I believe I clarified at the beginning of my post that you hoped DayZ could develop into your dream game. And don't act like my condescending tone came out of nowhere. I'll gladly take on a condescending tone if someone comes in here complaining, yet they admit to being willfully ignorant about what they are complaining about. That's a ridiculous way to be about anything. Contrary to what you believe this board is full of great people and it's a very friendly and helpful community. I don't think it's too much to ask that people hold their judgments and complaints until they are informed. You don't have to "live and breathe this shit" to know that no release date has been given. If you feel there has been one given, you could first clarify before being critical. No one here will give you a hard time simply for not knowing something and asking. And I think you should bear in mind that this game will be an Alpha release, so it's going to be full of issues that need tweaking. You're lucky enough to be able to be a part of shaping the game to how you think it should be. So before you start losing faith in the pre-released alpha version, you could await the alpha and eagerly provide constructive feedback to help mold the game into its final identity.

Exactly! All that sort of thing can be adjusted and even taken out of the game if necessary. That's why constructive feedback will be important when the Alpha is released to the public :)

The self-entitlement is strong with this one. You led yourself to believe that you would be playing this game by now because absolutely no one who would officially be able to set a release date has said you would be playing it by now. You're hoping DayZ can be your dream game, yet you can't devote 40 minutes (or much less) a couple times a month to informing yourself about it. Then you come here fuming about WRONG information. Then you acknowledge that you don't really pay that much attention to the information coming out now. Alright. My first piece of advice to you is a piece of life advice: If you're going to be critical and emotional about something, first acknowledge how much you actually know about it and consider taking a more neutral approach. My second piece of advice: <--- Start watching that or a channel like it since your time is too precious for informing yourself about your dream game. My math tells me that if all the videos are around that length you'll only have to devote 16 minutes a month to paying attention to DayZ news.

    Cant understand KOS moaners :s

Yeah but what does that have to do with some unarmed guy being shot by someone with an AS50 camping a big city?? I'm not really complaining, though. KOS is an important part of the game I just wish it was less unanimous that it's the only way to play. I do take issue with arguments in favour of it based on ideas like "itz apawcalipse peeple kill evry1" EDIT: @TheDesigner yeah I'm whitelisted on Balota Buddies and there is a lot of KOS but it's (usually) of a different nature. Someone killed me on sight last night and they came onto my teamspeak channel and were like "Holy shit you scared the hell out of us." I guess I wandered in front of them heading East-West while they were going North-South and all of a sudden I was right there. It was a good kill and it was like I was all of a sudden being ambushed so it was exciting. I get KOS like once a day but then I'll play with the people who killed me all night the next day. It's more of a nice community feel.
  7. It's a good question but I think they'll just use the term completely arbitrarily. One day they'll just be like "Alright, we're going into Beta." Then again, that's assuming your criteria for Alpha and Beta are correct. I don't know if there are very technical definitions of when something is Alpha or Beta.

    Cant understand KOS moaners :s

I can't understand why players have this preconceived notion that complete strangers wouldn't be friendly during an apocalyptic event. Because, you know, humans have a long history of struggling to survive completely independently.

    How good are YOU?

First of all, I'm not that great. I'm a bad shooter. I can gear up pretty well but I mostly just panic when I get shot at. I'm fine at the game in general, I just can't PvP. I wanted to tell a story, however. I got shot at so I went into a shed and laid down, looking out the door to a hill. I saw someone come onto the screen and before I can even react I was dead. It turned out it was Inception. It was one of my top two deaths as it was quite impressive. Very fast, very painless. I hadn't even finished my thought "Ok now just take aim aaaaaand..." before I had to disconnect and respawn.
  10. I think he's calm. I think "discriminating" was another word he picked because he had trouble finding the right one. He's saying that he thinks people would be more patient and understanding if they had more of an idea of what's going on. Not that they're being completely unreasonable. To this I'd say that the development team has been quite open about what they're working on and what they're planning on working on. There's no reason they need to update us every day on what they're doing. Just have some confidence in them, be patient, and remember that there is nothing requiring them to tell anybody anything and they don't mind if some people are mad enough about that to not play the game.

    Cant understand KOS moaners :s

I'm going to echo what a few people have talked about on here. My frustration with KOS is never with the death. I die like once a day. It's more that KOS is so bad (I'm sure it's worse on some servers than others) that it takes a lot of diversity of experience out of the game. In a sandbox type game that diversity is important. It's safe to assume that when you see someone they will kill you if you interact with them. The game has come to the point where seeing someone and thinking "what's going to happen?" is just not practical. Which is unfortunate. I get why it happens though. KOS the easiest thing to do because it doesn't require thinking. Point and shoot, go about your day. I think the majority of people think like this (don't think much) in real life and when it comes to video games the mentality is driven by the last decade's proliferation of first person shooters. It's so mindless so I think what happens is when people expect a more sophisticated or at least new experience in DayZ, they're let down by the fact that it ends up being like every other first person shooter. That's my take!

    DayZ Free? . . . .

I have no idea why Steak and Taters hasn't been given at least a suspension yet. The dude is never to the point, never straight forward, and never helpful.

