A list of small complaints/issues.
AnarchyBrownies replied to Etherimp's topic in General Discussion
Don't bother getting defensive, I think you made a reasonable post! Apart from those discussion points I think you bring up a good point of where players can go to talk about all of these things. There needs to be like a Future Features section or something. It seems scattered at the moment. I guess a topic needs to be created for each idea in the General Discussion section.... but, as I said, that just seems really messy considering EVERYTHING seems to go in this section. -
He's talking about the distance from which they can be heard though. Can the placeholder sound not carry over a more realistic distance? Not sure how placeholders work exactly.

I feel like there are times where I've been right beside people and have heard nothing when they shoot. Haven't really tested it out or looked for the issue on the Feedback Tracker but if you can confirm it's an issue you should submit a bug report! I'd check it out myself as well, because I think you might be right, but I'm away from a computer capable of running the game :P If you haven't seen/heard of the bug report system, the website is here! There's also a thread about it at the top of the General Discussion forum if you want to know more about the process.

Can you Starve or die of dehydration?
AnarchyBrownies replied to Flame303's topic in General Discussion
No worries, have fun! Keep coming back with questions if you have them there are lots of people on here who will be quick to help! The game's at a pretty messy point so there are lots of weird quirks everyone is trying to figure out :) -

Yup! Once you go unconscious just hit ESC and then respawn. -
Weird Mouse movement DayZ standalone.
AnarchyBrownies replied to Nibiru (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
And for anyone having this issue go to the bug reporting page and you can get more info on it. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/login_page.php You don't need to submit another bug report because it's already well reported and it looks like it's fairly high priority at this point. -
This is a good point, now that you bring it up. I think maybe I found something on the ground level one time. Other than that (and it could have been an item a player dropped) I have never found anything up the ladders.

Ok i get it.. its alpha.. but this is worse than the mod.
AnarchyBrownies replied to yotimmyg@gmail.com's topic in General Discussion
Obviously you may disagree with this reasoning but luckily they're not forcing you to buy it. And, to the contrary, are advising you don't. This is a troll post. Too much bad information for it to be real. The other conclusion that could be drawn is that there is a reading comprehension issue, but the writing is passable so I'm going to settle with troll. -

Security Vulnerabilities fixed by Patch #2 and Character wipe
AnarchyBrownies replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Hate to backseat moderate and I promise never to do it again but this feels like an exceptional case. Get this guy out of here. Anyways, good call on the entire wipe. Look forward to seeing how security develops. I'm optimistic! -

What's the plan for the new loot system? Exactly how it is now but with more of certain things or are they going away from spawning everything at restart? -

Yeah, I can't imagine they'll wait too long to add in even something preliminary to prevent hopping. Like you said, even a 5 minute delay could work wonders. Combat logging seems like an easy enough fix too. We'll see what happens in the next couple weeks. And I'm not sure how often they've made changes to zombies but basically right now I barely see them and I'm having difficulty with how their hits register (and mine for that matter). They're a write off for me at this point. I'm looking forward to hearing about their development. -

I think your post is closer to how people should be critical but it still has things in it that drive me nuts and there are obvious sarcastic remarks that would indicate complaining (calling it a mod for ex.). Talking about bad optimization, combat logging, and zombies are all things that have already been addressed and you just haven't paid attention. YOUR problem. There has been pretty much no optimization to make it run smoothly for players. Given that information, it's actually surprisingly smooth. They definitely have plans for combat logging and have talked about different ways of trying to manage it. I'm sure it won't take long to come out with a system for this, which is why it wouldn't be prioritized in my mind. You're a tester first right now. If someone combat logs it's unfortunate and breaks the playing experience, but if you consider yourself a tester first then it's hardly a blip in what you're doing. Zombies shouldn't even be brought up because there's nothing constructive or new to add when it's the primary thing players were warned about. They are being COMPLETELY overhauled, your opinion on them right now means ZERO. Mentioning them is so pointless and is just an excuse for someone to inflate their list of "problems." And I'll agree that the loot system needs work but I'll also say that it's nice that I'm actually at risk of dying of starvation/thirst now. It needs to be closer to what it is now than what it was in the mod. -

You don't complain about problems when in alpha. You either report those problems quietly or you can be constructively critical. Complaining is useless and involves the exact people Rocket told repeatedly not to buy the game. Those people can just stop playing from now until later next year and save themselves a lot of hissy fits. I don't think I have seen anyone get flamed for talking about bugs or talking constructively about problematic features. The people COMPLAINING about bugs and problematic features are rightfully getting flamed into the ground. And as an aside I think the mods are being generous with the amount of low quality whiny, moany threads they're leaving open. -

