    Why the radio silence?!?

In other news, Rocket came back to work last night. Last tweet around 6 o'clock in the morning, still working on artifacts. I would be quite surprised to see a patch today, as he hopefully is sleeping now. Well, at least he is able to do something now.

Stop saying "friendly" and immediately trusting me

While I think that OP is pretty low in his actions, he hit the head on the nail. As of now, the risks of teaming up with strangers far outweigh the benefits. I would very much like some tasks that required cooperation. In the extreme, the only healing could come from gear that was very easily acquired, but only could be done by another player. Or some valuable kit only being accessible through teamwork.

    Why the radio silence?!?

Well, Rocket pushed 1.7.2.5 just before leaving. He did so specifically to stop the glitching. He failed at that, but he actually tried. Then he runs the media circus and I guess he got about a million offers to sell out, but he is still here, so I guess we will see some development now.

    Underrated Weapons

I think the most underrated PvZ weapon is the revolver. For some reason, it still drops zombies in one shot after the nerf, making it a wonderful tool for shopping.
  5. According to DayzWiki, camo clothing is a possible pick-up in a lot of places. I found one in a pub in Cherno.

Met a hacker... and I pity him

I think you are right in assuming a female player gets a lot more open reception in most games. It is a bit depressing we cannot get equal rights, one of the reasons my wife never reveals herself to be female. And I have met other people like the OP describes. They are using cheats to be superior, and then are friendly in the hope that awe make up for the friendliness they need. I am not saying all hackers are that sad, but that kind of hackers are a sad breed indeed. In regard to white hatters, I'd like to chime in with my what I did today. <brag> </brag> So why this story? The point is that my gear is getting nice, but not 1337. I had to leave the AS50 and other guns because I would have problems resupplying ammunition (yes I forgot all about M249 and STANAG  ) I spend a whole day getting that DMR and a single mag, and I am damn proud of it. Had a hacker given me a similar weapon, I don't think I would have had the experience I had today. If I knew that an airlift was around, I would not have had to make the cross-country hike, with the following excitement. The thrill of DayZ is finding shinies, white hatters are taking the joy of shinies away. I dare no longer take a weapon from a corpse because I am afraid it is hacked in. What is the warmth of someone giving a helping hand when they can do so without any risk for them? What is the value of a rifle they give you when it is spawned in? Neither are necessities for survival, put things to strive for because they are hard to get. Getting them for free devalues them, and no one offering an item admits them to be hacked. I got shot while I was in the middle of nowhere yesterday, crouching in a bush at night on a server with four people online. It aggrieved me less than free weapon would have done. Short version: White hat hackers are even more damaging to the game than black hats. It is not that they play the game their way, they force their way upon us.

    Not all hackers are bad

@Quaby: And that is where you miss the point. It is not a matter of their attitude. I put up with legit spawn rapers without complaint, although their only purpose in life seems to be making small boys cry by taking their candy. When hacking is allowed, it sets a different standard. In this case they are distorting the original vision of DayZ, which is the unforgivingness of the game. You don't have to be careful if you know that a medevac is on standby. You don't value your DMR if it is given to you by someone who could conjure it out of thin air. Now, when players get used to that, they start complaining about the game being to harsh when playing on the main hive. Or they have a snug little sig file telling the world about their gear, making the impression that everyone and their mother have a legit .50 sniper rifle with an M4SD as backup. So while murderous hackers make life difficult, nice hackers spoils the experience. If we could cut their experience completely off from the rest of the world, including stories about it, I would only dislike them. But as it stands, they are actively influencing, and thus changing, DayZ.