Yeah I can see how people would be confused initially. My first thought when he was saying the whole "week timeframe" thing was that it would be within the week. But then he elaborated and I was like oooooh they have a "release week". Then if you actually read the thread where it's clarified what he means there are no excuses. After following the standalone development for this long I have concluded I could never be a game developer. I couldn't handle the general public misquoting and misunderstanding me constantly. LUCKILY I've never had the intention of doing so. So I can leave that to the patient and talented individuals :)

I guess I'm really naive, but I can't believe how many times this has had to be clarified already. I don't know if it's a language barrier or people just don't listen. Either way it has to stop.

I thought Rocket has said many times that you will be able to pull stations from the internet. Or did I misunderstand him? I'll have to find him saying it somewhere but I'm pretty sure he's said it a lot.

Let's just clarify something though. If you show people something like better zombie pathfinding and then that system is completely horrible and is a lot like the mod, that isn't an alpha problem. I'm not saying that is the case, I'm saying if on release day it's like that. If you have a pathing system that is much better (like the March video I posted) and there are still glitches where zombies get lost or caught in weird places, that's an alpha problem. Although I definitely see your point on zombies potentially being the least of our problems, I think in a zombie game this should be one of the first content issues you deal with. The SA team clearly feels as though the game is structurally sound enough to implement tons of new items and a crafting system and new animations so to say we shouldn't care about content because there could be some horrible game-breaking glitches is kind of unjustified.

Yeah, overall I'm not too worried. Really my post was about why it looks as though the pathfinding has taken a step BACK. It could be that it hasn't and it just looks to me as though it has, but I've seen multiple complaints about the pathfinding and I think so far I've seen nothing that looks like what was shown in the March video. The sequencing and all that I'm not really concerned about but if that goes on top of more severe problems then I think there will be reason to start worrying (in a couple/few weeks, as you said). EDIT: @infi Yeah I know what you're saying, I'm just talking about what they demonstrated the zombies were capable of in the March video vs. what they are actually doing now. According to the pathfinding video the potential seems quite awesome, but since then it has somehow appeared to regress. So I'm not talking about my expectations, just what they've previously demonstrated. There could be a very good reason why the pathfinding seems worse! It could be that it changes slightly once you introduce attacks, I'm not sure. But a little clarification on the regression would be nice.

Is it just me or does the zombie pathfinding seem to have taken a step back? Or maybe its development just completely stopped after they changed it back in March. Take a look at this video briefly: http://youtu.be/W8xcv51C2ug?t=18m34s Now watch this: http://youtu.be/AKwMVPETfs0?t=16m42s In the second video the zombie has this ridiculous arching pattern as it comes in for the attack. It doesn't find a direct line like it should, and as the first video suggests it would. What's even more weird is Rocket specifically says in the first video that zombies don't have to be outrageously fast like they used to because they just follow you better. Which I think is the right way to go. But in the E3 and Rezzed videos they are very fast and the pathfinding doesn't seem too great. Also, while the timing of zombie attack animations and damage was out of sync, it also looks like the zombies miss a lot in general. I hope that the zombie problems get addressed soon. I'm guessing release in the next couple weeks and I hope the focus until then is on optimizing the zombies because while I'm quite impressed with the game, I believe a zombie game should have high quality, threatening zombies. And the threat should come from their intended danger, not the danger of glitchy creatures. I would be happy with minimal items and features and a perfect zombie system. Get on it!

    ....Rollocks.

I recommend searching for him in cities. EDIT: If you go to the exact middle of the Northwest Airfield there's a trap door that leads to Narnia. You must shoot in the air 30 times for it to appear. He probably went there.

Buddies' Invitation (Help Us Save the World!)

It wasn't an option for me to start playing DayZ again because of all the hacking on public servers. Luckily, a friend told me about Balota Buddies. I got whitelisted and I finally can play DayZ with confidence that I'm not going to be killed by a hacker! So Balota Buddies saved my DayZ mod experience and I've already met a ton of cool people! I'm happy to get on here and encourage others to join! Fantastic community, thanks guys :)

    Reason behind your username?

I tried to make a batch of brownies with my friend. We failed miserably and whenever people asked how it went wrong we just told them they were anarchy brownies. Anarchy brownies don't conform to things like the shape of the baking pan, the reaction of the ingredients, or anything the recipe says they will do. That wouldn't be anarchy.

Requesting information about the status of the mod.

I think it should be emphasized for your sake that public servers are still crawling with hackers. If you're going to get the mod you should probably get whitelisted on a private server unless you just want to set yourself up for disappointment and frustration and possibly murder-suicide. Wouldn't recommend the last one. There are help lines if your emotions ever feel out of control... just pick up the phone.

    E3 and our attendance

Against my better judgment that this comment deserves absolutely no attention... There has been one delay that I know about and it's because they decided not to just revamp the mod, but start from scratch. So on that point you're wrong. You being disappointed by it is something no one can control but my guess is it's because you had certain expectations. So despite every single time Rocket opens his mouth he says "Don't expect too much in a PRE-alpha build" or even in a released alpha build, you are still disappointed. That seems to be very much your problem. Hell, based on what Rocket has said I wouldn't be surprised if they came to E3 with Pong presented as the Standalone. Disappointed* Saw* not seen. Have a good night.
