    "Love life" during the apocalypse

Statistically speaking, whenever males or females spend a significant amount of time together, no matter how screwed up the situation is, pregnancies occur. So I guess that relationships would evolve in an apocalypse as well. Speaking from a evolutionary standpoint, it would be madness not to spread ones genes as fast as possible, given the initial onslaught is over with.

    Guide to 1.7.7

That is exactly what the mod is trying to get away from. Sure, a lot of players are going to leave, but they can be entertained everywhere else. Then DayZ can cater to those who are happy about this style. Are you sure this is not a server problem? I just had my screen slowly fade to desaturation and my indicators going down as usual, in a vanilla game.

    Constructive feedback for 1.7.7

I can think of certain situations where it will not only be in accordance with laws of physics, but also fully relevant. However, game design has nothing to do with that :D

Thank you SO SO much for this patch

I think this game has gotten a lot more Rogue then before. Now, when I play, I do not expect to survive when I land on the beach, because the big cities are off limits. With no gear, the most risky thing you can do is sneaking the outskirts of small towns and pray for a melee weapon, or enough supplies until you have one. Then, you can start raiding barns and outlying industrial, a gun and hunters equipment being the great prize. Only when you can hope to go to hot areas, still taking a huge risk in doing so before you finally have a secure collection of loot. Each step in the process is unforgiving in gameplay. If you screw up, you are dead or infected. Sometimes it is just a matter of simple bad luck. This brings this game in line with Rogue and its successors, which I think is a huge step in the right direction. Once you have a full gear, you have basically won the game unless you wanna go full out deathmatch, and a lot of other games offer a much better experience at that. So for the game to be a real succes on its own terms, you need to make the process of getting proper gear long, interesting and difficult. Surely, the game is going to lose a lot of players that feel differently, and personnaly I cannot bring myself to start more than once in an evening when I die due to dissapointment. But I think the game is a lot more true to its core values.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

Is infection modifiable serverside? I have been beaten severely several times this morning and nothing happened apart from blood loss. Found matches in a random house, it now pays to go to the out of the way places unless you are packing serious firepower due to lower zombiecount and better possibility of sneaking. The zombies inside the houses is a seriously nasty surprise, it will take a while to get used to. Is it correct that zombies never stop chasing now?

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

Hooray, looking forward to die in new, interesting and hideous ways :)
  7. For me whitelisting makes the difference. Since the roster is limited and the douches get sorted out, you have a far better knowledge of what to expect, and not getting telefragged by a cheater.

Lets be honest: How many times?

Far more than to players. I survive for a while, starts thinking that I can rush a loot spot, and a zombie either comes from behind me, or I think I can manage to grab the loot before they come near, or my shots wakes up the entire city, or a hit causes knockdown. And should I happen to survive the zombies by focusing on them, there is always someone handy with a rifle nearby. I like to think that I learn a little from my mistakes each time, but appearently that is a convienient lie.

How do you feel about donation bonuses?

I am as a matter of principle against any such privileges. Asking for donations is fine, and when I settle for a server I tend to donate. Until a year ago I financed a root server of several games. But if you take on setting up a server, you should realise that it is something you pay for, not a service you sell to others. I don't think that anyone runs a server makes profit from donations, but it opens up a slippery slope. Five years ago, servers where hosted by geeks covered to their necks in game and server maintenance who did their job for the admiration they got from the community. While it was possible to donate, it was not expected. I feel a lot of the change came around Battlefield 2 BC, where you had to rent servers instead of being able to set up your own. This means that you have to pay for each game, instead of having a server and being able to have some game or other installed, depending on whatever your clan fancies at the moment. It also means that commercialisation is way more inbred in to the server, and since you pay the gameserver providers for a game they did not make, it makes more sense to recover the cost by providing incentives for others. However, this mentality opens up for server admins who feel that since they pour hours of work into maintaining their game and talking care of cheaters and trolls, they ought to get something more tangible than gratitude. Especially if they do not feel the gratitude, but rather a boatload of complaints whenever the mess hits the fan on provider level. I do not think this is the case yet, but I know of a person (not from these parts) who had a community forum and the status it provided, but whenever bills had to be paid suddenly was broke and had to ask for money to cover the costs. I guess this became a bit longwinded, but it sort of boils down to this (TL;DR): Shun any server with donation benefits, and show respect and gratitude towards admins on servers that don't. In the end, it will make for a healthier server selection.

    Did Namalsk get it right?

I think that the difference between warm clothes and not on Namalsk is a deal breaker; once you have clothes, it is no harder than Chernarus. I would like it to be less harsh without warm clothes and more harsh when you have them. And an increase in antibiotics, so it would be an option to look for them instead of dying once you catch infection.
  11. I want really long term goals with incremental improvements. With a vehicle, I spend a lot of time scavenging for parts, stockpiling wheels and engines. I would like to have the ability to do similar things with buildings, consolidating them to safe houses. I play when I have something to strive for, afterwards the winning move is not to play. I would like the standard day to be out of period with the real world, so that you would sometimes play day, sometimes night. I would like that when you logged off, you would be vulnerable to zombies unless someone else used the same place to log off. This would discourage lone wolfing and encourage strangers to trust one another for long enough to create mutal log out spots. You might get killed, but if you don't trust that stranger, you sure will.
  12. It will consolidate choppers as an absolute group effort. No going rambo, and if you want to refuel, you better lay down a defence perimeter. Better yet, make sure that you have a ground crew ready, with vehicles to supply the jerrycans. We need more incentives to form communities anyway. On a side note, I hope this means 1.7.5 is stable enough to be released 'soonish'

Combat loggers now get replaced with bots!

