    What you're describing is the mod, not the SA. From what I understand, a great number of textures and models were created, existing buildings revamped, the map got a face lift texture and numerous improvements, changes to the height map and new areas are being created for the northern edge, and new animations were captured for survivors and zeds. The engine has had a substantial rewrite and very little is being carried over from the mod other than the concept and the bandage. So I guess they had the height map of Chernarus, an engine drowning in unnecessary code, some models that needed retexturing, and a bandage. I don't see why they couldn't finish the game in a month!! /s

    Today is a sad day for me

    Seriously, the whole map will be a safezone, no one can steal or damage your vehicles, and you have to turn pvp ON to shoot other players even when you're in pvp spots. Everyone gets a chopper at spawn and we got rid of that whole infection/sickness thing entirely. Now you just have to press the spacebar once in a while so your character doesn't take a nap. edit: You can now build barracks with barbed wire and tin cans.

    Epoch is taking over... at least until I'm done with my mod "DayZ Playground". There will be no pvp other than in specific pvp areas!!!!!

    Dear Rocket and his team, no private hives, please.

    There's not much point in any of the changes the devs are making to the zombies, loot, environment, health system, etc if every kid with 20 bucks can open a server with starting gear that negates most of the challenge. They might as well just release a bunch of really simple modding tools and an empty map if they hope to see a bunch of crap servers.

    I kind of side with the gore team. I don't see why players and zombies couldn't leave the bloody mess. The evidence of an attack could tell much more of a story than just a dead player body surrounded by dead zombies.
  12. Well, it seems like Rocket didn't want this to be a KoS game so I doubt he's going to let it. The damaged gear mechanic is only what we know of for certain. There could be other things in the works that we know nothing of that could impact and/or drive away the guys who can't think of anything other than 'kill' when they see another player. The point is, we don't know how it's all going to work. I expect people to log in on day one, servers permitting, and attempting to deathmatch on the coast. How successful they are is yet to be seen.
  13. There's no hope in trying to curb the most blatant KOS players. The blatant shoot on sight players would try to shoot you even if the world was on fire and he was about to die. Luckily they're a minority. Unfortunately that minority has molded how everyone else interacts. So it's about baiting the rest of us, the victims of conditioned fodder, into not shooting everything that moves. Damaging gear will work for some of us. We'll just have to see how that impacts the game's experience. Maybe something more will be needed. Personally, I'm going to store the most valuable gear in my vest/shirt pockets. Eat it bandit. Safezones? Nah.
  14. This discussion is a bit silly. Everyone is basing their opinions on the mod. If the zombies are changed, the medical system changed, and the loot system changed, then how can anyone say what they will or wont do when the entire situation has changed?

    Need help Asap new to dayz

    Install and launch Aram 2. At the main menu, quit the game. Install and launch Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead. At the main menu, quit the game. Download the mod here: http://se1.dayz.nu/latest/1.8/ Pick the @Client-1.8-Full.rar. Open the file in 7zip. Browse to your Arma2 Operation Arrowhead directory. Create an @DayZ directory. Copy all the files from the file you downloaded from dayz.nu into the @DayZ folder. (if the rar already had an @dayz folder, just copy that to the OA directory) Download the Arma2 beta patch from here. http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php I usually go with the file in the green bar but occasionally there may be an issue with an update. Just make sure your beta patch version matches the server(s) you want to join. Run the Arma2 beta patch. Watch it carefully as it will complete the installation and not give you a notice. Locate and find the _runA2CO_beta.cmd file in your OA directory. Right click on it, edit. Find "-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;EXPANSION;ca;" and add @dayz right after the ";ca;" so the the line looks like "-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;EXPANSION;ca;@dayz" Save. Double click on _runA2CO_beta and you'll launch into dayz. Once there you can click multiplayer and either search for DayZ servers or remote connect with an IP. There you go. If you run aground somewhere, google the manual install. I don't think I forgot anything.

    I wouldn't base it on number of times a player spawns as that'll just lead to suicides but that would work just as well. Perhaps when the player runs out of spawns he'd have to revert to randoms spawns. A timer would probably work better though. 10, 15, even 30 minutes would be reasonable considering the whole "survival" aspect and all.

    Can't help but agree with you there. I hereby propose a respawn timer or some type of cooldown on spawn locations. I really like having the choice of spawn but the downside needs to be addressed a bit.
