Experimental Branch: 0.45 Discussion
AnarchyBrownies replied to SmashT's topic in PC Experimental Updates
Delaying their work? Well that seems like a pretty big assumption. You're saying they're behind because they're just putting off the work like they'll do it some other day? The DayZ development team has struggled with deadlines since the mod and it's not because they are delaying doing the work. My impression is it's because they're struggling to accomplish what they want with this engine. It's a battle to get certain things to happen. The idea of the standalone was to take the engine more into their control but that certainly doesn't mean suddenly everything will change in a few months. They have to dismantle and rebuild certain parts and they hit snags along the way. That's just how it is. If you don't like it, leave. Delayed releases for patches is not new for this game (mod included), get over it. The first problem most people usually have is believing in road maps. I took the road map more as an idea of what they're going to do with the game, not WHEN. There are a lot of people on this board whose lives would be a lot happier if they did the same. I think the direction the team is heading in is great, I think they've developed a clear vision, and I don't care if they end up there 2 years from now. I can't think of a time the developers actually failed on something they said they were going to do, they've just failed on deadlines... and I've never thought it was because they just wanted to sit in the office and twiddle their thumbs instead of work. -
This solution seems utopian. Zombies behave better AND performance is increased!? More, better zombies. That's extremely exciting. In one patch we may suddenly have ourselves a zombie game.

I think I may have missed a discussion about how that new studio is doing with zombies. Can someone post a link? I knew they had a group of people tackling it, but was there a specific reddit discussion where Rocket gave updates on that and explained a general direction zombies were heading in? -

Don't know how you can have over 1000 posts on the forums can say so many things that aren't factual and be so critical when you clearly haven't been keeping up with any information. -

I can't believe this discussion never made it off the topic of pigs. I keep coming back hoping for more. -
Hello! I saw a couple related threads but it seemed like lot of them were either someone's personal thread or were quite outdated so I thought I'd start a new one. I'm trying to design a simple logo with a company name on photoshop but I'm completely new to the program. I've tried some tutorials and they've been all right but my main issue is that I'm designing a banner for an ebay store. The dimensions are limited to 310 x 90 and pretty much every tutorial wants you to start out with a large canvas. What ends up happening is the smaller text and smaller overall picture size doesn't show off the graphics and detail very well. The hundreds of tutorials I've looked through are meant for a large canvas. Is there anyone with any particular ideas regarding how to make a nice banner (again, just the company name) in a smaller space? Extreme detail seems pointless in 310 x 90. If you don't have any ideas yourself but could point me to a tutorial that would be great too! Thanks!

Kk thanks guys! It looks like my best bet is to do a bigger canvas with the same aspect ratio and then reduce it later after everything is done. I'll also take e47's advice and take the tutorials as good ways to learn a lot of the finer details of the skill. I was just going after exact replications of what they were doing and it wasn't working with the canvas size I was using. I can still make some nice looking texts though without them being exactly the same.

This also sounds important, but I'm not too knowledgeable on the details of programming and optimization and all that. What are the consequences of this? Essentially, what does it MEAN for the players? EDIT: Will it be a consequence of "disconnecting the renderer directly from the simulation" and potentially changing or completely replacing it? Also, this sounds like the sort of thing that proves why it will be better than any mod. Is this considered a fundamental change to the engine? It sounds like it. -
If it's bad (I haven't seen it yet) then you want to be right about this! Hopefully everyone agrees.

I think the first mistake for anyone is trusting any roadmap no matter who gives it. Any amount of issues can come up at any time that delay certain promised aspects of the game. And if you think the development team is incompetent then don't play the game, abandon it, play something else for a while until you approve of what they have to show. The endless amount of whining on these forums is useless, often times nonsensical, and it's unconstructive. People have been making the same complaints about the incompetence (broken promises, delayed releases) about this development team for well over a year (even back into the mod, remember artifacting?). If people bought the game with these same complaints already in place then it's their problem for ignoring other people's warnings. There are no excuses for the whining now. It's overdone. I don't mind the pace of development at all. I don't think the team is holding out on us. And if they felt like they were going too slowly or not producing quality results then they'd make the staff changes necessary to improve. I think improving mouse control and the network messaging is great. These are huge. As is physics. Finally getting that into the game is awesome and we'll obviously see the performance improve throughout the next little while. I think binoculars themselves are a big addition as far as gameplay goes. People are just looking for reasons to complain and seeing the same things written over and over and over and over again with the same incorrect information backing these opinions is just tiring.

People are in here talking about domesticated pigs when this optimization section is quite possibly the biggest news we've gotten since the release. This. Would. Be. Huge. -
Oh good, so you're leaving this game then? Thank god! Phew I thought we'd have to endure opinions like this for prolonged periods but luckily you have zero faith in the development team. Bye bye, it was nice having you here. Hope one day you finally find someone who cares! On topic: I'm away from my computer so no DayZ updaaaaaaate :(. I loved the new mouse controls when I tried them on experimental though. They'll take some getting used to but I felt like some clunkiness was taken out of the game. Also, did anyone post the devblog? - http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/post/83623167155/experimental-branch-saw-many-changes-in-0-44 I feel like there's some HUGE news in there. Optimization may be rolled out in the next few months to improve FPS (specifically in cities)!!!! EDIT: Ma bad, I see the development blog section of the forums now. I'm an idiot, you'd think this is my first time here.

Your inability to spell or punctuate properly makes it difficult for me to take you seriously. That and the fact that you're making the common mistake of mixing up different areas of development to push the idea that things like guns are being worked on instead of those core features/problems, which hasn't been true since the first moron started saying it months and months ago. -
Waiting for host / Session Lost / Lag and Desync since last patch
AnarchyBrownies replied to icetneo's topic in Troubleshooting
That doesn't sound like the same thing. But my friend seems to get huge ping and desync issues and we're having trouble identifying if it's a DayZ problem or internet problem. Do you guys get massive ping as well or just the desync? Or do high ping and desync always happen together? -

Hilarious that someone would actually have the nerve to say that given the "I understand" button they have to press for that ever so relevant message everyone gets every time the game starts up. -

Could care less what happens at PAX. Almost 2 million people have bought the game and all the new players that come will be from word of mouth (us) and youtubers who play the game more and more as it develops. I'd imagine it would be hard to show DayZ in any way in these demos. Would it be fair to show a geared character running around fighting? People new to the game would be pissed to get on and barely even be able to make it city to city and wondering why the fuck all they get to do is run through forests and fields. -

Since the early days of the mod, DayZ has ALWAYS been a running/walking simulator. EDIT: And I say that as a positive thing. -

Yeah, I don't think a triple A company has ever pushed out a shitty game or let people down with unoriginal, disappointing games. Thank god they're coming in.
