  1. This has been explained quite a few times in the main thread by the guy that initially wrote the system. If your friend is near you and knows you're trying to log off but decides to start shooting at rabbits, you simply can't log off. Ask him to stop. If he does, 30 seconds later you can log off. If he refuses to stop because he thinks its funny, shoot him in the head. 30 seconds after you dome him you will be able to log off. There is a timer displayed on screen. If you close your program through other means, you will be flagged as a combat logger in the server logs and a message is displayed to everyone on the server. The admin can then decide what to do with you. You will not die as that part has been removed from the update. You will just be shunned and hopefully banned if you attempt to combat log.

    Where did the female go?

I posted that in the main thread. I only suggest this because I did see the option to choose the female skin after I was killed by a hacker, quit, and went to a new server to respawn. Each death after that forced me into the male skin. Worth a shot. Hope it helps.

    Build 1.7.3 Rolling Update

I noticed this as well. When you die, don't respawn. Go to anther server attached to whatever hive you play on. When you join you should see the option to choose the female skin. Looks like it might just be a bug.

    Build 1.7.3 Rolling Update

Yes, for 30 seconds. You might need to ask your friend to stop trying to cut down that tree if you're trying to log off.

    Build 1.7.3 Rolling Update

Could alt-f4 can be enabled for a period of time after a sudden location change, regardless if you're being fired on or not? This would help us avoid mass teleport deaths while not really giving combat loggers or hackers any extra advantage.
  6. I like this system. Could the humanity system tie into it to help determine self defense kills? Keep up the good work and don't mind the rippers. The people that matter thank you for your hard work.

    Combat Logging (ALt+F4) solved...

The combat system could also help identify self defense kills. Let's not overlook that. edit: could also help prevent skin changes when a horde is chasing you.

    Zombies are too Powerful

Once you know how to lose them and how to avoid them then they cease to be a threat. I try my best not to hide in a tree but I occasionally find myself doing that if I'm in really bad shape. I do still try to zigzag through trees and find other ways to break their line of sight rather than abusing the mechanics. Even then, running into a building to lose them or pop them with a silent weapon works for now. Once they can run through buildings and see stationary targets in trees, things will change. I'm looking forward to that day. The game needs to be much harder. :) :)

    Combat Logging (ALt+F4) solved...

I'm willing to suicide myself to avoid being griefed by a hacker if it means cowards can't alt-f4 anymore. Don't get attached to your gear folks.

Pending Update: Build 1.7.3 (community edition)

I never alt-f4 but my targets occasionally do. These fixes sound good to me.

    DayZ Standalone Question

If you're strapped for cash right now, I suggest you wait. In the meantime, there are tons of active streamers and tons of videos. You can literally watch non-stop streams and videos of the game until the standalone comes out. When it does, you can be sure there will be plenty of streamers showcasing the standalone. Watch some streams, read some reviews, and then decide if you like what you see.
  12. I guess we should weigh the points here. It'll help private server admins spot obvious hackers. Some innocent guys might get banned from these servers but that's happening now anyway. It can also be used by abusive server admins to track players and vehicles more easily. Well, that's happening too, be it admins or not. The only difference is how accurate it is compared to map hacks out there. (videos folks) This is only a slightly more effective tool for abusive admins and a much more effective tool for honest and legit admins that want to prevent the hackers from destroying their server. This might help catch even more map hackers. Having the ability to watch people play rather than read long logs might make policing a server more enjoyable and make administering a server less of a chore. The pros outweigh the cons from my standpoint. It doesn't sound like this will be possible in the standalone anyway but I could be wrong.

Poll: Which DayZ map is your favorite?

Namalsk is pretty interesting. I just wish it was bigger. The atmosphere of the map is terrific. Chernarus a very close second followed by Lingor. Also (edit: spam removed. :) )

    SurvivorGameZ. Winners: Puddn & b00a

Digging this. Just watch Sac get sacked. I also liked seeing a guy score a kill with a crossbow.

Screw underground bases, barricading is where it's at

That would work if the servers were not all connected by the hive.

    Safest Game Style In DayZ?

Easy. Find a vehicle. I think a bike will work but any vehicle will do.. Make sure you have plenty of food and water and then go find a blue construction dumpster. Now, pull up right next to it and exit the vehicle. You should end up IN the dumpster. Now go prone. No one will be able to see you. And as far as I can tell, no one will be able to shoot you. You can hide in the dumpster for a very long time assuming you don't starve to death or die of dehydration. Easy. Safe. Reliable. Cowardly. But SAFE!

will becoming a hero have BAD conseqeunces?

The only downside to the hero skin is all the chaffing caused by all the clothes changing.

Map Tools, V3, and Standalone Maps

I found tons of resources on the BI forums and wiki when I first looked into it. Quite a few people contributed tutorials and walkthroughs and even suggested alternative programs for the initial design of custom maps. Keep looking? Read through some threads? Run various searches? [from other thread :) ]

    derp, wrong thread

More enter-able buildings, wil it work?

I'm hoping the chance of being killed by zombies while looting is a bigger problem.

    New Standalone Screenshots released

    Home sweet home.
  22. sausagekingofchicago

Why do you even play dayz ?

It's Oct 14th. They're aiming for a November release of the standalone. Do we really need an update for the mod? Unless it reduces the hacking problem I say no.

I set up some tents.. in some thick brush

Or, put your tent into any dam. If you get close enough only the smallest bit of tent will stick out of the dam and it'll be hardly noticeable.

I set up some tents.. in some thick brush

If you're really clever with this you can put a tent in a tent in a tree. Then even pros will overlook your actual tent.