I've given up on BF4. It was my first Battlefield game and it's been such a disappointment. I'll go back to it in a few months to see if they've patched it up enough. Or I guess I could go spend the next few months-year playing it, being disappointed, and spamming their forums with how incompetent they are. By the way, you seem to have quite a level head and logical insight about the game/release despite being so new. I hope you stick around, so far I've enjoyed every one of your 3 posts and it's always nice to have new forum members who make a solid contribution from the start! -

I think they have quite the team on it now. And by my math, based on the last numbers I heard, they made about 4.5 million dollars in 24 hours. (It was 150,000 people x $30USD)... from a game the developers themselves told everyone not to buy. I think they'll get the resources they need to make sure it continues along this path of success. Hopefully there's nothing to worry about! -

I'm getting a kick out of seeing certain recognizable names of people who are complaining/supporting complainers. I won't make specific mention of anyone but it applies to many threads. They complained because the game wasn't out when they wanted it out (and refused to listen to why that was), and they're complaining now when the game is out (because they refused to listen to warnings given about bugs/content). I think I see a trend. Tell you what, people who haven't stopped crying since last December- hell, I'll even settle with people who have been crying since this November- I'm going to let you in on a little secret. This game will never ever be good. Like ever. Not even close. They'll just suck money out of you until you've got nothing left (real life looting ensues) and they'll be laughing. Just abandon the game now. Leave and never come back because all the developers will ever do is let you down. It will be so liberating to be free of this horrible, disappointing game after months and months of stressing over how little it meets your expectations. Just go now and thank me later. In fact, I don't need thanks. Just go. -
What do you mean it went nowhere? I think it showed quite effectively that there are very weak reasons for allowing essentially unlimited controls for server owners. And I think we all enjoy KOS quite a bit. You may have difficulty with this idea but what the people against private hives are after are organic situations where anything could happen. That includes KOS. What we DON'T want is a predictable scenario where all you're ever going to experience is KOS. When I go on COD or Battlefield I don't expect to make friends with the other team. I know what's going to happen. When I go on DayZ, I don't know what's going to happen. THAT IS THE POINT. That is the whole experience.
-
I think that's the issue with modding in the case of the DayZ mod. That 90% falsely equates enhancing the experience and completely changing the experience. It's a slap in the face to the 10% with good ideas, and to the original developer(s) of DayZ.
-
No, Dean had an original idea and created something new out of ARMA. What people are asking for when they want to kill everything after starting with every weapon and vehicle is closer to ARMA. Go play and mod that, they want you to. You can have everything you have in these ridiculous servers and it is encouraged because it doesn't ruin the experience, it's the experience they want you to have. But don't use the DayZ name to create COD just because so many people reflexively go for it without thinking.
-
I don't think you're factoring in why people go along the path of least resistance. You're saying if it's what they want then let them have it and I have a couple arguments against that. 1. In the case of DayZ people go for the path of least resistance because they don't understand their own excitement over certain features in regular DayZ. If you see a rare item in regular DayZ (helicopters, high powered weapons, vehicles) you think "Wow, I would love to get my hands on that." Then they see a server offering it. They immediately are enticed because they associate these features with their excited feels. They get on these servers, start playing, and get sucked in based on this cheap feeling of having something they didn't actually work for. It's exciting enough to try it out, but they completely lose their respect for the feature, thus with the core idea of DayZ, which is survival (and YES you can have a central theme in a sandbox game). Everything comes easy and then they start treating the game how the last decade of our generation only knows how to treat one: As a full on FPS deathmatch. Keep in mind that most of the people playing DayZ had never tried ARMA so when they hopped on these loaded up servers they could get hours and hours of fun just playing a new game that was essentially ARMA with insignificant zombie things running around... but it wasn't DayZ. Yet, people were still advertising their servers with the DayZ name. Which leads me to my next point- 2. Modding multiplayer games should not be allowed except in cases where they're designed for it/need it (ARMA for ex.). DayZ is its own experience and is a very specific one. If people don't like it they should play something else and stop standing on the shoulders of giants to make it something it's not. Seriously, if only 20,000 people are interested in the DayZ experience then those are the numbers it should have. I don't think that's the case. I think hundreds of thousands of people are interested but a lot get hijacked by people (servers) offering cheap thrills using the DayZ name. When they get bored after a month they move on to the next game, associating DayZ as that game where they flew around in a helicopter the majority of the time and had sniper wars.
-
By the way, I love the logic of saying "People who don't like it, don't have to play it" coming from people who are already looking for the right to change a game that just came out and hasn't even left alpha yet.
-
Go play a different game if you don't like the one given to you. Better yet, make your own. EDIT: Point being, don't call it DayZ.
