I started to experience this also! Exact same thing, it wasn't until after the first patch was released.

Ok i get it.. its alpha.. but this is worse than the mod.
AnarchyBrownies replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't compare this to WarZ at all. WarZ was a scam from the start, based on someone looking to capitalize on someone else's good idea. The promises were just made to make money. DayZ has never been like that. DayZ was the original idea and Dean has followed through on developing it as a standalone. There was a hell of a lot of work done over the last year to get the architecture ready and rather than try to sell people on what the game could be, they did the exact opposite. They said (paraphrasing the last year of messages): "We think it's going to be very good, but the alpha is just about getting the bare bones game to run in a stable way. Do not buy it if you're expecting a full DayZ experience." The message has been DO NOT BUY THE GAME. It has never been "buy the game and we promise we'll add things", or "buy the game because this feature is in there" (when it's not). I mean look at this: Here's Rocket's big release day and he's telling people not to buy the game and to wait for the critique to come in first. That's incredibly admirable and goes against everything you're trying to claim about it being about the money and false promises. If that was the only time he had said that then maybe you'd have more of a point, but this is something he's said since the start. -

Good post! Solid contribution! I feel sad that you won't be returning because you hate the game. Everyone will miss your valuable insights terribly. I will just say that most of the time over the last year has been spent on the new architecture with the thought in mind that once they have a solid foundation they will be able to add a lot of features quickly and easily. The reason for so many warnings being given about paying for the game now was that a lot of the improvements were "under the hood." Now, at this point you are perhaps skeptical about that, or, like you said, think they should have held off. But I think they're pretty confident moving forward, I'm certainly looking forward to how this develops, and I hope in a few months you can say the same. You could always just forget about it and come back to it in a few months. It's unfortunate that you already paid for it but if it ends up being a decent game then at least you got it cheaper. I think in the end you'll be satisfied, even if you don't feel that way now. Hope so anyways! -
Hows performance on an i7 and GTX 770?
AnarchyBrownies replied to WhiteZero's topic in General Discussion
i7-3770 and GTX 680. Both similar enough I think! Anywhere around 60fps when not in the big cities. Big cities go down to about 30 but the other day I was getting some weird stuttering I had never seen before. It went away eventually. It's difficult to say where you'll be at as far as performance goes. They haven't really gotten down to optimization yet so it's a tough question this early on. For those components you have nothing to worry about as far as being able to run the game (obviously), and you're not going to be getting any crazy awesome performance because nobody is. -

When you say you posted about the ladder death glitch, do you mean you reported it in the tracker? -

AnarchyBrownies replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
I think it was wrong to get the game assuming it would be better than the mod. It is very much bare bones, as you acknowledge, so no one should have expected a better experience, especially when zombies have barely been implemented. All the warnings screamed that it wouldn't live up to people's expectations if they were thinking it was going to be some fantastic upgrade. I already like it quite a bit and I can't wait to see what happens when they start implementing all the features they want (especially increased zombie count/better zombie activity!), So it's of no significance to say the mod is better. The point wasn't to release a better alpha than the mod, the point was to release an alpha to test the foundation of the game so that game defining features could be built on to it. You sound like a prime candidate for someone who should have listened to the warnings for not getting the game. I don't mean that in an insulting way at all but your expectations sound way out of line with the reality we were told DayZ was going to be and it seems like you were already disappointed with the cost to begin with. I'm not sure what enticed you to get it. Just realized you said "a year and a half in development" as well. Which is completely false. A year at most for the standalone. You seem to want to count from when the mod was released. As far as development goes, the mod is a COMPLETELY different project. -
Haha I find the tin can hurdle a strange one. It's nice that they've already expanded what objects you can use to open them because I just can't picture myself moments from dying of starvation staring at a tin can thinking, "If only I had a can opener."

AnarchyBrownies replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Well I had a long reply all ready but then realized it wasn't worth the effort for someone who was being critical without having any information on development. I mean someone who leads with "They already had a game engine," definitely looks like a troll. Why would I give a detailed response and put in all that effort for someone who's just trying to create hostility? If they're legit and want a proper response then they can ask for one. -
A list of small complaints/issues.
AnarchyBrownies replied to Etherimp's topic in General Discussion
I think the issue is there's this middle ground where things aren't "bugs" but people think certain features just need a tweak. Does the feedback trackers cover that as well? Actually just looking over the Bug Reports thread it looks like you can use that tracker for suggestions. Hmmmm. Someone else is going to have to weigh in on this one. -

