    Knowledge / Learning

    I have been thinking about this since last week. I personally dont know how to repair a helicopter, and I doubt anyone with military training (Day Z characters) would. It would be cool to have to find books that 'teach' you to repair or do other complicated tasks. As you learn things you will be more careful not to get killed, because if you die all your knowledge will be lost. Dont quite dig more icons on the screen and percentages.

    Welcome new player. Just keep in mind that 1.) This is not your common game, and 2.) Its ALPHA stage, its not a final release. Enjoy trying to survive as long as you can!

    I was on Cherno when I heard shots, I tried to follow the noise and got to a church, with zeds dead by the closed door. While hidden, I opened the door then Tom in the chat said 'Wtf' and closed it again. I proceeded to open and close the door a couple of times, and then finally left it open. I said "Who is at the Church in Cherno?" and Tom replied "Russian Church, by the ocean, cherno?" I pressed 'E' on my keyboard an saw him, he was a survivor, I was a bandit. After I pressed like five times 'E' we both lol'd, I asked him if there was any loot, he told me 'plenty'. I came inside and he closed the door behind me, told me to help myself, there was common loot, you know... a couple of flares and chemlights, some tin cans, I only took one can of beans and a soda and then he went AFK. I took aim and I was ready to put a bullet to his head... the truth is I just did not want to. I became a Bandit killing survivors in cold blood, sometimes for the loot, sometimes just for fun and sometimes when it was a kill or die situation. I have killed survivors that had helped me minutes ago and I also killed brand new survivors that just respawned. I didnt do it. I gave my thanks to Tom and told him he should not trust bandits this easily. Closed the door behind me, it was 'his' church. "oh and Tom? ... Stay Safe" - - - - - - - - - - - - Just wanted to share a story where even when I had a Bandit skin and I could have killed him I didnt, and he didnt shoot either. It felt good. Im back to killing anyone I meet, but maybe someday I wont feel like it, I hope when that happens, the other survivor to be another Tom. Thanks Tom.

    Heh' date=' it's a bit more complicated than that. I mean that apple doesn't provide an emulator (afaik) for their device to test your code on incrementally. So I'd have to physically do it on an iPod, etc; Unless you can code. In that case, I'll offer you all the help I can in porting when I have something to give you. [/quote'] Sent you a PM :)

    You don't get to decide what is fine or not, users can decide to whine and bitch if they want, like you with your all-caps post. Its up to the mods to ban users who break the rules. And if enough users call something shit, maybe that's not the direction the mod should go. Ultimately Rocket is who decides so, whatever the fuck, I know I will play it anyways, lulz. Also, thanks Rocket, this is the best mod I've ever played.

    @275RR, those are neat ideas, can you post them in this thread? http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3779 @Frito Pendejo, so you would rather just kill anyone regardless? What difference does it make? To Bandits, nothing. Its the same, maybe even better. To good Survivors, its a hell of a lot of difference.
  17. As much as I like the Bounty/Witnessing/Passport system, I dont think it would be added. For these reasons: 1.- Complexity: What you are describing sounds like a lot of work would be involved. If I were to suggest a solution, I would suggest something just as easy as to remove the whole Bandit system. Keep it simple, yet efficient. 2.- Unrealistic: It is self descriptive, even if Rocket himself said "That's not what is happening here. I'm not looking at something realistic, that isn't possible. I'm aiming for authenticity to the extent possible, but I'm realistic about what can be achieved there." So, to suggest a solution we must work with that in mind. 3.- Credibility: Bandits are known to lie and deceive, but in reality anyone can do it, even newbie survivors. The truth is, the system is flawed. What stops me from putting a bounty on someone that killed defending himself? Or an enemy? Remember... "Everybody lies". This is why even fixing the communication problem, nothing would change. In a fucked up world you have to lie to survive. The reasons I think the system works well right now are simple. Why do Bandits kill? There are a number of valid reasons: For the lulz, for Loot, for Food, for revenge (being killed too much by deceiving survivors). While Bandits get a cool, functional actually (I tested it) Camo suit, it also marks them as... well, Bandits. It has pros and cons, and thats the way it should be. They also have to work if they want to keep their humanity, which leads to interesting strategies, like helping survivors and then killing them. Everyone learns about this. Taking this away will lead to distrust and shoot-on-sight everywhere (because of the reason you have already given). Anyway, while I think Rocket will read our ideas, I doubt he would implement anything we say (tho he could surprise me, as I dont know the man), but its fun to play and dream with ideas, so I would say we work with Complexity, Authenticity and Credibility. A simple, yet perfect and fair solution.

    The thing is, you will fuck the balance as it is now. But lets just try it. I think there are ways to achieve both, a way to craft/find/loot skin wear, AND a Bandit/Survivor system, you could actually solve this without destroying the balance. It was cool to have factions while it lasted tho, now it will be all vs all.
