  1. I think the expanded testing is just to streamline the process of picking what's staying and what's going for alpha release. Rocket said they're taking out incomplete broken stuff and just leaving things they think work well enough for an alpha. They seem to have their server performance and have confirmed this. Without getting overly optimistic I think we're basically at release, just have to do a little clean up but there doesn't seem to be anything major holding them back anymore.

  3. That's an interesting discussion. I agree to the extent that I don't care about streamers at all. But as far as favourites go why can't they pick whoever they want? It's their game, they should use whoever they want to test, whether it's friends/neighbours/family/staff/contributing community members. As long as they feel the crowd they have can contribute to testing then it doesn't affect the rest of us. We don't deserve to be testing the pre-alpha by virtue of being alive and being on the DayZ forums or on reddit. It just seems like extreme jealousy to me if people feel "left out" in some way. As far as the community being pre-disposed to popular ideas I also agree. I don't know, however, if having streamers giving people their interpretations shortly before release is really going to change things much. Either be pre-disposed to them now or be exposed to them when it's released, which feels like quite soon. In the long run does it really make a difference?
  4. I'm still confused about what happened today then. Wasn't the streamers testing thing referring to only allowing a limited amount of people (streamers, staff, other special selections) to test the ALPHA. Based on what I've been trying to understand, this was letting streamers in to expand pre-release testing. Which, to me, is different. SO LOST.
  5. So they just want more people for testing? Why would anyone care? And do you mean Rocket will be posting another update at some point today?
  6. I hate to sound lazy but can someone briefly recap what the hell happened today? I'm confused by where there was an issue and why people were upset and how this affects testing? It sounds like they just wanted to allow streamers to test and that was apparently a significant issue?

Another Quick Update 5 December 2013

I can imagine! Thanks for the reply. Excited for alpha release and being able to reward the team with money.

I guess if they ignore this part you're right:

Another Quick Update 5 December 2013

Do you guys already have an idea of how extensive the "must be fixed" list is? Possibly a dangerous question in case it gives people the wrong idea on release windows but I'm more or less just after an idea of how big the "must fix" problems are.
  10. Oh no, how are you supposed to see it on Early Access then!?

Quick update for 4 December 2013

A zombie at rest is not a happy zombie. That's your problem right there.* Good to hear things are going well still! Happy to hear you guys are making some big strides. I feel a little bad that everybody over there seems to be working non-stop... only because I can't envision when people are going to get a break if the alpha is released soon. Who knows what catastrophic problems that will bring. Look forward to the release tomorrow. *

    Yet another PC building thread

I had the same issue when I tried recording with my old computer. DDR 2 RAM, Core 2 duo processor. Just so you know, it's either Dxtory or Fraps that brings your FPS down to a maximum of 30 I think it is. So you should see a drop for one of those. Can't remember which.

Yeah I think you should be fine with either brand of CPU if you're just gaming. And other games will use more cores I believe. Not sure about Arma 3 specifically. I'm an idiot. And for recording I'd be thinking more about the SSD or HDD that you're writing to and the quality that's in. With either CPU and 8GB of RAM I think you're set. Also make sure you get 2x 4GB sticks, just in case you want to get more later ;)
  14. I think it's safe to say they're going for a theme of: SEXY ...or FABULOUS.

For gaming my understanding is going for the AMD is a good way to save money and still get good performance, you're just not going to get max performance. DayZ doesn't use the extra cores (maybe 2?) so I think that's where intel has them beat, as far as DayZ specifically (because each individual core is more powerful). I think that applies to both the mod and standalone. But gaming overall, you can safely go with either one of those AMD processors. And don't worry too much about the motherboard. That's the part I had a lot of trouble with but what I experienced was if you're buying a good brand and spending a decent amount of money ($80-$150USD) you're probably going to get everything you need. As I said just look for how many USB 3.0 it has, make sure it either has a few SATA II and III ports, or a bunch of SATA III, and make sure it supports your RAM speed. You already know about the socket. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130637 That's a good example of something that could work for you I think. Could do with a couple more USB 3.0 ports but whatevs. Are you using websites to make the purchases? If so, can you throw me a link to what site(s) you're using? EDIT: It should be said that I definitely prefer Intel and Nvidia, that's my bias haha.

Regarding CPU question and intel vs. amd. My understanding was that each individual intel core performs much better than each amd core. So higher numbers, whether looking at GHz or # of cores, doesn't necessarily mean it's better. You don't need a minimum of 3.5GHz, a lot of good i7s are 3.4. The 4770k is $355 so you can overclock probably comfortably above 4GHz.* Most motherboards are going to have USB 3.0 now. Some will ONLY have USB 3.0. Make sure you have a few SATA III ports as you've already said. If it has a lot of them, you won't even need SATA II. If you're spending at least $80 then you're probably good for making sure you have those things, just make sure it can support your RAM. DDR3 at 1600MHz is probably all you need and most motherboards will support at least this speed. Shop around for the RAM as there are lots of good brands! (Corsair, Kingston, G Skillz). You didn't mention this but what are you doing for storage? I'd imagine the SSD doesn't have a hell of a lot of space and recording with fraps and dxtory can take around 1GB/minute. So you might want to invest in a good storage drive (at least a TB). I bought a Western Digital Black because of the 7200rpm which I think means better write speeds. Obviously nothing is going to beat an SSD for this but obviously those are costly. WD Red might be able to do the trick!* I didn't really think a case was that important until I got a good case. I got a Fractal R4 (mine has the window) and it's AMAZING for customization and cable management. Check those out! For power supply, 600w+ is probably MORE than enough for what you're going to be building, even if you upgrade later. *I am not an expert at any of this and hopefully people weigh in with much more knowledge than me! I did my first build back in the summer so I learned a lot but there's just so much to know. EDIT: I agree with what Diddums said. let us haz budget
  17. Shit ain't happening until it's happening and who KNOWS when that will happen.
  18. I think for clothing there's just underwear.
  19. Seems like they're still pushing the server. I bet this is the highest average amount of players they've had in a day so far, even if you took away that 52 player chunk of time.
  20. "50 person server test today, I'm pissed." Good riddance!
  21. It was enough for me today to see 50 people on the server. I don't need dates or anything, it's just nice to know they're making progress that we can see!
  22. I think it's funny that when they hit their 50 mark the hype in here is relatively subdued. Whereas when some made up November 5th release date surfaced people went crazy. I suppose that's a good thing. Maybe people are calming down a bit.

    November Round-up

I spend a lot of time on a basketball forum and between that and the DayZ forums, I can honestly say there is no middle ground in discussion anymore. Players are either stars or they're complete busts, games are either awful (or never ever being released and the development team is completely incompetent) or they're absolutely perfect. If you try to have a reasonable discussion, people just label you as a fanboy. Sometimes I just throw my hands up in defeat. I think the real problem is coming from the negative people who think they're edgy and free thinkers because they can completely reject something. Unfortunately they just come across as morons incapable of critical, objective thought.
