  1. Gotta work for that cookie. Dance, developer man.
  2. It honestly makes zero difference to me. I don't think anyone developing the game is deliberately trying to hold certain features back for the hell of it. If it's not in the game there's probably a good reason for it. The alpha release will have what it has and I'll give my feedback and advice as best I can to help develop it further. My expectations are in line with what I think and alpha release is- a glitchy fraction of a game. If you or anyone else doesn't like that, then lucky for you you don't have to buy it! Or, as Feral mentioned, buy it now and play it when it's fully released.
  3. Whoa whoa the mod has nothing to do with this. I'm not saying vehicles can't be in the (or any) alpha. I'm saying if they have reasons for removing or adding certain features, that's what the hell an alpha is for. You can't just say that anything in the mod should be in the standalone alpha release. That's ridiculous.
  4. You're talking about individual features like vehicles now? It's alpha. As stated above, they're trying to get rid of some game breaking bugs. Fuck vehicles. They're the last thing on my mind for an alpha release. You have gone from being critical about the release to being critical about the game itself. No one is forcing you to stay if you really don't like it and have no faith in it. What is the point you're trying to make? That the game is going to suck and that the development team is incompetent? Fine. Everyone is quite excited that you feel that way.
  5. Your expectations should be in line with what you know about the development. This would include things like the size of the team, funding, their personal goals for what EXACTLY the alpha should have upon release, the nature of obstacles they're encountering, etc. If you don't know any of this then you have no reason to think they should have the game out at a certain date.
  6. I think the reason people sometimes shake babies is because the babies don't stop talking about missed DayZ alpha deadlines that never existed. I could see that being a reason I snapped. Watch yourself, offspring.

