The only map in the world "DayZ Minecraft" Scale 1:1
FreshmeatDK replied to HunteR26RuS's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That was then my two biggest time sinks combined. I am really impressed from what I see, and hope you will make it through the entire map. -
Poll: Actually playing DayZ
FreshmeatDK replied to OfficerRaymond's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I play in periods, then I leave for months. The basic game is more or less done once you secure a vehicle, and I am not into PvP. So I restart every now and then. -
Once the development milestone is passed, can we hope for a review and go for Razor? He has had a bunch of features sitting for almost a month now, some of which really could improve the gameplay.

I just did the worst thing you can do to someone..
FreshmeatDK replied to pr0phe7's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I fail to see how the guy deserved not being able to play Orgins public hive until his char dies from exhaustion. I do not know how long it takes swimming, but hopefully he just sets a random course and put something heavy on w while reading a book. -
Melee Weapon Quick Switch Help/Advice
FreshmeatDK replied to r4z0r49's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I like the first one the because I don't like instaswitch. The fact that you have to stand still while doing it is maybe a bit annoying, but then again getting a weapon out while on the run might not be the easiest thing to do. Just to be absolutely certain: This means that the rifle no longer takes up space in the backpack, right? That one bothered me far more than the lack of quick action. -
The tractor creates a lot of noise, and an ATV or motorcycle is rather small. Might even have been a bicycle, it goes upwards of 20 kph. If it was a hacker, one should think that he would have included an aimbot.

Definitely yes. I avoid fights at all costs because I tend to die, so on the rare occasions that I get into a firefight instead of just getting mowed down are kickers beyond belief. There is so much to loose when you have spent days scrounging gear.

VANILLA DayZ - Brains of Britain
FreshmeatDK replied to beatSTV's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
First of all, nice server. I have a couple of questions though: - Does vehicles despawn if left alone for to long? - How are the rules on tents despawning? IIRC, the standard despawn is despawn if owner is dead and tent not interacted with for seven days. Does that hold on UK#2? - Is the empty land outside map off limits for camps? The reason I ask is that I would like to gauge my chances of scoring a vehicle and setting up a camp. If you can park vehicles in the wasteland forever, I figure they are basically gone. -
Changes are being reviewed by Matt, so I guess next week.

It is changelog for things that is to come, and is already coded. Might still change as a result of tester feedback.

Berezino: The Best City in all of Chernarus?
FreshmeatDK replied to TheRaptorFence's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I used to be there a lot, but to many others caught up on the idea. Now it is no different than Chernogorsk. -
Does DayZ's player killing simulate real life authenticly?
FreshmeatDK replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In a study of letters from WWI, a lot of soldiers wrote that they enjoyed the killing when they where in the trenches, and IIRC it caused them to feel bad when they returned to a normal life.As good a source as I can get, scoll down to 'joyful slaughter' So Ozelot does have a point, but he extrapolates it far beyond what it can support. I think WBK has some very good points about some form of tribalism. I think it fits nicely with the human history of starting in small units and then forming larger units. Also, given countries like Somalia, and to some extend Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, people tend to band up with people they have some bond to and not fighting those, while fighting anyone outside their group. In a lot of languages, the word for the tribe is 'human', with everybody else being not 'human' and thus fair game. I cannot find sources for above point without a trip to the library, which is not going to happen a quarter to midnight. Further, it seems that altruism is part of our biological makeup. An an article on evolution and ethics, Michael Ruse points out that the humans that survived and had progeny are the ones that had inclination to cooperate. (Michael Ruse: 'The significance of evolution' in 'A companion to ethics' ed. Peter Singer, Blackwell 1993, pg 500-511). So if we do not see another as a threat, we will probably see them as a possible candidate to join our tribe. This might be overruled in a situation where resources are scarce, and a person is a threat merely by claiming food that the tribe needs. This does not mean that people kill each other on sight. Engaging in combat always carry a risk, and most people will need a serious incitement to take that risk. Even somebody on their own might survive simply by the risk that it is a scout, but will probably be robbed or killed once his loneliness is discovered. But again, given the tendency of people to band together, loners will be rare after the initial chaos. Specifically, I do not think that people will kill one another without reason, which is very much what a lot of KoS in DayZ is about. -
Anybody else learning to read russian?
FreshmeatDK replied to Dchil's topic in New Player Discussion
I know the greek and latin alphabets, so it took relatively few extra characters learned plus some solid guessing to read a road sign. Comes handy. -
On a private hive (Wireworld, in UK), I have experienced zombies doing their death animations twice every time I killed one of them.

