First name, last name, and some numbers (usually age or y.o.b.) A very common handle/nickname usage around the net. I stand corrected. :)

[3D model] Different Food Qualities (3/29 Update)

For some reason, I get the feeling you doubt me. :( That's it Fraggle, you're not invited to my b-day party! Anyway, I failed at my lods and I don't want my 18 wheelers to drive through my houses.

Will do, I just need to nail it all down first. I also forgot to mention JoeySlucky22's thread. JoeySlucky and Elveron pointed me in the right direction and Slucky's post on his process nailed down two issues I was having. Props/Beans/Gold nuggets to those guys.

Right off and real quick as I'm out the door, these two guides have been exceedingly useful. I recommend anyone who can model and happen to be interested in getting your stuff in game to this tutorial step by step by step. Config files can still drive you nuts though. http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Mondkalb%27s_Addon_Tutorial This was originally for Operation Flashpoint but it covers the basics nicely. http://ofp.gamepark.cz/_hosted/brsseb/tutorials.htm I'd probably avoid explaining how to model as I'm not worthy. :) There are some great noob friendly tutorials on BlenderCookie so that's a good place to start if you happen to not be Orlok (he's a 3d god) and you're interested in learning. Autodesk has a complete series on 3ds Max and Maya on youtube and students can get the software for free (mind the license).

Designing and texturing a model is only about a third of the actual work it takes to get it into the game. Even nailing down the objects scale can be a bit annoying and that's after you've written or edited the config files, rvmats, processed all the various maps, and built all the proper lods. Don't let that scare you though. We wouldn't have all the mods now if people didn't tackle these problems before. I'm pretty sure this community can do it if those stiff collared Arma nuts could. ;) When I get this 100% nailed down (or close enough) I'll try to write up a walk through or at the very least link to all the various sources that have guided me.
  6. Night time is where the fun is. Fire up the flashlight, find some flares and immerse yourself in the darkness. So much more fun than adjusting the gamma. Glad to hear it's working. :)
  7. Edit the Max Connections option. If you have a few favorite servers you play on, uncheck the refresh all servers on startup.

In dayz, which side of the road do you drive on?

    Depends on server location.

    Just saw Rocket again.

He'll probably just drive up a small incline and go home.

    Im banned

Sounds like a server ban, not a global. Not that anyone here could do anything about either of them.

Fraggle's edits are like the Spanish Inquisition, no one expects it. :)

[3D model] Different Food Qualities (3/29 Update)

Took another honest crack at this today and got my junk in game. I too was binarizing my .p3ds. I got them in via the magazine file so thanks for that Elveron. Now I just need to polish up my textures, get my items to a reasonable size (giant food!), and get my models down to a reasonable poly count and I might actually make something worthwhile. :) Thanks for posting your progress fellas. It helped a lot.

They'll be bullet proof and they'll stand in one place all day long handing out the same quest to every person that comes by. Super awesome! Haven't seen a thread like that around here. There's bits and pieces spread out in other unrelated threads though. BIforums is your best bet but I have a feeling you've been there (ssshhhh, don't mention DayZ to those guys). :) The SA might not support community made maps for quite a while. Free, unless rocket gets kidnapped by EA.

I'm 68% sure Rocket mentioned an expanded Chernarus and 80% sure a (roughly) 30% increase was mentioned. This was a while back so things could have changed. Either way I've been under this impression for quite a while. I think he said this around the same time he first mentioned increasing the amount of players per server. NPCs like those found in other games, no thanks. Quests and all that nonsense, nope. Some type of event/resource/epeen that draws the various clans/squads/groups of a server into direct conflict with each other could be interesting. Right now we just hunt each other for fun and little bits of loot, ammo, or maybe a vehicle is the reward. NWAF, NE, Cherno, Elektro, Starry is where most pvp action is going to be found and that rarely changes. Some type of npc/scripted event could create random hotspots similar to how chopper crashes do now (if you're willing to camp them). Rocket shot down the idea of scripted events a while back but one that was proposed was that of a plane going down. A plane flies over Cherno for example, engines on fire, billowing smoke and an S.O.S. goes out. The plane goes down west of Zelen. Those with radios might hear the transmission and start hunting for the site. Players that saw it might head off in whatever direction it was moving. Word spreads, groups start converging, and all hell breaks loose. NPC survivors are getting chased and munched on by zombies, gun fire is ringing out, npcs are getting dropped in the crossfire, your TS is going ape shit, there's smoke, fires, and debris everywhere, a cow is on fire, there's movement in all the tree lines and you can't identify targets, dogs and cats, living together, mass hysteria. Add some npc extract or kill squads coming to the crash and you have a recipe for some serious drama that no one is going to forget. And then, leave the wreck there on the server so players can tell their noob friends how they were there that day, and it was glorious (even though they were really at work and missed it all). In this example the area around the crash suddenly becomes a new pvp hotspot where no one immediately has the upper hand. Make the timing of these events random and make them rare and it wont feel as boring as 'collect 10 zombie heads, get banana' type quests or npc interactions. For the record, I'm not a pure pvp player. I just wouldn't mind if it was spiced up a bit with something interesting. Lonewolves and survivalists could still benefit from npc events in the form of loot and the shifting of the pvp players from the most common pvp hotspots.

I'll just save that for later..

    2 week "veteran"

I think this depends on what version you're playing, what server, and what you choose to do when you've gather the basic supplies. If you hang on the coast then you probably want a couple guys running around with you. If you're north of the deathmatchers then you just need a hatchet, some bandages, a knife, and some matches.

I've noticed unused beans seem to rollover to the next day but I still manage to run out. :)

Wow, those guys will do anything to sell their game.

Do you want Wild Animals in DayZ? Yes or No?

Do coyotes poop in the reservoir? But of course.

    Realistic Map Use

It's neat and all but kind of pointless in my opinion. It would add to immersion but trying to read a topographical map in a view like that would be damn near impossible. I always assumed the level of zoom given to us in the game was due to not having some ridiculous map folding animation. All the way zoomed in would be the actual detail of the map. Zooming out just represents us selecting a different page or section of the map. :) That said, I would like to see a variety of maps with different levels of detail. A simple roadmap wouldn't offer the same level of detail a topographical map would and depending on it's date, might not be all that accurate either. A touristy map would also blow if that's all you had in this setting but it would be better than nothing.

    Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead problem

Had this problem too. Strangely enough... it didn't pop up when I fired up Arma. It only showed up when I played DayZ.