    Not all hackers are bad

If you justify taxi by hackers, or trading with hackers, you seriously devalue the services offered. Further, maiking anything easy in DayZ is against the basic premise of the game, it is supposed to be unforgiving. If you see a hacker, get an admin. If you cannot get an admin to do something about it, find another server to go regular on. The private hive is no excuse. Anyone who joins the server will be subjected to the consequences of their hacking, whether they claim they do it for good or bad. It sets a different standard, which people then carry over to the main hive ("Why can't we have friendly hackers here? They are doing good on the private hive"). And what is next? Hacking to get a medic to a wounded character? Hacking to avenge a betrayed clanmate? Hacking to get rid of the annoying n00b raper down by Cherno? Hacking to replace lost gear by a glitch? or a miscalculated zombie getting a one in a million kill? To sum up, I don't ever think hackers add something positive to the game, and their actions do have negative consequences for us all. Ban them. Ban them all.

Another thread on random killing? (Kind of long)

Actually, we already have the zones: Cherno, Elektro and NWA. What I see as the problem is that it already pays off to go in groups. But still, we need some way to make people more dependent on one another. If there was a limit on how much you could eat, you would be a lot more willing to seek others for a transfusion. A higher chance of unconsciousness would make it more risky to go in alone. It would mean that people would be pretty bad off when they spawn, but then again DayZ is not about fair. Maybe a good availability of signal flares would help people find one another. I think the zombies should represent a significant risk, even against fully decked out players. That would increase the tendency for people everywhere to band together. I would hate taking away the prospect of cold blooded murder and all out betrayal, but right now the zombies are so docile that other players are the real threats. I wonder i it was possible to include crew-served weapons like M2HB or mortars as high level loot. If you need ten slots for the receiver, another five for the barrel and ten again for the mount, you have to have at least three man to operate the weapon. On the other hand, you get enough firepower to level a small town. More vehicles that needed more spare parts would also change the gameplay, as spare parts are heavy. You would be more willing to risk a stranger seeing your truck if the real find was the motor he just helped you carry to get it working.
  10. I have been shot at least once and killed at least once as a consequence of paranoia. This had nothing to do with ill will towards another player or greed, simply killing out of fear for turning ones back on another. The reasoning is that if you get first shot on another player, you are definitely sure to win the ensuing firefight. Further, people with handguns are helpless against other players. The pathetic damage means that the other player just need to pull out a bandage and carry on. However, as far as I can read, in real life a lot of people have fought back even after sustaining multiple wounds, while others drop dead from a single .22 in an accidental discharge. I think a simulation of this would change peoples attitude towards shooting quite a bit: You know that you will probably get to win if you shoot, but there is a reasonable chance that you will die in the process. On the other hand, if you decide to make a living from killing, you are just as safe as you always where, picking off people that cannot even see you, as you are hidden half a kilometer away with a sniper rifle. So, change the damage mechanic to a 'chance to kill' mechanic. A bullet will always cause blood loss in a rate related to its internal ballistic properties, might break bones, might cause unconsciousness, or might kill outright, but the last only rarely. The more deadly the bullet, the bigger the chance of it all, but no bullet has zero probability of doing any of these things. So, doing things this way would allow bandits to go on, a very important aspect of Dayz. But hopefully it lowers the umber of gunfights initiated just to ensure the other player does not shoot back. Another nice change would be the ability to change from your axe and flashlight without having to find space in your backpack. Someone wit an axe out is inherently a lot less threatening than someone with a long gun, but you might need the gun for an occasional extra reach. I know that you can lower the rifle and sometimes even do, but I tend to have my pistol out when raiding cities, and that one cannot be lowered. If we really would like to get of sniping murderers, the zombies could develop a sense of smell. If you stay in an area for to long, zombies will pick up your scent and start to aggro on you, even from afar.

    Your "hidden" camps.

