller is not worth exploring due to the so called "handicap" of aiming but if you practice that can be minimized. IMHO I hope that dayz standalone has native controller support.
  2. This has been discussed 1000 times before locking the server may give some players an advantage but those servers will get blocked from the main hive. Any private server worth being on will have their own private hive and a whitelist to block players who haven't specifically asked to play on the server. This is the standard way of playing Arma II since the engine is built for simulations and is trusting of the game client data received from players.

This problem should be eased when reserved slots get added. Creating all these rules about how the game should be played just makes it more fun for hackers. I've played mods for other games where the author got all self-righteous and removed administrative features because people were "abusing" them and let me tell you it is a community killer.

    Green Mt.

You won't see him first but you will hear that music and it is terrifying.

    Green Mt.

It's a hacker that uses his powers to freak people out with a custom skin and a creepy music through voice chat. He will come at you bro with an axe and break your legs and drag you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you to die with like 2000 blood. He will chase you on multiple servers and generally fuck your shit up. As far as I know there isn't any way to kill him.

According to devs the hive servers are relatively load free as far as I/O and db access... There are plenty of servers that have their own hive databases already. There's no reason that it should cost $700 to host low-usage db servers. There are more modern cloud based solutions available today which could make cloud hive access 100% free.

    Standalone Dayz???

Just got into DayZ a few weeks ago and do not plan to buy the standalone version. Its lame that we have basically brought Rocket all of his fans in the mod community and now he is turning his back on us to start a brand new one. Rocket will have pretty much full control of the ptoject so we can expect to have drm and hardcore locking down of all aspects of the game. If you dont like the rules then thats just too bad.

Found Mountain Dew but had a fail moment

They should make a movie where some random peeps find a mountain dew in a barn and then they're like OH SHI- in total final destination glory as their entrails are splattered all over the room by total random fuckery. Must be from seemingly supernatural forces using elaborate hidden death goldberg machines. e.g. (water spills on toaster which activates garbage disposal which makes me walk over to turn it off except that the moisture from my cooking has loosened the vase suspended over my head causing it to snap and squish my brains out while getting electrocuted).

I don't really consider the developers of Day-Z to be a company since they are not providing any type of paid service to customers. This is a fan mod of Arma II and Rocket cannot sell this mod without express permission from Bohemia Interactive. However I do not see that as an impossibility since he still does freelance work for them (this was in a RoosterTeeth podcast). I am however appreciative that Rocket has taken his own free time to make this mod because it is a lot of fun to play. BattleEye is only really concerned with the player experience on Day-Z if it affects Arma II. I have heard that the admins have some connections to the staff there but i'm sure their contract does not specify that they have to support mods. Most games that have the capability to be modded don't officially support modding in any form or fashion.

I believe rocket did say he was working on a reserved slot system.
  11. It may be possible to record the player id and that way aggro could be preserved when switching from server to server. This would protect people who are momentarily disconnected.

Kill more zeds & get more revarded

The system right now seems to work pretty well but it would be nice if I could loot a pistol or a rifle every now and then from a downed military zed. Perhaps other people want to survive and others want to fight and regain control of smaller zombie infested areas (if at least for a limited amount of time). The zombies could get hungry at night like in minecraft and it should be necessary to find cover for the night.

    Make survival a challenge

I agree with all of this maybe there should be a harder setting for Day-Z! The zombies do need a 15 min timer or something because after killing 100s of zombies they just keep instantly respawning. At least in Resident Evil you could go back and collect your loot and you know that you did because it was scarce.

I just want to point out that setting boundaries and enforcing them through software is never going to work. The people who want to grief are going to grief regardless of who posts what in big red bold font. The rules didn't stop the server admins we were playing with from torturing one of my friends by putting rounds in his legs and arms and yelling profanity into his face. You can kick anybody you want by just blocking their address on the server. Not everyone is going to be a good sport and you definitely can't force people to change. All I'm saying here is that the bad guys are gonna be bad but there are plenty of good guys here who want to help but not if we have to worry about somebody running and fibbing to mommy. I think it is rediculous to release software onto the internet and expect people to only use it how you want them to use it. The cool thing about mods is that there aren't any rules and I think we should use that to make Day-Z a better game for everyone.

    Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed

I would like to know who has been killing everyone. It doesn't have to be a giant red splotch or eve centric bandit system but maybe a player kill count or something.
