I could see some sort of "practice makes perfect" system, totally invisible, which made it so that you got slightly faster or more effective at various tasks. Transfusions for example, could be a task that takes a long time the first time you do it, but you gradually become better at it. There could be greater risks for medical procedures until you've had some experience at it, or fixing vehicles could be a process you need to work at a bit the first few times. That said your DayZ character is an extension of you. Rather than say " Ding! You gain a point to Stealth" you realize that running along a treeline is better than skipping across an open field. Or that sometimes the smart thing to do is leave the zombies alive and lull others into a false sense of security. Every time you respawn you level up because hopefully you're more careful not to be such a careless dumbass the next time. If I ever had to "spec" my DayZ character or the game played some little sound when I gained a new "point" I think I'd shoot my computer and take up knitting.

What, exactly, is the point of this game?
svenbreakfast replied to Zascha-Geriko's topic in General Discussion
I was playing the mod over the weekend. I found a motorcycle, and went to meet up with my friend. On the way back to my campsite we crashed and the front wheel was badly damaged. We then went to an abandoned factory to find a tire. Inside the factory we upset zombies, and barely made it out with one 9mm round left. There was no dude standing in one place for eternity with a yellow exclamation mark over his head, constantly needing a tire. I fucked up and ended up needing a tire so I went and got one. This game is all about needs, and one thing leads to another. One minute you're sneaking into a hospital looking for meds to treat sepsis, and the next you're in a shootout with some bandits, the next you're running from a hoard of zombies with your meds hoping you don't pass out before you can shake them. -
Yeah, but the diversity of the loot table is not what's being tested at the moment. Now unclinch your fists and go to your room.

In my opinion, the current compass is an example of over-design.

I dunno, but when I'm hiking and need to get my bearings I take my compass out of my pocket, stand still, and use it. -
This is not what I hoped DayZ would be
svenbreakfast replied to andrestor's topic in General Discussion
Well you're not playing DayZ, you're alpha testing it. For lots of testers there is really nothing to do aside from shoot at others. No tents, loot tables are bare bones, no cars, zombies are not even a little bit challenging, ect. It's alpha, and you know this. There are currently for the mod, and I'm sure will be for the SA, "no pvp" servers. I checked one out this weekend and it was almost too friendly. Shit still goes down, but the violators of the policy (no stealing, no player killing) were promptly banned. Personally I play for survival, and I play careful and smart. Aside from a few AS50 sniper shots I've taken in the mod, most potential assassins never even see me. I feel your frustration, but the essence of what I'm telling you is that there are servers where people cooperate and danger from other players is minimal. -
One of the things I loved about the mod was disemboweling the mythbusters dude with my M14. Has anybody heard anything regarding the kind of variety there will be to zombie models down the road?

I was looking forward to ESO and the SA next year. One weekend of ESO and my gaming life was quickly simplified. ESO is a bad joke imo.

How's everyone's DayZ experience's so far, since she's been released?

It's been fun. I've been in some classic tangles, survived, and really enjoyed all the new features/hints at upcoming featyres. Enterable houses is great and makes the whole map much more interesting. I love the fact that there are running streams. The increased complexity of medical treatment is promising. Even simple shit like being able to load mags and handcuff fools is great. All that said, I've been playing the mod quite a bit when the limitations of the current alpha SA get boring. The mod is more fun than ever at the moment for me. -
A couple nights ago I got sick of not being able to see over my shoulder and dropped my mountain backpack. I decided that hoarding everything I needed on my back was less fun than having to find food when I ran through what I could keep in my pockets. Today myself and a couple of friends got jumped at NWAF. We were running a little bit sloppy and deserved it really. The enemy did not see me however, and once I got my weapon up all I had to do was look for their three giant backpacks bobbing through the grass and shoot. It was like a daylight thermal scope. Had they not had those ridiculous things on it would have taken me longer to orient myself and they would have had time to react to a third party they had not been aware of. If you must to carry a bunch of shit with you, I think the smart call is a hunting backpack.

Those slagging the .22 are only exposing their lack of experience outside of digital simulators. Seriously, you know nothing Jon Snow.

I really wish they had launched with maks and shotguns.

I've been dying for a can of black spray paint. If you ditch the pack for stealth the next thing you notice is your bright yellow axe.

Last thing I need in this game is a neighbor.

Why are we making it harder to be friendly??

Do you think the WOUNDING SYSTEM is realistic enough?
svenbreakfast replied to theshooter's topic in General Discussion
I didn't think there was one yet. -
Do you think now zombies are a threat?
svenbreakfast replied to blurhitz's topic in General Discussion
Zombies punish the careless. -
It won't go on sale. Honestly at this point it's just not a game. It's fun, but it's not a full game at all. That said, considering the success of the alpha thus far, DayZ is going places, and it will never be cheaper than it is now. Well, maybe in 2016 it will be on sale or something.

How not to Rage losing a fully equipted character
svenbreakfast replied to GenericSurvivor's topic in General Discussion
DayZ will always translate to a novella entitled "The Shit I Did Before I Died". As much as it ever feels like you have something to lose, you never have anything to lose. One story ends and a new one begins. There's no progression in DayZ, just calm and then chaos. If you're lucky you survive the chaos a few times. -
[EMT] Post Here If Needing Help In-game
svenbreakfast replied to Pvt Dolin's topic in General Discussion
The thinking man's endgame. Aside from being a cool guy and helping people, this playstyle also gives you a definite mission or quest to accomplish. Plus with the new medical subtleties in game, the profession seems like it's already way more compelling than before. -
I dunno if this would be good for my sanity on ocrift.

All you're saying is you are a terrible shot. The M4 fires a round that arcs first up and then down. Your problem could be overcompensating for bullet drop. After my buddy told me this I'm good out to about 500m, though often with two rounds at that range. Also I move slowly and avoid getting winded. The M4 is just the rifle they released alpha with. This is going to change.

Why is the world of dayz so static ?
svenbreakfast replied to pogosphere's topic in General Discussion
There's a reason Elder Scrolls Online looks like Fallout3, because it's a massive multiplayer game. There's a lot more going on in a DayZ world than any MMO you might play. Just having all that shit going on at once is what we're currently testing. Just cuz you say "I KNOW IT'S AN ALPHA BUT W/E" doesn't change the fact that it's an alpha. -
We need an auto delete function that removes threads after a certain threshold of key words have been entered.

.22 would be my gun of choice for apocalypse for sure
