[Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization
sausagekingofchicago replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
If anything, the biggest disappointment I have with this system is the likely increase in scummy mod "makers" like the Origin folks. At best it will cause modders and map makers to be far more protective of their code and assets. We'll just have to wait and see how BI handles the monetization of stolen assets and code that will definitely occur. -
I'll finally get to relive the Dirt Bike Kid again.

Learn to use the compass and in game map and how to read the terrain. I'm willing to bet I could find myself within a few meters on a brand new map with a completely random spawn if I had both a compass and map. It's not hard.
-
I'm aware early man was able to do it, but a modern man has no clue how and to do it effectively like our ancestors is even harder. It's not about finding a couple "rocks" either. Finding the right materials is harder than just a stick int he woods and a rock from the ground. Anyway, there's enough games will silly crafting like that. DayZ should avoid it.

Crafting something like an axe that you could really use, or one that lasts, requires a lot of skill in real life. I know this is a game but I'd hate for it to be too easy for someone to craft tools like that. That said, I'd love to be able to craft an animal bladder canteen and use more parts of the animals (or survivors) for survival. I'm sure this will come over time and if not, hell, mods are going to be a big deal here anyway. If you read the updated bit in post two they outline what is going on. Hicks' PAX presentation goes into even more detail. A lot of the focus is on getting the engine complete and many of the systems are dependent on each other in one way or the other. I also expect them to continue fleshing out the features they've already laid the groundwork for. Once all the core bits of the engine are done I'm sure we'll start seeing smaller things like better crafting and the likes. I don't think the devs are trying to deceive us at all.

Will we ever get these old things in the game back
sausagekingofchicago replied to thefriendlydutchman's topic in Suggestions
Utes was scrapped as it didn't fit what they wanted and I still find hidden loot in houses. It's not exactly hidden anymore since I always look in those spots. -
Nope. SMoss added additional info based on what Hicks discussed in detail during his PAX AU presentation.
-
I'm pretty sure the devs will not move to beta without the game being feature complete. Now, completed features is a different story.

Actually, Mfratane is correct. Plans to build a new engine were announced in early 2013. When work officially started is unclear. This was the plan before anyone could buy the SA. Post release, they did reportedly scale up the game but the new engine was already planned. "A couple glorified modders" is not what the development team consists of. You seem to be partially well read on DayZ's development but you've somehow missed a lot of key information along the way.

A guy who wishes to remain anonymous wanted me to ask you these important questions: "when will renderer be released and how much will it increase fps?" "specific dates and numbers please" "where are the helicopters and will they spawn in great numbers in elektro?" It wasn't VIktor.

The devs were hoping to have it out by the end of the year but that's looking a bit iffy at this point.

Limit modding in the beginning
sausagekingofchicago replied to thefriendlydutchman's topic in Suggestions
No thanks. I want to mod my hardcore experience. The game is too easy right now and I imagine there's a few people out there that would agree with me. -
The SR's are usually just an overview of what they're working on, not what is coming right away. We might not see the fruits of all of this until the big engine merges happen.

Very excited about the possibilities here.

DayZ SA Modding: A New Map
sausagekingofchicago replied to ColdAtrophy's topic in General Discussion
May be able to submit some small models/objects. HIt me up with a few and I'll see what I can contribute. There are a lot of history books to read if you're really wondering. Agreed. -
I love the idea of random doodads that you can collect and wear on your clothes. The more rare the better. Even rare versions of common items would be cool. It would make a great mod if the devs don't do it.

That is how I've used every smoke grenade I've found. :D -
Mod zombies vs SA zombies
sausagekingofchicago replied to zombieland78's topic in General Discussion
I agree, it doesn't fit DayZ but I fully expect a mod inspired by Z Nation to pop up with all the silly zombie variants. That show does a good job of boiling down the zombie genre into their silly hack of a show. -
Mod zombies vs SA zombies
sausagekingofchicago replied to zombieland78's topic in General Discussion
I know you know better than that. The Z in DayZ has never stood for Zombie. Mod zombies were a joke. Anyone with 50 hours logged could walk through a horde and laugh while gunning down someone and then duck into a tree or through one of the few buildings available to lose them. Come on now Baker, I know you know I know you know I know. -
Exp Update: 0.59 (+hotfix).
sausagekingofchicago replied to boneboys's topic in PC Experimental Updates
I've noticed this on the Sporter as well. I can tap my ~ and switch between texture resolutions. I recently (and finally) followed some FPS guides so I assumed it had to do with that. It doesn't bother me too much but it is certainly noticeable. -
Can u like.. make 1.8.7 be like 1.7.6.1 :D
sausagekingofchicago replied to silverblade1233's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Like everyone is saying, you can always play older builds. No one is forcing you to update and there are plenty of guides online to help walk you through setting up your own server with whatever version you want.
