Differences of realism as IRL and game. (M4 Accuracy)
svenbreakfast replied to mark3236 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Like I mentioned, my rifle has been very accurate. I'm clowning this fool because saying "what the fuck I paid for this and it doesn't work the way I think it should" and "this fix would take LITERALLY seconds, but the devs choose to ignore it" (paraphrasing) just has no place in the discussion at this point. I just think that tone is stupid, especially at this stage of development. If you don't call out clowns clowns will run rampant. -
Shoot, it must just come down to taste. I fucking loved the soundtrack, and I really hope they source the same artist to do some new music for the SA, or just stick with the mod score. Bleak menacing ambient for the win. After playing the mod for a long time, hearing those songs makes chemicals move around in my brain.

He works in fractions of seconds actually. There has been improvement since this thread kicked off. I don't get the issue. I've hit everything I've shot at up to aprox. 200m. Could be he just moves too fast. I generally take around 3 seconds to line up a target, which is three times the amount of time it would take to just fix the guns so you don't have to know how to aim to hit stuff. -
Anyone I see in a payday mask I'm going to assume is a bandit. I'm not sure why, maybe it's because I kinda feel like only a kid would be wearing that shit.

I just had a horrible experience (serious discussion).

I agree this sounds awesome. Usually up close I'll just tell the person to freeze and take it from there. I don't KOS not really because I feel for people, but because the game is much more interesting- especially at this stage of the game where there's not much to do outside of interacting with others. The main reason I love DayZ is that it gets inside your head, and I think this is do to the simulator vibe it has. Especially when that bleak ambient music is playing. It's also a game where you have time to think. -
I've not found morphine yet. I'd just respawn.

Hang tight. We've increased efficiency from a literal second to now mere fractions of seconds. C'mon man, you're too fun. -

I think you need to stop chatting in the forums and get your ass to Prague. You are the white knight the dev team has been praying for. Just make sure they don't pay you hourly since you "code" so fast. -
I've met about 5 people, all friendly so far.

What you just described is what you consider coding? -

Ok. I see what's going on here. Take some advice and cut your losses now. You've spent your money on a product that is not for you. Also look up the term "literally". -
I've not seen a revolver or a shotgun. Personally I've yet to come across a mag for the .45 either. Seems like everywhere I go there's an M4 and a .45 though. I wish they had used the AK rather than M4 as the weapon to start alpha with. All these M4s make me feel like I'm in Michigan.

You're thinking about this way too much at this stage of the development. -
The game is more boring once you stabilize your needs. At this stage if getting bored is what you're worried about maybe put it down until more improvements are implemented. Once you get your rifle and basic gear only there is not much beyond that at this point aside from fucking with or helping other players.

Surviving way too easy for veterans
svenbreakfast replied to DerrocK (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Survival has always been pretty easy for vets. Once you know the map, and know where to go and get whatever you need, long as you stay low, it's pretty much just a matter of running there. I don't know for sure, but it seems like we're a ways off from the difficulty tuning stage of the game. -
I miss the old dayz..

Yeah just join a server w/o starter gear. What are you, helpless? -
Zombie hugging is long and tiring.

Sometimes, when I know I'm gonna die, I don't. -
Yeah, I'd like to see guns/ammo be a lot more rare too. Even more rare than say DayZ+. It would be cool if every 9mm mag you found was a big score. I'd be fine, shitty as it may be as a main weapon, to run around with a double-barrel for a week before finding my first AK. I think the game would be in a perfect state of balance when people have to ask themselves, "Is this worth a bullet?". Rocket has said that The Road was part of his inspiration when making the mod. Bullets being precious is a big part of that story.
-
Has the genre even been truly born in as a consumer product? Bit early to say it's dying considering. Seems to me it's been in testing for a year with one cheap Russian knock-off having made it out of beta (or so they claim). I started playing again and messing around with some of the new mods of the mod. Immersion and atmosphere are still there. I get sniped or meet KOS people from time to time, but I've had way more friendly/neutral interactions that I used to back in June of last year. Could be your personal interest in the mod is just waning.

Not played dayz, and i love it!
svenbreakfast replied to kyleford2013's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That computer will mash up DayZ. If you have Arma2 just get DayZ Commander and download the mod. It's so easy its almost effortless. DayZ mod is an experience onto itself, and a good way to entertain yourself while getting a handle on the fundamentals of how the game is played. -
Standalone Zombies a bit OTT?
svenbreakfast replied to victusmortuus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll take fast deadly smart zombies over slow impotent and stupid. I can always be more careful to combat the former, but in the case of the latter there is no fix. That said, as long as they can't run you down in a straight up sprint there will almost always be an out to any situation. -
It is worth it. Provided you can afford to buy a game right now, Arma2+DayZ is as good a gaming dollar as you can spend. It is a mod and there are rough edges, but there is a good reason why this mod has been so successful. Despite bugs and hackers I still have fun playing, where as I finished XCom and deleted it. Besides, if you plan on ever buying the full game practical experience will be what separates the wolves from the sheep come launch day.

Best idea ever. Implement this in standalone, please.

pretty weak troll -
I just quit any starting gear server I come across, but in a way I'm glad they are out there. It alerts me right off that bat that the players there are probably not the types I'd like to hang with. I always just assume those servers are for the cherno/elektro deathmatchers. I like having to scrape things together and establishing a fresh spawn. I like having to brave a town with low blood and half a mak mag because I need to find matches. Those are the moments when PvE becomes most interesting.
