The first few hours are the best but gathering loot up north can be just as difficult as you start looking for specific gear, not just any ratty hoodie with four pockets and the first M4 you see. You can waste your ammo on zeds and potentially alert other survivors or you can take an axe to the zeds and risk infections. Something that might happen often enough to drive real survivors into northern hospitals for the essentials. The diseases can wreck you as well and compared to how they worked before, we're all having an easy time of it. There's also the coming impacts of weather on your gear and risk of illnesses from the cold. There's a lot they can do to make life just as hard for those of us up north as it is on the coast (of a server that isn't reset every hour).

I do. It forces players to survive rather than mindlessly hunt fresh spawns and it also keeps people from sprinting to NW or back to their bodies with nothing more than a flashlgiht. I find the aspect of trying to survive quite enjoyable and needing to find food and drink right away gives us an additional challenge to overcome. If it was up to me we'd all spawn even hungrier, thirstier, and barefoot.

the food and drink work fine. When you spawn on the coast you're already hungry. Think of it as if you had a light supper the night before the zombie outbreak and you somehow skipped breakfast as well.

There is no way you can say all future guns are going to be military grade. The goal is/was to have a central server control the loot globally.

I think a lot of you are getting a little too focused on how the loot is handled right this instant. This can change from update to update. And there's no reason to remove the barracks at all. Reduction in M4 availability will likely take place as other weapons are introduced. Reduction in ammo on the coast would almost certainly solve the pvp so it's silly to demand the barracks removal. Strangely, after a few hours of a servers life, it's really hard to find M4's and ammo. Where are you guys playing? On one of those 24/7 daylight servers or one that gets reset every hour?

Nah, leave them. No one MUST go there and if you don't want to play with the KoS kiddies then leave the coast. Let the deathmatchers have their fun. Moving them north would only spread the KoS plague and ruin everyone else's game.

Wow. I disagree with everything OP has said. I just... wow. I personally love the game and how it's setup and want the medical and health system to be even more hardcore. Same goes for the attachment system and all the various gear with the various slots and carrying capacity. I guess I come from a different background but I cannot understand why so many people are so obsessed with the "endgame". I find that entire concept far more boring than actually playing the game.

You can't make a generalized statement like that. I've found countless guns and I don't immediately think 'great, now i can kill people on the coast!' And yes, it does stop people from killing others when the type of people that want to deathmatch can't even leave the coast. So it seems to be working at the moment. Oh, and you made a great argument for keeping weapons extremely rare to reduce kos.

The people that want to kill me are going to have to earn it. That means they're going to need to have at least some basic med skills and the gear to get to me. It seems to be stopping the type of KoS I want to avoid as that's all taking place on the coast.

Yeah. 1) It sounds like you were near the coast. Two buddies chatting it up on the coast are NOT going to be friendly. 2) You snuck up on them and it sounds like you remained out in the open. I would have taken cover and watched them for a good amount of time if I really needed their help or let them see me from a distance and then observe their actions. Think of Chernarus as a big ghetto. You wouldn't randomly walk up and say "hi" to complete strangers in a rough neighborhood would you?

Just for the heck of it, make sure your gamma and brightness isn't cranked up. :D If not, then it's definitely your blood level.

Yes, you move slower but your thirst/hunger is reduced much slower from my experience. I'm almost certain the majority of people passing out were sprinting non-stop like this was the mod.

That is the only logical conclusion.

Don't sprint. Meeting up is harder which I personally don't mind atm.

This does not currently work for the handgun. I've done it countless times with the Mosin before. Never tried to do with the m4 though.