Anyone noticed zeds 'camping' loot spawns?
FreshmeatDK replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it adds to the suspension. I have nearly walked into a crawler in a dark corner on a couple of occasions. However, they are bugged, and I have stolen loot from under their noses without them noticing. -
So zombies are just a nuisance again in 1.7.7.1
FreshmeatDK replied to kumando's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As Razor stated, a bug crept in that prevent infections. They are working on it. -
RIP GB Wireworld Vanilla DayZ Server - It was a lot of fun!
FreshmeatDK replied to wireworld's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Got a box from a house in Mogilevka. -
Yesterday, I chanced upon an M1014 with ammo. It was the first firearm I saw in 1.7.7. However, after giving it a long and loving look, I walked away. Why? Well, I don't do banditry, and even if I bring a gun to a firefight my lack of skill tends to get me killed anyway. So the actual gains of a long gun are debatable. And if I pick up a gun, I no longer have my melee weapon at the ready, and when a zombie spots you it is absolutely paramount to take it out without raising too much noise. I have hacked dozens of zombies with my axe and machete when I sneaked (gr?) through villages, with other zombies being a few meters away. Even though I have found a handgun, I dare not shoot it due to the risk of attracting a horde. The server I play clears out backpacks on logging due to ammo bugging, so I cannot use that for storage, and tents are a promise in the horizon. So, no long guns for me until you can have both a long gun and a melee weapon. What are your thoughts on this? Do you carry long guns or melee weapons?
-
So are we, nice and fast job there.

I just picked up a box of antibiotics in a house in a village, together with a ghillie and two MRE's. Cities are just not worth it, I roam the countryside with its forests and hills to get rid of the zombies.

FreshmeatDK replied to wireworld's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Will the new update prevent the ammo glitch? As a lone player, not having a backpack for permanent storage make things awfully hard, as I have yet to find a tent. But the server runs nice and stable, and whitelisting is a godsend. -
I have lost quite a lot of zombies in the new patch. You need to abort immediatly if you raise aggro and head for the woods and steep slopes. Yes, it might take more than a quarter of an hour, but it is doable. Once you got a melee weapon the game changes completely, just get them on a stair and you can kill them by the truckload, filling your precious supplies of beans and coke. The important thing is risk assesment. When I crawl towards a target, I _abort_ if I consider the number of zombies to great, because they will eventually spot you. And once you are on the run, you either spend a long time running or risk infection from melee. I agree the zombies are buggy as hell. This is part of what makes them dangerous, and I would rather have zombies dangerous and buggy than weak and buggy. The new distribution of loot and the increased zombie difficulty is a severe hindrance to PvP. The hot spots are insanely difficult now, so players will soon distribute themselves over the entire map just to survive. So PvP will probably soon be more opportunistic banditry instead of premediated fights. While this may sound snobbish, I honestly think that Wasteland offers far better opportunities for PvP playstyle and dedicated PvP players ought to try it out. Both mods are great, but there is no point in both mods catering to the same audience. So quick tips: -Slow down. A DayZ session will take at least an hour, more if complications arise. -Crawl when you approach loot sites. -Check for other players. If hostiles are nearby, looting is impossible. -Abort if the number of zombies are so great that you cannot steer clear of them. -Rather a can of beans in Tulga than getting chased out of Berezino. Loot has increased tremendously in the villages. -Do not go into Cherno, Elektro or Stary unless you are a group. While I have not tried, I guess that one guy covering with an automatic while another guy loots could work out. -Antibiotics are a lie. If you face zombies, you are gambling with your life. -Melee is best conducted from the top of a stair. -Do not shoot unless you absolutely have to. And if you have to, kite the aggroed zombies out of hearing range of other zombies first.

VanillaZ.org - NEW SERVER!!! [VETERAN][GMT-4]

Server just fell out :( -
Remove attack helis entirely, or put AMRs back in the game.
FreshmeatDK replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I dislike choppers in general, due to the ability to spot tents when they go high. -
"Love life" during the apocalypse
FreshmeatDK replied to IcyZ's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Statistically speaking, whenever males or females spend a significant amount of time together, no matter how screwed up the situation is, pregnancies occur. So I guess that relationships would evolve in an apocalypse as well. Speaking from a evolutionary standpoint, it would be madness not to spread ones genes as fast as possible, given the initial onslaught is over with.
