Not going to give you a hard time. However, it's not possible as the game requires a unique, genuine cd-key for each player. If you even try to connect with the same genuine cd-key you are auto-kicked. IMO, if you are a gaming enthusiast at all, this mod is well worth your $30 on Steam, money is really tight for me right now and I do not regret my purchase. You can get by with just ARMA 2 Free and OA for $20 but it's worth the extra $10 for high-res textures and less installation headache. The Amazon.com $15 deal has been dead since Wednesday, not to mention that Rocket specifically asked us not to purchase it.

2 different characters on same PC with different STEAM accounts.
jonaswashe replied to xcryonic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It does work like this. When you run Arma 2, Steam writes the current user's cd-key to the registry so that you can seamlessly transition between your character and your brother's simply by switching steam accounts. -
I logged in and my character was in hourglass mode?
jonaswashe replied to WatchOut (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
You logged out while in combat. There's a shock meter above your status that appears if you get attacked by a player or zombie, if you log out during shock you spawn unconscious when you log back in. I've had shock apply to me at random times when I wasn't being attacked so this could happen without you intentionally logging out while being attacked. -
Two Copies of Arma 2 in expansions folder. HELP!
jonaswashe replied to zanep0's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Sounds like there may be some registry keys left over. Check the keys at the following location and make sure everything adds up: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio] -
Suddnely started spawning in a empty field
jonaswashe replied to Sminky's topic in New Player Discussion
You are off the map. Run east and you will find the map again. If you don't know how to find east, look up, the clouds always blow east. -
Do not use the mod that MessHall posted, it will not work. From the Mod Creator's site: NOTE: This mod does not work with ArmA 2 v1.02 or newer, you can disable the postprocessing from video options now. Not to mention the servers would probably auto-kick you for using a mod.

Re-download and re-install the DayZ mod files and the problem should be resolved. -
Two Copies of Arma 2 in expansions folder. HELP!
jonaswashe replied to zanep0's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Sounds like you have fragments of the previous Arma 2 hanging around. Completely uninstall Arma 2 and OA, delete any remaining files from the hard drive manually and then do a fresh re-install of everything. Are you using the Steam, Retail or Amazon version? -
Edit your post title to "Using Arma 2 Free: Arma 2 CO won't start" and you will get an answer faster. There's very little support for using Arma 2 Free here. Most people will tell you to buy the main game as well, both to support the devs, and for the better textures. If I knew the answer I would tell you, but I ended up buying ArmA 2 for the reasons I just listed.

Tychi, What is the exact error message you are getting? Have you changed your registry keys to point to the new location? (Ramdrive) If not, this is probably your problem. The following two keys should be updated for entries Main and Data, if present: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA] "MAIN"="C:\\Program files\\Bohemia Interactive\\ArmA 2" "DATA"="C:\\program files\\Bohemia Interactive\\ArmA 2\\Expansion" Change them to whatever your Ram Drive and folder location are. ie. "MAIN"="R:\\Arma 2" "DATA"="R:\\Arma 2\\Expansion" Are you using symbolic links instead? Those can be tricky to set up correctly and you're better off copying the bigger files over and making file links rather than folder links since this game uses security software. (BattlEye)

Addon 'dayz_code' requires addon on 'CABuildingparts'
jonaswashe replied to N3vDawg's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You also need the base game to play DayZ, you can use Arma 2 free, but that will require some extra leg work, and you will have crappy textures. As far as the CABuildingparts issue, please refer to the sticky guide to get the Amazon.com version working in combined ops. -
Need help with Amazon version.. unable to play.
jonaswashe replied to Dynami's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Please refer to the sticky topic: [GUIDE] Amazon.com version: How to get it working http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=4119 Your problem is caused by Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead being separate and therefore not Combined Operations. While copying the files from the addons directory will get you into Day Z, it doesn't actually fix the underlying problem and can cause more issues and headaches in the future. As the link I posted says, install Amazon Arma 2 and OA in the same directory and then run the 1.60 Combined Operations patch. This will fix your problems. Also, the latest hotfix patch has caused severe fps issues for many users. So we may have to wait on a fix for that to come on Thursday. -
Barbed wire + Server Hopping = Broken

