Best idea ever. Implement this in standalone, please.

I think you're confusing ego with hubris, homie. Infection taking hold in survivors untouched by the "first wave" could be explained by proposing that the airborn virus is not as potent as having it introduced into your bloodstream via a puncture wound. I'm pretty sure that Dean's brother has considered this sort of stuff and then some. Anyway, good thing to have an ongoing conversation about. I'd really enjoy having to burn rubber to the military hospital because my friend was turning, only to have him maul me from the back seat. What a way to go.

Best idea ever. Implement this in standalone, please.

Getting bit having a chance to infect you, forcing you to find an antidote in time, and possibly becoming a zed is a good idea. I wouldn't call it your idea as it has been suggested numerous times, but it remains a good idea in my opinion. It could offer players interesting problems, and interesting problems are what drive the game outside of hoarding/deathmatching extremes. There really should be a possible situation where you have to put down a friend. It's just not a complete zombie story generating program if that never happens.
  3. Zombies could stand to be tougher. Everything I've seen from the SA indicates that they want zombies to pose a greater threat. I think one of the best ways to do this would be to allow them to grab hold of you, and momentarily detain/slow you until you can kill it or break free. This would make training a whole town to hit the richest loot spots more challenging. Even after so much practice at it, I'll still turn a corner and have a zombie up in my grill while training a town. Usually they will take an ineffevive swing at me as I fly by, As long as effective use of the W key can nullify the threat of zombies entirely, they will continue be more of an annoyance than a real danger. Shots should draw zombies to the point that staking out a sniping position in an urban area should be suicide once you've fired your weapon. Within 5 minutes your position should be swarmed. The first thing a player should think after killing somebody with a gun in one of these formerly populated areas is, "I better get the fuck out of here".

    This game hates me

I'd definitely use Commander rather than Steam.

Three bullets in the chest, the tale of today.

I've come to the opinion that shit being at its worst is when the game is at its best. Sometimes an impossible situation works out, and when it does that's a priceless feeling of gratification. A glorious death is worth as much as an entire life when it comes to a story. It's a bushidoish, vikingy life this survivor business. I don't know you, but games like this need people like you. You do fill a rare but critical role in the ecosystem. Not many people have a code that extends beyond their own self-interest, online or not. I don't know about those guys, but if I had a pistol and was looking at an M14 and no hero skin I might have shot myself, and generally I don't KOS at all. It would probably hinge on what had unfolded previous in my gaming session. If those guys had drawn any fire at all within the last 30 minutes it could have been a case of mistaken identity.

    Bullet wounds are horribly unrealistic

Bro, totally agree. And there's no breathing or Alzheimer's disease either. Not to mention there's reincarnation bullshit that is totally not real because your soul appears in the body of some fully grown beach goer. And no smells? C'mon, that's an entire one of the six senses and utterly excluded from this "authentic experience". Who do I contact to get my money back?
  8. I'm glad they are just upgrading the current map. I love this fucked up little country. That said, I'd be shocked if there were not more maps in the works for the SA down the road.

    Z's in the wilderness

Nice to get a chance for some target practice during those long runs.

What Have you Expected DayZ to be?

I expected it to be a nifty mod that I could invest a few nights into and call it done so I could finish Skyrim. Wrong.

    Worst Weapon In Dayz -Vote

Shotgun gets enough style points to put it over crowbar.

Always killed when sneaking to NWAF

I'm always a little shocked when I can get in and out of NWAF without drawing some fire, assuming the server isn't a ghost town. At least snipers up there aren't down on the coast picking off the flashlight patrol.
  14. It's a "sandbox" game. People are going to play in different ways for different reasons. At the end of the day it comes down to how much fun you get out of the experience, and that's entirely subjective. So, there is a group of players who don't like to fight other players. Okay. Not like there aren't a lot of servers to choose from.

    Killed by a rock

I got killed by a tent once. If losing your gear is a deal breaker for you this isn't your scene.
  16. The truth is if you want a stellar gaming laptop you'll have to pay a lot for it. The more juice the graphics features pull the hotter it will get, and that will mean it will not have as long a lifespan as a desktop. The idea of a gaming laptop is kinda fucked from the get-go. Translation is I would not invest a bunch of money in that sort of thing. Arma2 and DayZ aren't exactly top tier graphics, though they do have some cosmetic elements that can tax a computer. Just fulfill the specs you can afford, and buy something that you will be fine with replacing in a couple of years. In my experience you can spend $700 or 3k on a "gaming" laptop, and in a couple of years you will be back in the market. If that alienware is the best deal you can find, go for it. Or, if you want to be cool go down to the last computer store in your town and see if the guy there can come up with something cheaper/better. The question of who assembles the Chinese parts and slaps a logo on them is a little irrelevant. I have met some interesting guys with Russian accents and Spanish names on Dell customer support.
  17. Ravioligate was just nature. I mean, I thought it was silly, but I can also admit that the cans did look a little overdone. I think the people who freaked out were the kind of people entertained by freaking out, and the rest of us who are chill are just as numerous. People disagree, but props to the dev team for being responsive to the community. It's not an entirely bad thing to throw the whinging outrage artists a bone now and again.

Zombies? What zombies? This is pure PvP.

It's zombies. Zombies are easy to deal with if you're armed and cautious. People in zombie films die because they are stupid, just like in DayZ mod. If you have yet to be in a firefight that was made complicated by zombie presence that just tells me you're green.

    My criticisms of DayZ mod/Standalone

I was really happy to see that there was no rush for holiday release of a half-ass product. Nothing but respect for the devs and for BI for letting them develop a product that the community can be proud to have been a part of. I'm generally a negative dickhead, and if I can't think of anything bad to say about something it's probably pretty legit.

Zombies spawning in the middle of nowhere

I've only encountered single walkers so far out in the wilderness.

    Is DayZ really an alpha?

Primarily it is a mod, and is not working towards a finished final product. So it will always be in testing. My understanding is that it's now more of a lab for things they want to try out. "Alpha" may be a little too specific though.

    1.7.6 Cans and Drinks

I don't get it either. I know it wasn't intended, but I'd much rather have the names of the people who helped this project take wing get winks than advertising for shitty corporations. I don't buy much canned food, and I don't generally drink soda. Yet I'll be damned if I haven't seen those red cans and thought to myself, "damn a coke sounds pretty good right now". If it had been a marketing strat pulled off by one of these companies it would have been 2012's most brilliant advertising coup. Luckily, advertising execs are subhumans who are barely conscious enough to remember their toothbrush isn't for cleaning their asses, so no way was this inadvertent commercialism was intended. I envy anybody who lives in a world tranquil enough for the change to cause ripples. If it breaks your immersion carry water and hunt. It's better for you anyway.

    Something I JUST noticed!

In a legitimate zombie apocalypse, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

    Dying for stupid reasons

You sound like a filthy dirty liar to me.
  25. The reason you keep the can is because a can is useful if you have no silenced weapon and need another way to keep from getting detected. Throw can. Zombie hears. Goes to can and stops going towards you. Alternately, you can shoot him with your shotgun, aggro the whole town, run into a building, and get killed. Then come to the forums and complain about hard zombies. If you don't want the fucking can drop it. Fact is after you eat a can of pasta what you have left is a can minus pasta. A resourceful player knows that a can is sometimes a better survival tool than a gun.
