Why does everyone I run into kill me?
svenbreakfast replied to capt. beefsteak's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm not a KOS player, but in a military installation with your gun out chances are you're going to get popped if you're spotted. The trick is to make sure you see them first, and never interact with somebody unless you have the advantage. My mod character has 450+ days survived, and while the vast majority of that was me not playing a lot of it was in game, running routes in the east every day with the occasional NWAF trek. -
Not sure I'm comfortable knowing people this edgy are wandering around.

Why would anyone subject themselves to being taken hostage?
svenbreakfast replied to superkyle's topic in General Discussion
To see what happens. Gotta be as interesting as eating canned sardines in a broke down house. -
Yeah. Two different products.

Does any one else feel burnt out already?
svenbreakfast replied to scaramoosh's topic in General Discussion
No, because I paid money to be part of the DayZ alpha test. The idea of burnout isn't even on the table yet. -
One bullet between my eyes was all it took to tech me to always play DayZ with my mic on. Can't blame the guy. I was squirrely.

How can we make a players life more important than his gear?
svenbreakfast replied to knawx's topic in General Discussion
If you get DayZ you will realize that having something to lose is the hump when the game moves from unadulterated fun into a paranoid mind fuck. The only thing better than getting all you think you need and finding yourself wondering if certain risks are worth it is the release of being on the beach with nothing to lose. I think after a few epic runs most experienced players realize this. Thinking anything is "your" gear is the first step towards missing the point of this exercise imo. -
This is an alpha test.

This is a really really bad ducking game
svenbreakfast replied to mark3236 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I suppose this is basically what's going to happen to these forums. Endless discussion of things that have already been endlessly discussed, with acute bouts of manchildren who don't realize they are playtesters. -
Would work. Like in Everquest, /camp.

5 second delay for your body to despawn should split the difference. Not going to help with ghosting, or somebody finding momentary cover and vanishing though. Still, the combat loggers that really piss me off are the ones who do it face to face.

Dean Hall is the Einstein of game dev
svenbreakfast replied to Frost20's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Kinda a young Einstein -
Developers lied, hackers can teleport players.
svenbreakfast replied to vegetavegeta's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
duh duh duh The fuck, what's up with the title man? -
Part of it sounds like you're not accounting for the fact that this alpha is still in a primitive state, and part of this sounds like the game may not be for you. The map is a place not a theme park.

Server hopping is killing this game FAST
svenbreakfast replied to phoboss's topic in General Discussion
Server hopping is being addressed. It's been discussed for years.Your title makes you sound like a baby. -
I've sworn off ladders of any kind for now.

Why do you "have" to feel bad for being a bandit/kos?
svenbreakfast replied to Nesuma (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Without any KOS players the game would lose not only its realism, but also that sense of danger that keeps you immersed. I don't play like that generally, but there are situations where I'll shoot first. I wouldn't feel bad about it, but if the best thing you can think of to do to another player is shoot them you're not being very creative. You can rob people, scare the shit out of them, hold them up, handcuff them, force feed them rotten fruit, send them out in front of you as a decoy, or do a Balota fight club type of thing. Shit, I've forced people to listen to me sing. It's a sandbox game, and how interesting interaction is is totally in the hands of the players. It takes more balls to interact than it does to just shoot. I try to play as a more interesting encounter, and if I think about somebody talking to their friend the next day about the crazy experience they had in DayZ the night before it makes the risk worth it. Worst that can happen is I'm back at the beach with something to actually do again. KOS as your blanket philosophy just makes your own experience that much more uninteresting in my opinion. It's not wrong at all though, just a little unsophisticated. -
Should it be easier to keep fed/hydrated?
svenbreakfast replied to Clumzy (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I think hunger goes a bit fast, even given that we're running. Marathon runners don't stop to skull a can of beans every 30 minutes. I do like that it is an ever present factor, just feel hunger is a little bit too aggressive at the moment. -
Adding loot to apartment buildings
svenbreakfast replied to roadlesstraveled's topic in General Discussion
I just want that good old barn loot back. -
It's not really a game yet, and unless you're into running around trying to find bugs there's not much to do once you have a gun. I'd suggest playing the mod, which is more functional at this point. Knowing the map is a huge advantage to have, and ARMA2 is like 7 bucks right now.

SUGGESTION: Ability to spin chamber to force hostages to play Russian roulette.

Has there been any talk of a forced fellatio feature? -
How to change a KOS'er mentality?
svenbreakfast replied to blurhitz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Find them, get the drop on them, handcuff them, force feed them rotten fruit, and tell them they have 20 seconds to be out of LOS. Getting that to happen is the SA endgame for me at the moment. -
Rocket When did the Apocalypse Happen ?
svenbreakfast replied to YZ250's topic in General Discussion
I always imagine it must have happened 6 months to a year ago. Obviously there was a massive battle and then some kind of viral thing happened and everything got fucked. Usually while I'm running I make up the story for my character's life. Best character was a UN virologist who had been out on a boat for a while- torn to bits in a pine forest in broad daylight. One was a reporter who had been holed up in an apartment building- sniped. The longest running character was one I figured was from the ARMA2 story mode- still operational. I might write who I am on paper and carry it around so that bandits can know they killed the father of 15 handless children who was just out trying to find some hooks. -
After reading here I took a lot of long shots tonight with a pristine acog and was good out to about 400 meters beyond which I would miss more often but never twice. I'm not the world's greatest shot at all, but it didn't feel broken to me. * I should note that I was in good health, satiated, and not winded

Differences of realism as IRL and game. (M4 Accuracy)
svenbreakfast replied to mark3236 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Totally agree with this. I was under the impression that M4s were going to be super rare, and military rifles very very rare. That said, it's the first week of an alpha with more warnings on the box than a pack of cigarettes. I'm certain this is just a temporary implementation they made so they can work on maintaining FPS with a map full of players, objects, and zombies.