Server Hopping + Loot spawns + Barbed Wire = Broken Game
jonaswashe posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I love this game, it has the potential to be excellent, heck, it already is excellent, but there's a lot that needs to change. (It's an Alpha, so I'm being very patient) For me the following is the biggest problem in the game. This game should be all about exploration and survival, instead it's become about exploiting the best loot spots. There are three issues, annoying individually, but which are together game-breaking. Problem 1: Server Hopping: This is talked about in more detail here (http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=693) In short, people are logging off to avoid death, and switching servers to get loot from the best buildings multiple times. This is an exploit. I propose a two part solution. Solution 1 (logging off): Make players who log off stay in the game for 15 seconds. This fixes the d/c bandits Solution 2 (logging off): Make every server save a players unique location, similar to how tents are handled. This may not be feasible as I imagine it would increase server load. However, this would drastically cut down on loot camping and stop people sneaking into areas on another server and popping up behind you to kill you. Both are exploits. Even so, while this solution makes it more difficult to loot exploit, people who want to can just walk to the best buildings on every server individually and still pop in and grab things. So this solution will only work in conjunction with more randomized loot spawn, so that no one building is a prized location. I understand that Rocket set loot up to spawn in a logical, intuitive manner, the problem is that, because of that the best loot spawns in one spot on the map, specifically in two building that are only on the map in this area. This leads to people blocking the doorway(s) with barbed wire and switching servers to collect their loot. I've only been able to vault over barbed wire a small portion of the time I've encountered it, so I think something is bugged there. I should also point out here that the current best military building only has one doorway, and is therefore a honey pot for barbed wire server-jumping exploiters. Problem 2: Loot spawn Solution (loot): Fix loot spawns. Make more randomly generated loot spawns like the crashed heli is going to be for each loot class (Medical, Rural, Military) Make the best loot less common but have a chance to show up in more of its building types. If possible, make loot get gradually better as you leave the shore and head inland, but don't centralize it. Problem 3: Barbed Wire Solution 1 (barbed wire): If loot spawns and server jumping is fixed this will not be as much of an issue. I feel that barbed wire should block zombies but humans should be able to cross it like a fence. This would stop people from exploiting rare loot areas, but still leave the wire's purpose intact. Solution 2 (barbed wire): You need a toolbox to remove barbed wire. Barbed wire is extremely common while toolboxes are uncommon/rare. Either make toolboxes more common, or allow anyone to remove barbed wire without a toolbox. TL;DR: Loot camping, barbed-wire toting, server jumpers are breaking this game. I'm interested to hear what others think about this issue. Any ideas on how to deal them? Thanks. -
There are some issues the can pop up with getting the Amazon.com version working, I cover them here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=4119

You'll have to run the game outside of steam. Follow normal installation procedure for ArmA 2 for Steam. Run it once. Install OA into the same directory as ArmA 2: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 Run OA once. Run the 1.60 patch: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=15831 Follow the retail installation guide from here. (ie. create shortcut of Arma2OA.exe, add -mod=@DayZ to the Target line of the shortcut after the quotation marks): "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2\arma2oa.exe" -mod=@DayZ Then you should be good to go. Always run from the shortcut.
-
This happens when you log off during Shock. Shock is the white icon that looks like two plugs on the status bar above the green symbols and is triggered during combat.
-
Your DayZ mod files are either not in the correct location, or you did not add -mod=@DayZ into the startup properties of Operation Arrowhead in Steam, please check every step of the installation guide to verify which one of the two is the problem.
-
Deleted.Chernarus means that Operation Arrowhead cannot see the ArmA2 standalone installation. Meaning that Combined Operations is not working. You may need to run the 1.60 patch located here: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=15831 If the patch does not see the installation you may have to install Arma 2 and OA in the same folder depending on which version of the game you are using.

[SOLVED] HOW TO FIX AMAZON VERSION DELETE.CHERNUS ERROR
jonaswashe replied to mrjames5768's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This is a workaround, not a fix. Still a very clever workaround and will work people who just want to get DayZ going without fixing the underlying issue This problem occurs because Combined Operations is not working correctly, all you are doing is putting the data the game cannot find into a folder that Arma 2: OA knows. The fix is located here, if you want to fix the game rather than patch it up: (Which is important if you plan to play ArmA 2: CO at all http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=4119&pid=40399#pid40399 -
[GUIDE] Amazon.com version: How to get it working
jonaswashe replied to jonaswashe's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Vendetta' date=' your "solution" is just a recap of steps 7-9 in this post and on the main install thread. In fact the thread you linked to, links back here and asks the OP not to spam. However, since there seems to be some confusion, I edited steps 7-9 to be as crystal clear as possible. mrjames5768, that is just a jury-rigged work around for the real problem and will actually break ArmA 2 if the user moves the files, and take up extra disc space if the user copies them. Still I suppose it could work if you're tired of fixing a bad install. -
I've had very weird graphical issues when running ArmA 2 on my GTX 460 2x SLI setup. The game is just really hard on graphics cards. Try updating your graphics drivers, and just know that ArmA's engine is like a Cardio Stress Test for your gpu. And yes, I've had Chrome and even youtube videos freak out the GPU while ArmA2 is running in the background.

deleted.cacharacters.pmc problem ?!
jonaswashe replied to AnkMyrandor's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This means your pmc dlc isn't working. We need more information to help you. You probably just need to run the PMC dlc once to allow the installer to de-encrypt the files. -
How to join and play with friends?? (help?)
jonaswashe replied to Dat Dere Celltech's topic in New Player Discussion
This has already been answered multiple times so feel free to check the forums searching for "Threads" that contain the word "friends". In short, you need to join the same server and find a place to meet up along the coast. There is no "join game" or grouping function if that is what you are asking. As for easy ways to meetup, I answered that in a thread in the past couple days, you can even click on my name and check for a post about meeting up with friends. -
Spawning in debug forest (west of Pavlovo?) no matter what
jonaswashe replied to fish muffin's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Definitely sounds like your character is broken on the database side, problem is you're getting slotted in with the people who don't read the forums and complain about the real "debug forest". Sounds to me like you need a dev to reset your character by hand. You might try tweeting the DayZ Dev team twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/dayzdevteam Make sure that when you contact them you specify that this isn't the same Debug Forest issue others are experiencing. Again, you have a problem that sounds like it's on the master server side and probably needs dev attention but you aren't getting attention because you problem is too similar to a common issue.
