So judging by your incredibly charismatic post (which of course given the subject at hand is completely justified), I take it that in real life muzzle flashes are like the ones on the images posted? What ya know, looks like Hollywood was under-doing it after all!

Standalone any better off in terms of ******
linfosoma replied to harley001's topic in General Discussion
1-I think the hacker situation is better, I haven't come across any on about 20 hours of gameplay so far but I've read a few posts about it so your mileage may vary. At least it's not like when I stopped playing the mod where there were full on server wipes and boats on top of buildings. 2-I think it's surprisingly stable, there's plenty of glitches related to Arma's absolutely terrible collision detection, so your legs might break randomly or you might fall of a roof and die like a mate of mine, but other than that it's good. 3-Kill on sight, it's insane, play with friends or prepare to die. 4-Errr, you can get into houses, there's a ton of new loot, the new character models and weapons look awesome. Not much else has been implemented, but there's a lot of promising stuff in there. -
Not sure if a mythbusters series would be useful at this point, but I think that a tutorial series would definitely help.

Character models and textures are top notch: Riding with friends: On the top: Lulz: -
Im fully geared now without server hoping, all I did was head straight north, loot isn't respawning at the moment so your best bet is to go to a town that hasn't been visited yet. I met several players on my quest north, but we mostly decided to stay out of each other's way, finally I made it to the north and got full gear, an M4 with a scope, bipod, and 3 double magazines, a pistol with a magazine (these are super rare) and I have enough water and food for a month. I got all of this in a legit way and I've been alive for about 10 real world hours now. I guess what Im getting at is: not all of us are server hoppers, if you know where to look you can get in good shape very quickly.

Random comment, but I like that if you put the syringe in your hand you basically look like Wolverine :p

Is the Xbox 360 controller working fully?
linfosoma replied to MeatBap's topic in General Discussion
I haven't tried the gamepad but I have it plugged into the PC since I play other games with it (seriously, playing games from bed is THE BEST), the menu displays the buttons from the pad which makes me think full controller support will be implemented at some point. Also, in before "herp derp, PC gamez must be playd with a keboard lolz" -
Exactly, maybe someday some kind of bounty hunter system will be introduced, until then I like to think of myself as a dark avenger :D

I think the issue will be improved once occlusion culling is added to towns (I remember Rocket saying this would happen eventually on one of his streams). Ideally, the game should render the outside of the house and the inside separately, so when you are at a certain distance it should only render the outside and as you get close it'll start rendering the inside as well. If they manage to do this we should see a big improvement in performance. Of course, depending on how these houses might have been built this might require some art changes so it could take some time.

Possible bug: Is the sun pointing in the right direction?
linfosoma posted a topic in General Discussion
So, on all the servers I've been it appears that the sun is not on the correct position, I tend to use it as a guide to know where the north, east, etc is, but after acquiring a compass I've noticed that the sun (at morning) seems to be at the south rather than the east. The compass is ok because I was able to follow the map along with it, but the sun is unreliable. Is this a server side bug or general? -
Beards, how can we not have beards in the game? I can't become the ultimate hobo survivor without one. I miss looking this handsome:

As the title says, Im still relying on Arma 2's map to get my bearings, has anyone come up with an updated map that includes the new stuff on the SA?
-
Is there an updated map for the SA's Chernarus?
linfosoma replied to linfosoma's topic in General Discussion
That's pretty cool, thanks! -
This one is kind of fun, I started as a black female character, I found some gloves and when I equipped them her arms turned white :p
-
So, I joined a server after the latest update and for some reason I started over with a new character and lost all my stuff, usually I would be pissed but immediately I saw the magnificent light of the radiant sun and I just didn't care anymore. I'll find another M4, but the sun is forever. And I have to say, once you actually get to look at it this game is very handsome! I was in a server hosted by MPGS
-
We appreciate it alright, we just wish we could appreciate 50% and be able to actually see anything the other 50%.
-
Of course! It's so simple, I guess all I have to do is quit my job and responsibilities so I can play this game during the day! Thanks man, I don't know why I was so selfish to ask for an option to play in daylight during a time that's more reasonable with my personal schedule.

Will Standalone have the, uh... scary mountain radio thing?
linfosoma replied to blurhitz's topic in General Discussion
"The radio thing" The most specific clarification of 2013!! -
Not sure if it can run at 120, but you can change the refresh rate on the DayZ.cfg file in My Documents.
-
Yeah, these are pretty much the only complains I have so far. Regarding the VOIP issue, it's not a complete solution but for the time being you can simply go to the menu and turn the volume for VIOP all the way down.
-
Hey people, I was wondering how exactly do you rest in the SA? I tried to sit down for a while but it doesn't seem that the messages claiming "I feel tired" are going away by doing it, I also figured that maybe if I disconnect for a while it would count as resting but that didn't work either. Do I have to find a bed to sleep or something like that?

IS ANYONE TIRED OF HEARING "ITS JUST AN ALPHA" ?
linfosoma replied to piffaroni's topic in General Discussion
I really dont get, the description of the game on Steam is not an actual description of the game but a warning explaining what you should expect from this alpha. I know reading is annoying sometimes but next time before you spend $30 on a game you should perhaps consider READING the warning and deciding if you are up to the task or not. Personally, Im not currently going to be playing the alpha a whole lot but I am pleased with what I've got, the game works, it's got a ton of new content and promising features, my only complaints so far are the constant night time servers and rather obtuse feedback when it comes to hunger, thirst, etc which I know are currently being worked on. Honestly, for an Alpha this is quite polished, I was surprised I managed to join a server at all, server wise it seems more stable than the mod even, which is surprising for a launch day on such a big title. Anyway, please understand, you bought an Alpha, you've got tons of warnings and Rocket even asked people NOT TO BUY THE GAME (who does that? Seriously, name someone else in this industry who does that) and you decided to buy it anyway, the result is that every time you complain about something you will find the reply: "It's an Alpha" Because it is. -

About half the servers are down now, it seems general

In my own personal experience, now that I dont have a bandit skin anymore I've taken this as a second chance. Before even if I wanted to help someone I couldn't because my skin would mislead people, I had no choice, but now Im trying to be a survivor and help others whenever I can. Removing bandit skins means you cant tell who is who, yes, but it also means that us bandits are no longer forced to play one way because of the skin we are using.