AnarchyBrownies replied to Etherimp's topic in General Discussion
Don't bother getting defensive, I think you made a reasonable post! Apart from those discussion points I think you bring up a good point of where players can go to talk about all of these things. There needs to be like a Future Features section or something. It seems scattered at the moment. I guess a topic needs to be created for each idea in the General Discussion section.... but, as I said, that just seems really messy considering EVERYTHING seems to go in this section. -
He's talking about the distance from which they can be heard though. Can the placeholder sound not carry over a more realistic distance? Not sure how placeholders work exactly.
-
I feel like there are times where I've been right beside people and have heard nothing when they shoot. Haven't really tested it out or looked for the issue on the Feedback Tracker but if you can confirm it's an issue you should submit a bug report! I'd check it out myself as well, because I think you might be right, but I'm away from a computer capable of running the game :P If you haven't seen/heard of the bug report system, the website is here! There's also a thread about it at the top of the General Discussion forum if you want to know more about the process.

Can you Starve or die of dehydration?
AnarchyBrownies replied to Flame303's topic in General Discussion
No worries, have fun! Keep coming back with questions if you have them there are lots of people on here who will be quick to help! The game's at a pretty messy point so there are lots of weird quirks everyone is trying to figure out :) -

Yup! Once you go unconscious just hit ESC and then respawn. -
Weird Mouse movement DayZ standalone.
AnarchyBrownies replied to Nibiru (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
And for anyone having this issue go to the bug reporting page and you can get more info on it. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/login_page.php You don't need to submit another bug report because it's already well reported and it looks like it's fairly high priority at this point. -
This is a good point, now that you bring it up. I think maybe I found something on the ground level one time. Other than that (and it could have been an item a player dropped) I have never found anything up the ladders.

AnarchyBrownies replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Obviously you may disagree with this reasoning but luckily they're not forcing you to buy it. And, to the contrary, are advising you don't. This is a troll post. Too much bad information for it to be real. The other conclusion that could be drawn is that there is a reading comprehension issue, but the writing is passable so I'm going to settle with troll. -

Security Vulnerabilities fixed by Patch #2 and Character wipe
AnarchyBrownies replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Hate to backseat moderate and I promise never to do it again but this feels like an exceptional case. Get this guy out of here. Anyways, good call on the entire wipe. Look forward to seeing how security develops. I'm optimistic! -

What's the plan for the new loot system? Exactly how it is now but with more of certain things or are they going away from spawning everything at restart? -
Ok i get it.. its alpha.. but this is worse than the mod.
AnarchyBrownies replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I can't imagine they'll wait too long to add in even something preliminary to prevent hopping. Like you said, even a 5 minute delay could work wonders. Combat logging seems like an easy enough fix too. We'll see what happens in the next couple weeks. And I'm not sure how often they've made changes to zombies but basically right now I barely see them and I'm having difficulty with how their hits register (and mine for that matter). They're a write off for me at this point. I'm looking forward to hearing about their development. -

AnarchyBrownies replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
I think your post is closer to how people should be critical but it still has things in it that drive me nuts and there are obvious sarcastic remarks that would indicate complaining (calling it a mod for ex.). Talking about bad optimization, combat logging, and zombies are all things that have already been addressed and you just haven't paid attention. YOUR problem. There has been pretty much no optimization to make it run smoothly for players. Given that information, it's actually surprisingly smooth. They definitely have plans for combat logging and have talked about different ways of trying to manage it. I'm sure it won't take long to come out with a system for this, which is why it wouldn't be prioritized in my mind. You're a tester first right now. If someone combat logs it's unfortunate and breaks the playing experience, but if you consider yourself a tester first then it's hardly a blip in what you're doing. Zombies shouldn't even be brought up because there's nothing constructive or new to add when it's the primary thing players were warned about. They are being COMPLETELY overhauled, your opinion on them right now means ZERO. Mentioning them is so pointless and is just an excuse for someone to inflate their list of "problems." And I'll agree that the loot system needs work but I'll also say that it's nice that I'm actually at risk of dying of starvation/thirst now. It needs to be closer to what it is now than what it was in the mod. -

AnarchyBrownies replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
You don't complain about problems when in alpha. You either report those problems quietly or you can be constructively critical. Complaining is useless and involves the exact people Rocket told repeatedly not to buy the game. Those people can just stop playing from now until later next year and save themselves a lot of hissy fits. I don't think I have seen anyone get flamed for talking about bugs or talking constructively about problematic features. The people COMPLAINING about bugs and problematic features are rightfully getting flamed into the ground. And as an aside I think the mods are being generous with the amount of low quality whiny, moany threads they're leaving open.
