  1. Just for the sake of expanding my knowledge, is "toon" short for anything? I'm guessing it means spawn but where does that word come from? I've never heard it before.
  2. Duping and then combat logging... People are absolute scum. I absolutely refuse to combat log even in cases where I think the danger's over. I've been hiding for 10-20 minutes before and had to pee so badly in real life and still haven't logged out. I have to know the combat is over. If I think I've escaped, I run into the forest, hide in a bush, then I'll allow myself to log off (as long as I'm not shot at again :p ). I don't want to ruin the experience of the game for others! I find it exciting as well, even if I don't have the firepower to defend myself.
  3. I killed two guys the other day in self-defense. Does that help? You seem highly agitated! I hope you don't carry around this aggression in any form in real life!
  4. I was actually going to explain that too, that a lot of us in Balota Buddies kind of flip flopped day to day on how we all played. Depended on who you were playing with on a given day and what the general atmosphere was like at the time. It was more or less a tight knit community (until it totally wasn't?). But yeah, I just settled with the fact that it's old information :p Yes that is one death I'll never forget. Made me realize I had some serious target practice to do. A learning experience.
  5. Talking about my experience with Inception back in the mod :p Ancient history.
  6. Maybe you're helping wrong. Maybe you're making yourself TOO vulnerable with these people. That doesn't mean you have to change to killing everything on sight out of spite and petty acts of revenge. Isn't it more interesting to come up with your own strategies that keep you alive while interacting with others? People on these forums try to act like a real apocalypse would just be this violent kill everything that moves scenario, but what you'd really want is a good group of people. Each person you met you'd have to take very seriously and weigh their intentions and find different ways of handling them to establish trust. You wouldn't just kill everything because that is way more likely to guarantee your ultimate demise.
  7. In my experience he could also waste ANYONE he came across if he really wanted to. So all the more admirable of him.
  8. hahaha alright you have a very negative outlook. I'll have to respect the fact that you have many more hours than me but I've had some good experiences in my 50 hours. A lot of bad. I would say it's more weighted towards the bad (in that most of the time it's just KoS). But, again, I value not killing people the moment I see them for the sake of not turning the game into something I don't want it to be. It's worth the risk to me because I'm not barreling as fast as I can towards all the best loot, in which case every death would be devastating because my experience would be based on speed. I'm after all the infinite possibilities that DayZ has to offer.
  9. Well your post started with one thing and ended with another. Not sure how you want people to respond? I'm not aggressive at all. I manage to find weapons on servers with both high populations and low populations. Sometimes it takes longer and I think that's what your particular issue is. You're all about getting the gear as quickly as possible and see no value in any experiences that don't quickly lead you to the most powerful weapons available. Have fun with that limited style of play. I expect a long thread from you sometime in the near future about how boring "end game" is and how "easy it is to get there."

    Bandits Make DayZ

As people have said, it's the over-saturation. There's even been a huge difference since the first few weeks the mod came out. I took a break from beginning of January (first week or two) to now and it's changed quite a bit already. I'm becoming aware of people more because of gunshots than seeing them now. It's all over the map too, not in certain areas. Those people make the game but they can also break it, and I think in the end they will break it. Right now the game seems to be geared towards Arma players, which it shouldn't be at all. All of these KoS bandits just go grab all the military gear they can and just shoot up everything. I honestly wish that mentality would die. I hope sheer numbers of people from outside the Arma community start overcoming that but it may just be that new players are learning bad habits and the culture of shooting everyone and everything is just being created and reinforced. I think there should be a lot less military gear because it gives such an advantage to players (more slots <---I think, more protection, more firepower) and encourages military roleplay. Go play Arma for that. Seriously. The game NEEDS bandits, but it needs to encourage other play styles equally. Right now it favours aggression and ruins the unpredictability and diversity of the experience. More numerous and intelligent zombies will hopefully have an effect on this but the loot needs to be adjusted as well.

The pleasure of a dead bandit

Well this topic got derailed but I can bring it back. I got shot at at NW Airfield last night. Long story short, I killed two of them before the last one killed me. It felt good, knowing they thought they were pretty awesome before I fought back. While I was hiding I could hear them running around below me talking trash over direct chat. They were really young, probably 12-14, so they played with a little bit of that arrogant preteen attitude. I hope they enjoy the run back to NWAF :)

    Question About Walls!

I couldn't find this topic and when I googled it there was a lot of wishy washy discussion going on. No one seems quite certain so I wanted to ask the question here: Can you shoot through walls/floors? I ask because I was hiding here: I had to hide here because I was shot at running in the Northwest Airfield. So I took refuge here and I started hearing voices down below. Eventually one guy climbed the ladder and I waited until he had to round that bend on the upper level (the one I'm pretty much looking at in the picture). Once he rounded that bend I shot at him and killed him with a pistol right when he appeared at the window. I took his M4 then crouched behind the wall beside the doorway to this little room. I leaned and stared at that entrance down below and sure enough another guy eventually poked his head around the corner and I shot and killed him. Right after I killed him I went back into a prone position (perfectly straight, not angled like in the picture) and waited for a few seconds. All of a sudden my guy got lit up. I died fairly quickly but it looked like I was bleeding out of my upper body (left hand side) before I died. So can you get shot through walls by an M4? If so, it was a good kill! When I died right off the bat I thought it was a good kill. They had come one at a time and were just getting picked off, so it was a smarter plan for them to shoot through the walls where I was. But if you have to cheat to do that then that makes me a sad panda :( EDIT: This may have belonged in New Player discussion! Sorry about that! Hopefully mods move this if need be.

