BETA in 8 months or less.

I wouldn't hold out for the game "working flawlessly before beta". That simply isn't what Alpha is for from what I understand. edit: I just realized my tagline/status doesn't make sense now that my "ago" carries over. Lame. Fixed

    Status Report - 10 January 2017

Concerns should (not "must") be met. If anyone attempts to please everyone they'll find themselves in an endless spin. With DayZ, as I've seen new players constantly join the discussion on various boards, the devs would be in an constant attempt to provide both undead zombies and infected... because.. you know, the concerns of the consumers MUST BE ADDRESSED. I've obviously made a silly misconception into a massive disaster of development there but... you know... which "concerns MUST be addressed?" That is an endless cycle of failure. Allowing the majority of a "community" to design a game will lead to financial ruin.

    Status Report - 10 January 2017

I disagree. If people bought the game demanding a Call of Duty like experience (purely as an example) should they go ahead and produce a Call of Duty game even though everything they've said to do date was contrary to that? Early Access Developers are not puppets. If they say they're going to build a certain type of game they should follow through and not whore themselves out to make a minority of people happy.

    Status Report - 10 January 2017

@Peter If anything, we need even more difficulty. Every door we open should be risky. Risk shouldn't be entirely based on what town we enter or where on the map we choose to loot. Please do not cater to the masses here. The "run to Military Gear, get vehicle, deathmatch" crowd will be catered to with the inevitable easy mode mods. Please make the vanilla game far more brutal than the mod ever was by making every choice a risk. Yes, the deathmatchers and weaker streamer friends will ragequit and talk shit, but they'll obviously come back with the carebear mods. Those of us that want a BRUTAL experience will be here and those that wanted that from start will come back. The average lifetime displayed on the site was a major draw for many in the old days. People wanted to see how well they could survive or how long it took them to conquer the experience. Nerf it and you'll force modders to hack in the experience it should be rather than letting modders nerf it for the plebs.

    Let's talk about Learning

If soft skills are ever gained from reading books I really hope the books actually include real world information to inspire people to learn. There's still to this day far too many people who can't read a topo map even after hundreds of hours in the mod and SA. It's a life skill folks. It's useful. Useful stuff is good.

I understood the system. It was still bad. Surely DayZ haters can echo that and then back it up.

Maybe not in early builds. Either way it was anything but intuitive. Much of the game was anything but intuitive.

Maybe my memory is faulty but did they not swing both ways? Or was it just the awkward way it functioned that laid the foundations of hate into my heart? Edit: reinstalling last build of TDL

    Status Report - 25 Oct 2016

Peter is going full Egon I see. I'm not super excited about the door thing even though I believe I've seen the devs kick this idea about before. I imagine it's a tricky issue from a design standpoint. To be honest, I'm a bit pro letting the door clip through the character or even just allowing us to open the door from a further distance and add a bump/stop animation than have it swing both ways. Swinging both ways would be cheaper but do we (fans&devs) really want to accept that corner being cut? I don't know but whatever is clever I guess. :/ I just know I hated how doors behaved in The Dead Linger and would hate to see something that arcady get added to DayZ. Everything I can think of to counter the silliness of this could just as easily be added to one way doors and make it even more immersive such as adding squeaky doors countered by WD-40/oil, 50/50 risk on slowly opening the door in attempts to avoid squeaks, or extremes such as crossing the streams to reverse the particle flow through the door. Was not the animation/engine ninjas working on a system tied to the player controller to allow us to cease drinking/setting up a tent/building a fireplace/bandaging/eating by letting go of whatever key we have to hold for the action? Why cannot this system be tied to opening doors? Why would we be stuck in the door opening animation still? Is it more complicated than generating a new object or applying a status to a player because it deals with a static world object? P.S. I'm the biggest fanboy of all according to multiple sources across the entire interwebs. I love you guys long time. PM me if you want a pizza roll.

    The Frequency of Updates

Why do you think this should take less than 3 years? How long do games take to develop normally? How long does it take to develop a new game engine? By what comparisons are you basing your time limit on?