According to change log, we'll get more antibiotics as well. I like the change, it gives another incentive to respect the zombies and a need to raid and keep more supplies.

Just think of the youtube videos of that stunt :D

A good non PvP server out there?

Personally, I play at british one hit wonder http://www.1hw.co.uk There is a policy that if you state you are friendly when entering for the night, you very rarely get attacked. I got shot once in an accident, but that is about it. On the other hand, PvP'ers are sneaking around near the hot spots, trying to get the drop on one another.

    good private hive

I prefer private servers hosted by the british one hit wonder clan, http://www.1hw.co.uk As long as you play friendly and announce where you are going, people don't kill you. OTOH when you want to PvP, there are some pretty tough nails waiting to bag you.

Starving to death needs to be COMPLETELY overhauled.

Amateur. Yesterday I had a fuel tank, a tire, a pile of scrap metal in my backpack, a front windscreen, an smg and an axe elsewhere on my person, as well as various necessities, including an entire toolbox and a handgun. Then I ran for five minutes straight and fixed my totalled car in about 5 seconds.
  18. I killed a bandit yesterday. We where picking off zombies in Chernogorsk from the hillside when someone killed one of my mates. It is night, but I am told the gunfire came from left flank. Checking, I see a figure and open up with my Kobra in bursts. While I reload, he breaks and runs, obviously hoping to loose us in the darkness, but I chase and find him in cover behind a tree, where another long burst brings him down. It was the most exciting experience I have had in a videogame. Due to the slow regearing process, you play for a lot higher stakes than in any shooter, and I had the feeling that a lucky shot from the bandit would have ended the night. I felt vengeful, because he shot a friend who had done him no wrong. I felt triumphant when I realised that he was down, even more when we took his NVG, DMR, rangefinder and FAL.
  19. There are two ways of approaching this: First off, whoever pays, gets to decide the rules. As others have stated, you are in no way bound to a single server, and I would leave if I found admin abuse. However, that is not the real argument why admins should be able to know everything. The proper argument is policing. I used to admin a FPS game server. Fulfilling that function, I spend quite a lot of time speccing other players, on both teams, even if I was playing in one of the teams. I did this to check for cheating, mostly wallhacks and aimbots. In DayZ, admins should be able to go into admin mode and spectate players suspected of teleports, radar, aimbots and all that kind of stuff. It also means that the admins ought to refrain from raiding camps, as they will gather intel while performing admin functions, but it ould definitly make me feel safer if I knew admins where watching. The admins have to be able to take responsibility for their server, making it a comfortable place to play, whatever they decide that is. Personally, I play private hive, at 1hw.co.uk, and I trust the admins completely. If I did not, I would have found somewhere else to play.
  20. While a proper server-client structure is a big improvement, it is far from hack-proof. Source is client-server, as well as all the Unreal engines, and I would hazard every CoD that is not MW2 and MW3. All of those games have their share of cheaters. I look very much forward to see how the alpha comes out, but notice the release now reads 'end of this year'. The mod has far from outlived itself, I guess. /me hops to the server in order to secure his vehicle.
  21. Password the server and set up a homepage. Then people can ask to be let in, and ushered out if they become troublesome.

    Weapon Class of Choice?

I go for the M14 if I have enough ammo, but most of the time I carry a 5.45mm AK. As I tend to avoid PvP, most of the actual shooting is done by .45 ACP, often at point blank ranges. I rarely pick up winchesters, Enfields or shotguns, and change to assault rifles as quck as possible. I once had an M249 AR. I wish to find another one day.

where are the Best places to find guns?

For the very start, just get a few cans of food and soda for the run. Go for red houses and barns. That will also help you learn to avoid zombies, something you will need. If you use an external map, or have found one in game, head for Berezino. Hit the deer stands in your path, but don't go out of your way for them yet. Berezino has two supermarkets, three deer stands, a hospital and a small military camp, but most PvP players head for the higher loot density in north western air field. Make sure to get some morphine from the hospital, and matches, knife and axe for hunting from the supermarket and barns in the countryside. These are at least as important as guns.

    I need help :(

About the gear: When you play alone, getting good gear is very time consuming compared to playing in a group. So berating OP for being happy about it is imo quite rude. I hope you get stiched up, and happy scavenging. (Play private myself, can't get to you)
  25. I am a newcomer to the server as well, but I like it. PvP'ers PvP against each other, but the rest of us are in relative peace and cautious coorperation. This morning I got eaten, and the other player on the server picked me up in his UAZ and helped me reclaim what I had lost, because that is the way things go here. Next time, it goes the other way around. Of course, some people are bandits, but most people can be trusted to be peaceful if agreed upon, and you don't get randomly hacked.