    Question About Walls!

Thanks for the answers! I think it's safe to conclude I was shot through the floor or wall. The shots were close so distance wouldn't have been a factor.

In-game sound needs to be re-worked

I was playing today for the first time in a while and I just want the random sounds to end, especially the random zombie sounds. I felt like they were really interrupting the experience of the game. Highly distracting. I can wait for BETTER sounds, but can't the current team fix the sounds that occur for no reason? Why would that require a sound team? While it's a problem related to sound, it seems more like a specific programming problem... if I'm explaining that properly :p

    Question About Walls!

If it exists in ARMA II, I'm guessing it applies to DayZ SA as well. Nice video Frosti, I got quite a laugh out of that. But it doesn't answer the question 100%. You can shoot through a wooden fence but what about the walls of the building I was in? I think you SHOULD be able to shoot through the building I was in. The walls seem kind of tinny.

    Upcoming Items/Weapons?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZTbamt5xkw I'm pretty much Alice. And as you can see in this video, Alice could have used a 203 to make her life much easier.

I Combat Logged :( Burn Me At The Stake, With Taters

If they plan on getting rid of something, it's probably wrong to use that something! It's over now though.

    OrLoK's Random Thread -

    One thread to find them...
  19. But things like that are coming. So what's the problem? Also, the things you're suggesting people do as they "run towards full gear" all suggest making the game easier. 40 minutes is nothing to get geared up. In my mind it should take hours and hours of playing time to get decent gear and getting "fully geared" should take much longer. High end loot should be SO scarce. DayZ has always been a "running simulator." I don't think it was ever supposed to be in your face type of action and progression. And I would argue whether there is any real "progression" in a sandbox game.

    Suicide rock near Kamyshovo

Spawn. *Tab*. Nothing. Where high rock?
  21. It's here, we've found it! The perfect post. Everything I want to say, but with the flawless execution of concise description and sarcasm!

What's with the random unusual noises?

No worries! And I had the same feeling before I knew about the bugs. After a while of reacting to them I was like okay someone is fucking with me.
  23. AnarchyBrownies

What's with the random unusual noises?

Confirmed bugs. They'll be dealt with. When looking into something like this, go here: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view_all_bug_page.php EDIT: And if you don't find a particular bug listed, be sure to send them a report! I should also add (for the sake of your discussion on the forums), the amount of times these sound effects have freaked me out is preeeetty high. I'll go into full on stealth mode when I hear a soda can, and panic mode when I hear a zombie that I think sneaked up on me.

    "It's an alpha."

Go on... How is a thread from someone saying they want vehicles of any use? It's an alpha still applies in that you can't expect all the features all at once, which you describe in your post. Who cares if you want vehicles? Why make a thread about it if it's already confirmed that they're coming? Again, if you wanted to talk about specifics regarding the development of cars in the game then that makes sense. But people come up with threads talking about these things ("Takes too long to get around") like they're not going to be dealt with. "It's an alpha, be patient," is completely applicable. Your example of tents is different because I don't know if tents have been confirmed or not, or whether they just plan to go to a full on base style and ignore tents. So if someone came along and said they want tents (or any unconfirmed feature) then you're right, "It's an alpha" doesn't apply. And while you can talk about bugs on the forums, there's a place to report them and follow how they're being dealt with. Coming here and complaining about a buggy game is another "who cares?" moment that rightfully generates plenty of "ALPHER" responses. The game's buggy, excellent observation, thank you for contributing this wonderful new thread that no one has made before. No. Alpha is not for "complaining." You don't need any bit of education in game development to understand that complaining is reactionary and not constructive. That's an issue with communication. Alpha is for gathering feedback that helps drive the production of a game. You can be negative and critical in a productive way that will generate discussion beyond "It's an alpha." I completely fault the whiners who come on here who bought the game without reading and understanding what they were getting into.

    "It's an alpha."

The issue is there are so many people saying, "I know it's alpha but..." and then go on to COMPLAIN about something that is explained by the fact that the game is in alpha. People don't know how to have a discussion and be constructive. They only seem to know how to complain about things. I don't see people getting flamed for casually bringing up bugs or asking if anyone else has experienced something. It's people whining and moaning about issues that go without saying. EDIT: And just to go along with an example you used, we don't need threads with people saying "WE NEED VEHICLES!!!" Obviously vehicles are coming, this has already been confirmed. Quit spamming the forums with useless posts about things that are on their way. BUT if you want to talk about what kind of vehicles there should be for example, or how many, or have discussions along those lines then by all means. "The game needs vehicles" is stupid and pointless.