I don't think anyone has found my tent yet. It is placed a good minute walk into a forest from in a non-cardinal compass direction from an inconspicuous bush. If I die, I cannot find it reliably until I pick up a compass. Still, it is reasonably near all the daily necessities, and I eagerly await tents saving properly so I can stash them. My first camp was in a bit more open position, but I was very surprised that you could see it from far away due to distance culling of vegetation. As others said, tents in the open are death traps. If you don't get shot exploring them, you can assume that it is due to the sniper not currently being online

WTT AS50 TWS for 2 tents

I think we can assume that weapons not on the current list are hacked in. While it might theoretically be legit, the chance of an extremely rare weapon being hacked in and/or duped are astronomical. If you want to do the honorable thing and destroy it, you can kill a zombie, place the weapon on said zombie and hide the body. Gone. Once Rocket gets a reasonable stable and less hacked game up and running, I'll be very happy about a db wipe as well.
  13. Is it intentional that DE275 is always daylight? it seems to reset the clock so it turns morning every 12 hours, completely skipping nights?

Would you Abort if in Danger of death?

I hate gunfights with a passion, but I don't quit. I've had one exception: I was in a supermarket when someone throws a nade through the door. I run into the back room and switch my AK-74 to full auto. Soon after, a guy enters, and I unload all over him. He had a crossbow, so I wonder a bit if he was the one with the nade. I hear gunshots and zombies outside, but at that point I have to leave to pick up my daughter at school, so I never got to the end of it. Even then, I feel kinda bad for running a supermarket without having enough time to handle sticky situations. If I hear gunshots in the distance, I usually head another way. I'd rather avoid the fight, and common, justified paranoia makes fighting inevitable.

Berezino not all its cracked up to be...

I think the only thing Berenzino has to say for it is the emptiness. Low risk, low reward. However, the hospital has a very easy route in and out.
  16. I don't experience hackers on the DE server I frequent, but it is rather sparsely populated. I'd like it to stay that way.

Do a lot of girls play dayz?

My wife absolutely pwns me at MW2, and was our trusty point defense in Insurgency with an RPK. She did medic and zerk in Killing Floor. Her rig cannot handle Arma II, but she think the premise of Dayz is interesting. However, she does not even talk in games unless she has admin and can kickban guys who are offensive. Quite a few guys cannot handle the existence of the opposite sex, but the way they behave I dont think they'll procreate anyway ;)

    Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update

I am getting graphics errors on 95883, but downgrading to 95819 made them go away? Running ATI HD 6990 on win7 64 bit enterprise
  20. Thanks, I consider setting up a home in DE 275. Actually, the obfuscation works in my advantage, less risk of invasion ;)

    Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update

Using the latest updates, playing on DE 275, the ammo glitch is still present. As usual, it is quite a random thing with some mags reloading and some not.

    Zombies way too hard now

I think it is a very important point of the game that it means you have made a mistake if you have to shoot. It is a tad anoying with zombies glitching, and I am uncertain of the lag compensation mechanisms, but what I like about the game is sneaking around cities trying to get supplies. While I hunt military zombies at deer stands for ammunition, I really feel it is against the game. The chance of one hit KO should definitely stay in game. It means that no matter the amount of gear you gather, death is just a single mistake away, Right now a lot of people are sitting on fat stashes and might have forgotten the need for raiding, but even on a closed server, a trip to NW airfield should carry significant risk and require careful approach.

    Congratulations Rocket and dev team!

So, where do we send our money?

    Refillable ammo clips

This would be good. I would be happy with a 'merge magazine' function to merge magazines with a few bullets, and 'reload magazines' when you have a box of appropiate ammunition (5.56 or 7.62) available. Neither would require any new UI, which takes a long time to implement.

    Difference between Zed and Zombie?

I first encountered the term 'zed' in the game Killing Floor, where it is the official term for the zombies (in that case genetic experiments gone horribl wrong). The game is from 2009, and the mod that preceeded it started in 2005. However, I am not certain whether it is the source of the term. We usually call them out as walkers, hoppers or crawlers in comms, and zombies in discussions. The word zed just doesn't sit well on the tongue, possibly because it is a monosyllable. The difference between the zombies are by class (civilian, military and a few distinctive others). It makes a difference in their drops, and we often hunt military zombies near deer stands for ammunition.
