There are lots of good people over there willing to help! If you're also finding your initial experience with the game frustrating, it means you're having a normal first experience :). They definitely don't seem to be trying to push that mid 20 mark yet. I wonder if it will jump from that mark right to their 50 goal or whether they'll gradually creep up to it. They said it scales well so maybe one day they'll have the all-singing, all-dancing test out of the blue.

Your tone for most of the first couple posts seems to be more about you telling people they are inferior PC gamers who couldn't possibly understand how important this is to the experienced skilled players like yourself. I think if anything would ever actually get under the skin of the people developing the game, it's the idea thrown around by crazy people that nothing in the game has really changed. That's definitely worth a strangle.

People don't want to read/listen, they just want to say and feel. 95% of the time if someone doesn't have 50+ posts they're either uninformed or whining (usually both). In the case that I addressed, mmmsoad asked for an explanation rather than become standoffish about my non-informative reply. Unfortunately most of the time people just want to tell you how bad the standalone is going to suck and how upset they are that they've been waiting for a year for an unfulfilled promise. Can't count the amount of times I've let myself collapse into argument with these people. I stopped participating in this area of the forums for a solid 3-4 months at one point because of it.

That misconception has been covered so many times in the last year that at this point "No" is the simplest response. But if you ask for clarification, you'll get it. And Fluxley and Rossums gave good responses when you asked. Most people who come in here with that misconception just want to complain like they've been betrayed personally by Rocket for not giving them the standalone last December. So, again, 'no' is the easiest way of telling someone they're wrong without really having to get into it for the millionth time.

I don't know, that sounds like a lot. I don't think games eat too much data at all.

But that's their problem, not anyone else's. No one will be forcing anyone to buy the game and everyone's been given plenty of warning of how buggy the alpha will be. We're lucky to have early access to the game, but the consequence of that is we're playing something incomplete- FAR from completion- and expectations should be in line with that.

These types of streams should happen more. Pretty cool to sit back and watch a loosely put together demonstration. If there's a list of things to cover in a demonstration like that then you restrict the amount of chance occurrences that happen that might be worth talking about.

I'm telling you what they've told us as far as their benchmark performance targets. You're assuming that what you're seeing on screen is a catastrophic problem that will take months to fix. I don't think they feel that way at all. It's not the impression I get anyways. Their tone is about touching up these issues and then making sure it works for 50+ people.

No it looks great for an alpha, actually! And it can handle that many. He just talked about the sliding players and it wasn't something he was concerned about, it's just a player getting stuck in one part of an animation (I think that was the reason he gave). He's already said they're getting great server performance with 15+ people (I think into the 20s). ^They're well beyond their minimum server performance they're looking for with that many.

There is one reason in that list that is an actual reason why the game hasn't been released yet. The rest don't matter.

So now you're a fanboy if you insult someone who comes on here and says they hope the game fails? Ooooookay then. You've completely disregarded the restructuring of the whole engine in your post by the way. My understanding is this has taken up the bulk of the work- the foundational code. Lots of people have legitimate questions and concerns about the game, others come in here angry and hostile. It shouldn't be surprising that the second group is met with hostility in return, regardless of whether or not that response is the right one to make. If someone doesn't like the game or think it has no chance to succeed, then they should leave. What are they doing on the forums of a game they think sucks? If you have constructive points to make then make them and generate some discussion.

Often the mentality of complaining and being negative is not an inherent personality defect, but the result of, as you said, some other unhappiness. Sometimes it's also just a lack of perspective which is why kids get so out of control with their emotions about little things. My guess is our current negative nancy is young, mostly due to his/her inability to give any sort of constructive reason for their anger. It's going to be a shit show when the alpha is released. The development team is going to need a lot of feedback and they're going to have to sift through pages and pages of whining and indiscriminate anger.
