It looked like he may be running a private, non HIVE, server. But I could be mistaken.

Before logging into a server make sure you have the same files funning on the server. Usually they'll be like 1.7.1.3 or 1.7.1.4. These are the actual DayZ mod version, and I have found that while running 1.7.1.4 I cannot log into 1.7.1.3 servers. The second number, which should be something like 95417, if the ArmA2 beta version. I believe this is backwards compatible, so you can log into some servers that say 95387 if you're running 95417. Edit: By cannot log in I mean I can log in, but I get stuck at loading.

I believe its turned off per the Rocket and the teams desire - something about it breaking the immersion.

Yeah I was watching for a bit and saw him teleport the person with the female voice. She was all like 'Oh god! What happened?? I just got summoned. Oh god there is a guy in a ghillie suit here.' The guy in the ghillie was the Dragon dude. I guess they were sucking so hard on the public servers that no one wanted to watch them die constantly so they got their own server and started hacking it up. Pretty pathetic.

I've been on servers where direct comm wasn't working. :x Luckily neither of us shot each other.

Looks like a hacker had found a spawn point and placed bear traps on the shore as well as in the water. The white symbol means you were in shock. It will last a little while and then go away. When you died I believe it was just more bear traps but under the water. Might want to try switching to a different server.

Not sure how they're in the minority? Turn of friendly fire between those who select the 'Survivor' role. That way survivors just can't shoot/steal from other survivors but are more than able to defend themselves against bandits. Also, the entire theory behind being able to just yank guns out of peoples backpacks is whacked and should be removed. As if anyone with half a brain would actually allow someone to walk up to them and then watch as they undid all the straps on the backpack, rummaged through it, and pulled a freakin M4 out of it as well as some clips. Easy fix for this - make stealing from other peoples bags have a timed animation of 5, 10, 15 seconds depending on what they're grabbing. You could even have the player stealing kneel and do the 'Meat' cooking action or something.

The game has a male/female option when creating a character and the original game, unless I'm mistaken, supports multiple teams. So why not make a Survivor/Bandit option before or after male/female. Selecting Bandit: Selecting bandit would pretty much allow you to play the game as is. You can shoot anyone; survivors, other bandits, and zeds alike. The bandit would also have a specific skin which would tell people that hey, they're probably not friendly. Selecting Survivor: Would only allow you to shoot bandits, and not other friendlies. Would restrict you from stealing from other players packs. Use the normal survivor skins. The other suggestion would be to make Zeds more aware of the presence of bandits. More blood on your hands, they sniff you out from further ranges and more easily. Possibly even go beserk - faster attack, more damage, faster move speed etc. These are only suggestions. The problem that I see with the game in regards to bandits is that there isn't a penalty for being one. You can kill all the players you want and nothing changes. On the other hand, being friendly and trying to help others has ALL of the risks. Want to help someone with a blood transfusion? Well... hope he doesn't put a bullet in your face afterward. There needs to be more risks to being a bandit and because there isn't I think the majority of the people sitting the fence feel that its just easier to shoot first and ask questions later.

I personally am fine with a time on between using Alt F4 and when you disconnect from the server, but I think they should worry about more important things like the rampant hacking issues and ghosting before bothering with changes to Alt F4.

Hmm... wonder if Rocket and the team could get an afternoon TV soap opera spot: 'DayZ of Our Lives'... God knows he has enough script being written for him right here. Though... it would probably fair better as a late night adult swim show...

This server is most likely a server not on the hive. Edit: Also as far as I have read, it is against the hosting lisence agreement to have global chat enabled as by default it comes disabled from the DayZ team and editting the server files is against the agreement made when setting up a server.

Although I don't agree with hacking, I find it amusing that this hacker went after a griefer killing newly spawned unarmed survivors. You're about as good for the game as the hackers are imho.

The HIVE isn't in place to prevent people from DC'ing. Its the main database server that keeps track of everyone's character and what gear they have so that people can't just edit their character files and cheat. Pretty sure the HIVE is here to stay regardless of people disconnecting or not.

Yeah but I have to locate, kill, butcher, and cook those on my own... -.-