    Death storys

Ahahahahahahhaahha. Oh my my. EDIT: For future reference, is there a way to make that just a link??
  8. I think even I forget this sometimes. It's not like they have this massive massive pool of money to throw at employees and other resources for coming up with a perfect game. It will be interesting to see how much money this makes and if it translates to a larger team that is capable of a lot more (becoming AAA).
  9. http://youtu.be/JMUotV2WdiU?t=40s Just that first couple seconds is all I really wanted to post :P
  10. It will be here soon enough and you will get your fix :). Remember to take breaks though (every 16 hours should do it) and to continue to eat and drink!
  11. haha Wayze I'm beginning to think that maybe you actually have a psychological problem when it comes to DayZ! This sounds more like a dependency than excitement!
  12. He has weighed the options according to what he believes I guess. The anger of players after not being able to follow through on a given release date is greater than the anger of players who aren't given any date. Even with a good reason for delaying (COMPLETELY CHANGING) the game back in December, he still receives backlash for that. Months from now nobody will be saying "Dean didn't even tell us a date, that was stupid." Hype is completely controllable. That is nonsense. Hype is often based on unrealistic expectations and perceptions. You just control those things interally. You can be excited without being "hyped" about something. EDIT: @ShadowJack I lol'd. I guess it's an exciting time in every girl's life...
  13. My point was that if there's any confusion that it's from misunderstanding, meaning there's no confusion about what he actually meant just about what people thought he meant. I said that because earlier there was a tone suggesting that there were multiple ways of interpreting what Rocket said, and that was wrong. There is true and false for what he said, it's not something that's up for interpretation and analysis. We've only been waiting for the alpha release of the standalone for 6 months. Is that really that long to wait for a brand new game? I don't feel like it is. I also don't feel like any date has been pushed back ever. He said mid-June they would re-evaluate the situation and they did. At E3 he said no more than two months and probably a lot less. Even with "stumbling over his words" it's quite clear what he means if you watch the millions of videos of him repeating the same thing. By the way, he has never said anything close to "it's ready for release so release should be any time now." That's crazy. They may be making sure it's ready for release, but if it was ready it would be out. When you talk about development being convoluted that's also quite unfair. What about the development is convoluted? What they tell us? They don't have to tell us anything at all. We're lucky they've kept us in the loop even a little bit! Or are you talking about the literal development of the game? If so then you're going to have to enlighten me on what you know about what goes on with the actual development team. It sounds very self-entitled to sit here and say you deserve to have information in the way you want it (not convoluted) when no one has to give you that information in the first place. They could release a devblog 1 letter at a time every hour of every day if they wanted to. Personally, I think they've given us a huge amount of insight and information. I think the fact that the information is kind of fractured between sources is just a testament to how lucky we are to have it. It shows that they just throw whatever they can out there, whenever they can. Like I've said, if you want clarification on something you find confusing then come here. The only people I've ever given a hard time are people who show up on the forums having emotional fits about what they demand to know or about how disappointed they are with this or that and most of it is based on bad information. Anyone with a question or who is confused by something and asks for clarification is NEVER given a hard time. I made a post in another thread about the shitty looking zombies where I basically outlined the fact that the pathing seems off despite a previous development video showing that it was fixed. So between that development video and the newer build (E3), something seems to have broken. However, any criticism I have I will keep to a bare minimum until I actually play the game. Jumping zombies also doesn't matter because it can easily be tweaked or removed. I'm really reluctant to talk about content all that much until I actually play the game. I'll always maintain that people dangle their own carrots in front of their faces because while I've been excited and anxious about the release, I've always got the message that I'm going to have to wait a while. Never have I thought that I will absolutely be playing the game by this or that date, and I base that entirely on what I've read and heard from the development team. The carrot being dangled in front of you is useless if you're not completely desperate to have that carrot. Lower your own expectations and nothing becomes a tease anymore. You'll just see DayZ on steam one day. TL;DR Confusion is fine and understandable, but it doesn't mean something like what was said about release dates is debatable. I think people need to stop demanding that they have information in their desired amount and quality. Lower your expectations and you won't be teased by the development team in any significant way. P.S. And I mean no offense in any way to you, Roark. I'm not saying you actually are self-entitled by any means. I'm saying that sort of thing comes off that way and it just happens to rub me the wrong way
  14. Yeah the mod can be frustrating! I played DayZ last summer but stopped because of all the hackers and the inability to find a good server. I came back and got whitelisted on a private server and it's been awesome ever since! Once you find a comfortable server to play on you'll have a blast! :)
  15. Nope! It's quite clear! No later than 2 months after E3 and they have a general week they want to release it! There IS no confusion. If people are confused then they have just misunderstood. That's all! So we're all clear. Unless you have any other questions? No infidels. Promise.
  16. Oh did it get pushed back again? From what date? Edit: And you're right. They are doing a full public release of the alpha!
  17. Why wouldn't you get to run it!? Your parts will be in soon and you'll be good to go!
  18. On the contrary I think the point is they want to REMAIN confident in their product.
  19. I think in the Standalone though you have to hold a button to even raise your weapon. By default it's down and wants to be down. Just a minor stance change that could make a difference. Correct me if I'm wrong though, I can't remember 100% if that's the new default in the standalone.
  20. Haha best just to not expect anything at all and distract yourself with something else!
  21. I think the point I've made is that they've repeatedly said that there aren't a heck of a lot of goodies right now and they've shown us the "goodies" that are currently workable. Of course, there are probably new things added every day but it just isn't their job to show us everything that's going on all the time. Far from being because they want to generate "hype" I think it's more like they have more important work to do. If that's hype then I guess they're a hype machine.
  22. The only people who were hyped up were the people who didn't listen to any sentence after that. When he first said "window of about a week" I was confused too and then he elaborated and it was quite clear. For some people it wasn't, and that's fine but once they came here or went to whatever reliable DayZ source they had, they could be told to watch the video again and there is no mistaking what he meant. And he has already said no more than two months. Which still stands. People have to stop blaming others for their own misunderstandings. If you're making the point that Rocket is trying to hype the game then you haven't watched enough videos on the standalone's development. "Yeah this needs to be fixed. This needs to be fixed too. We'll get around to fixing that as well. It's pretty buggy right now. People shouldn't expect much from the Alpha release. We're definitely looking to add that later on. We're definitely looking to add that later on. We're definitely looking to add that later on. We're not setting a date and rushing the game. We're not setting a date and rushing the game." - Rocket. Every video. There is no hype coming from the development's side.
  23. No. Actually the only people who "know what you meant" are people who also thought there were multiple release dates. Am I missing something? There was LITERALLY only one release time frame blown and that was back and December and it was blown for a good reason. Since then there has been nothing. I'm serious, please elaborate on what you mean.

    Selecting a server

Well from what I hear it's being offered by a vendor in a moon colony of one of the planets orbiting Vega (of the constellation Lyra). Ask for a guy named Ted. I don't think he's liable for any 4th dimension risks such as the warping of time or space that may or may not leave you stranded in a parallel universe.