    Thoughts about base building

I rambled on for a few paragraphs and made some awesome points but decided to shoot at the heart of what we know about basebuilding. Barricading will more than likely be rather easy to break through (this is DayZ not some mod after-all) and will more than likely be used to prep and setup ambushes for other players. Most gear will remain stashed in the woods in barrels or buried chests. That's not really a bad thing. Bigger bases using some of the assets we've seen on trello would allow larger groups to setup temporary trading zones as they're always super popular among communities. Yes, they'll eventually be broken into while that team is offline but players will know this and not store gear in those structures. We need to know what is planned for barricading/base-building and weapon economy before guessing as to how hard it'll be to break into them.

    ZOMBIES!!

Exaggerating an issue makes your question seem more like a slant against the devs. I've never had a zombie hit me from 100 feet away. I've also had no issue with hit registration but I use first person when attacking them. And as Odin, and Status Reports, have said the sound side of the engine is having a complete rework. I wouldn't worry too much about that until the new system is merged to at least experimental when I'd start filing bug reports to the feedback tracker if I was having issues.

    "Bumblebee" PLANE: Specs & Discussion

Mad Max will haunt this genre to it's dying day... 60 years from now when teleportation of molecular structures becomes a reality and all the dystopian air flight systems become a silly inside joke, we'll look back at all of this as a quaint concept of the apocalypse.

    "Bumblebee" PLANE: Specs & Discussion

I like that takeoff distance for sure. It could actually be useful. But.. uhh.. I don't see how two people will fit in it.

Stalking a player with the improvised bow

I don't know where you are. I don't know what you'd rather eat. If you are looking for food, I can tell you I don't have beans, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long DayZ career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let the bambis go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you, and I'll leave your loot-less corpse for the infected.

    New stuff on Trello

It's probably easier to just build your own map as I imagine you may even want to remove roads? Many of the older tutorials can get you to a fresh terrain pretty quickly and there are community made tools to help you place trees/brush/grass etc very quickly. At least with this method you wouldn't have large areas where towns or roads obviously once stood with large grass-less squares and strips running all over the place that are configured to play different sounds depending on where the character is runnning. You're really better off making your own and save yourself a lot of trouble.

I see no proof of you leaving the meat. You are now on my hunted list. I do this out of love.

    New stuff on Trello

Are you trying to have a map free of building assets? or are you trying to remove certain structures?

    South Barracks or South Compound?

That happens to us all, especially when we're new. Even in the mod it took a while for people to learn common building slang (streamers made it a bit more common but taste in streamers still vary), and proper use of the compass. Now, it's even harder. I don't think this is a bad thing at all. It's part of the magic. Man, if I had a dime for every time someone said the "red brick building" but meant the common orange brick building I'd have money to pay off my parking fines.
  23. Let's see.. (pardon I know this post is oldish but).. Perhaps buy a new card? Look, I feel the pain of having to fork out for a new card, welcome to PC gaming? I'm juggling the decision between dual 480's, a 1070, or try to play 'match the hicks' and buy a 1080 for the price of a nice mountain bike that doesn't fall apart after a few months of nonstop riding. Even a basic 480 (at 200-ish bux) is better than both of our cards. Any cards under-performing the 1070 are about to drop in price like insane (once stock levels start to drop and the manufacturers can keep up with current demand) so you're looking at 100-200 bucks for a card that can outperform both of our setups for practically nothing. Any number of us could come up with 2 bills if we REALLY wanted. It's just about what is important to you. Whining about a game finally upgrading to next gen tech or selling that crap in your garage/attic/closet and putting in 5-10 hours of overtime is kind of silly. :/ Just saying bro. It sucks but, again, welcome to PC gaming. We have to upgrade. Just be grateful we can and we're not console scrubs stuck waiting for some overpriced rehash of the same system with more memory with a new brand name slapped on it. Shit man, you had 2.5 years (if actual time, you didn't pay shit for the game) of experiences for practically nothing. If you want to be a PC gamer accept what comes with it and buy in.
  24. I understand the frustration but a dx11 card can be purchased for about the price of the game itself.

    Is DayZ a disappointment?

I expect development and development is what I got. (though the butthurt over the long coming .60 build is semi-understandable) I do not expect a game with an engine in development to be a "blast".
