Ya know, I'm not sure where the knife comes into play. Can someone explain it to me? The blood bag i get, but the knife?

Well, people did ask for special zombies... why not rare special zombies with nothing but a cosmetic difference? :D

Stick them with the pointy end? Find a hatchet right away, hit G to open your inventory, right click on the hatchet, select "remove from toolbelt" and swing away. -

Earning Persistent Gear in SA
sausagekingofchicago replied to Dr. Goner's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Nothing should carry over from the previous life. Players with tons of game experience already start off with an advantage over a noob. This shouldn't be made worse with extra gear at spawn. Now getting some type of useless aesthetic item for accomplishing X task Y amounts of time in a given life wouldn't be bad if it's something subtle. Key words: useless and subtle. Something like mismatching shoelaces or a sheath for your knife so it's strapped on your leg. It wouldn't actually impact the game but would indicate your playstyle to others. The amount of time survived should grant the magic beard and length of time wearing the same piece of clothing should grant the dirty hobo look. basically, no perks of any sort. -
Loot. To boost both immersion and help make the world feel fresh and unknown, I suggest a dynamic loot system for homes and buildings similar to the current downed choppers with subtle visual indicators to help separate these locations from standard lootable buildings. Barring some rapid attack of whatever infection caused the outbreak, some people may have had time to prepare and certain houses would be better stocked than others. People furthest from the initial outbreak/arrival of the infection in Chernarus may have had more time to prepare as well. Identifying the level of preparedness could be done with subtle visual ques such as boarded up windows of various quality. A house that appears to be boarded up from the inside at the last minute probably wouldn't be the best place to find medical supplies and large stashes of food. Houses that appear to have been boarded up by some doomsday nut with quality wood on hand would likely have a large cache of supplies waiting inside. Adding to that, some houses that appear to be the preppers dream may still have zombies inside and some of the windows on the other side of the house may have been breached so it's not always a given these houses will have quality items of any sort. This may encourage players to take a cautious approach and search around the house rather than rushing in to quick loot. The level of preparedness of the homes could change on each server restart similar to how the downed choppers currently work. This would may help in keeping the gameworld unpredictable and fresh while rewarding exploration and random blind luck. I honestly just wanted to post some silly pictures of windows. The "I don't know what I'm doing, this isn't going to keep shit out" The "good thing I had some pallets, shutters, and a disco light" The "this will do for the night" The "go away, we don't want any" The "I was born ready" The "i got this covered"

DayZ Standalone, Freelook, Third Person
sausagekingofchicago replied to DontTrustPubs's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
err... I get why some of you dislike it and I've had a blast playing on a hardcore server before but I've also seen some terrible "solutions" to the third person 'exploits' (the only actual exploits I see are the ones that glitch teh camera through buildings to see through them) almost entirely suck. They don't suck because they limit the use of third person, they suck because its usually some shitty camera zoom that causes disorientation when another player walks behind you or suck because your character ends up taking up the entire freaking screen. Many big powerhouse big money cash machine developers have attempted to solve this problem for the whiners. They always fail. Being an old school third person shooter fan, I can assure you none of the solutions I've ever seen have worked. Breaking DayZ with some shitty camera or OTS view will piss off fans faster than a pay to win model (well.. maybe not, but close). Third person view is part of what makes DayZ what it is. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Just adjust the distance of the camera from the player based on stance. -
I'm pretty sure players would still kill each other if the map was flooded with 50 different types of ways to help each other and only 5 guns.

sausagekingofchicago replied to willey.erd@oundleschool.org.uk's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Work is slowing down a bit so I should have more time to get frustrated with all of this soon. My main problem is the type of items I want to create. A lot need new spawn locations or behave similar to the hatchet (items gained from various uses). That's a bit beyond me but should be fun. I'm starting to look at some of these really cheap dayz servers at the moment. :) -
Because you're playing against a bunch of people gacked out on Adderall and the matchmaking is broken for you for some reason.

Am I the only person that really doesn't care for 'base building'?
sausagekingofchicago replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think base building could work very well if we had a much larger map to roam. I just don't see that happening any time soon. Bases should take a lot of time to build but since the servers are run by individuals you can never really be sure if the base you spent 3 weeks developing is going to be there after the fourth week. Perhaps this is another plus in the instanced underground base column? Maybe your bases will be accessible even if someone decides to no longer host the server you originally started it on? I strongly disagree with that type of feature. No safe havens like this should be considered for the SA. There are no magic doors or unbreakable walls in real life. They shouldn't be in a zombie apocalypse either. -
Tents should disappear on death.
sausagekingofchicago replied to jamieledgeway@hotmail.co.uk's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd be happy with a heavily instanced server difficulty setting. I like rolling with my team but large organized groups, no matter how fun, make the game very easy and turn it all into a massive deathmatch. The most fun I've had was with the early random encounters with strangers. Having a team makes the shoot on sight decision way too easy imo. We're less likely to bring a random into a group because we know the damage they could do. More than likely, some loner is shot because he was nothing more than an obstacle or potential target practice. Not having a group and having to rely on a random to survive a harsher environment (tougher zombies etc) seems a bit more interesting to me than getting picked up again and again at the coast or running directly to my stash so I can camp some hot spot. There's still plenty of room for what we have now if it was just a setting or flavor of DayZ. It's just getting a tad boring and predictable to me. I'm sure there's other solutions to the core issues though. I just want the game world to feel more threatening and harder to survive. -

sausagekingofchicago replied to jamieledgeway@hotmail.co.uk's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd like to doublepost and throw out some stuff for conversation sake. I sort of feel like weapon degradation and light instancing would solve this. Weapon degradation is easy enough. You die, and whatever stash you have in your tent "ages" a bit and at the very least a good cleaning would be required to get a gun up to spec. Likely, you would need to replace a bit here or there to get that as50 (:D) up and gunning. At worst, you'd find some guns that you could scavenge some parts from. This would be slightly better than running back to a stash of perfect condition weapons in a tent. Perhaps the number of deaths since placing the weapons in the tent would impact their overall condition? Silly-ish, sort of, but definitely a little better than what we have. I'm, again, still a hardcore fan of the idea that once you die you're kicked off to another instance/server where all your previous stash is long lost. Other players in the previous instance/server could "find" your tent of goodies but you're more of less a new character without access to that stash. Mind you, the instanced server hive I imagine is far fucking down the road from what we have now and likely insane anyway. I'd like to see a heavily instanced server structure where you really feel alone, even in a 150 player server. Don't ask. Let's just say the can of beans you're hunting for will come at some sort of cost. -

sausagekingofchicago replied to jamieledgeway@hotmail.co.uk's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Upside: Tents would still be useful for loot farming, if you're into that sort of thing. Any pals you have that don't play every day would become priceless as you could store gear/parts in their tents. Most legit players would become more cautious. Downside: keybuyingdouches would have tents full of gear Servers refusing to update. ( always dies off a month or so anyway ) More assholes would come out of the woodwork knowing hardwork would be destroyed with a simple hack. Middleside: Coastal pvp would spike but so would hot spot locations. (very oldschool feeling though) Angry forum posts. (yay) Still being useful for being a dick and blocking off access to areas. (the new barbed wire) It would be an interesting experiment. edit: tent limits and removal at server restart could be easily bypassed by having friends and a spare tent in a tent. -

Where are the Mod's new maps?
sausagekingofchicago replied to Michaelvoodoo25's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I could be wrong but I thought most of the maps that were suited for DayZ were already ported. I remember seeing a lot of small maps and not a lot of large ones that would work well with DayZ. Maps from scratch can take a long time to do properly.
