I wish that style were something bandits cared about. I love dying in this game. There is no part of my characters' life cycles that I find more gratifying that starting from scratch, and trying to get that initial foothold. I like buttoning up a character's story, and I don't place any importance on my gear. The more inconvenience the more fun I have. Death by any means is as welcome to me as finding a chopper crash. Every time I've been killed by a bandit it's been a sniper. I've never gone down in a firefight, and the few times that scenario presented itself, the guy in the ghillie disappears the second the footing is not 100% in his or her favor. A lot of bandits like to flex nuts, but my personal experience is that they are kinda chickenshit when it comes down to it. I know that my personal experience isn't representative of anything but my personal experience. I do wish that I'd run into more murderers who have a little spark of creativity. So if you see some guy named Attila creeping through the streets, do us both a favor and say something to me before you shoot, fuck with my head a little bit, maybe throw a flare at me and then lay in. I promise that I'm not that good of a shot, and we can both walk away from the experience with a little bit more of a story.

It is a great sense of personal courage to get the impulse to alt-f4 and make the choice to be a good sport- especially in the face of certain death. I'm sure there are plenty of good bandits out there who are willing to die in the name of not breaking the game too. I guess I am just unlucky to not run across them. Been in plenty of situations when I got to cover, and they had cover, and in the time it takes me to switch to my rifle the other guy just removes himself from the situation. We all agree, at least in public, that is lame. I'm a survivor player, and when I have mercy on somebody I try to do it in an interesting way. Even more enjoyable than watching a pile of pixels topple from 500m is watching somebody freak out when you say in your best Eastwood accent "freeze". Popping off a few round just over the head of another player and seeing them head for the hills is very enjoyable- and it teaches them a lesson. I don't like killing other players just because I can, but being a little creative with your mercy can apply just as much to creative murder. So I guess the same could be said to survivors, be a little bit creative, and the game becomes exponentially more interesting. Chances are you'll log in with no gear back at the beach, for whatever reason that happens, so really nobody has anything to lose.

If somebody killed me with a bike I think I'd be so satisfied I'd never log on again.
-
Yeah I understand all that. Just hoping to plant a seed in the skull of maybe one outlaw with two alpha brainwaves to rub together.

Log out in stary, log in on the coast near solnichniy.

Why I kill unarmed players
svenbreakfast replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No you don't. gtfo -
I dunno, maybe people just suck. Maybe karma is real. I've been playing like an OCD meth head for a month and haven't been hacked or ported. I just take time to select which servers I connect to. I learned to keep an eye out for gangsters on the streets though, so maybe you should spend some time in Oakland.

How the Places in Chernarus Got Their Names
svenbreakfast replied to DayZPvP.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Been reading up on the region. Sounds chill, lots of pubs or so it seems. Rocket and team should offer a sweepstakes trip there as part of the stand-alone push. If I go there though, and see one of those myth busters looking motherfuckers limping towards me fool is going to catch capz. :P -
This is already the PC game of the year, and it's the alpha of a mod on a 2 year old platform. It's the karate kid of the gaming industry. :)

Would be cool if once you have like 15 days survived you could log in either as a zombie or your character. As a survivor I don't want to go psycho and start shooting other players like me left and right, but I'd love to chase them down and eat their throats outta their necks.

Well, one thing about survival once you get your shit squared is that it's boring. Remember how dude's wife just ended up killing herself in The Road? She was depressed because the endgame was boring, and she had no hope that god or whatever would patch the world. If you're not down to become a bandit pretty much all you can do is eat, drink, kill zombies, and maybe hunt for a chopper. Still, even with all of Blizzard's resources and experience WoW's endgame gets very stale quickly. Used to mean that "endgame" meant end of game, as in turn it off because we have no more content for you. Somehow along the way that got twisted into "eternal fun and excitement". In persistent MMOs you're going to reach a point where your objectives are complete and then you are just still there. Even one of the greatest games in history, X-COM, sucked at the end. Who actually had trouble dealing with the final Mars mission? I think that while fun as hell, the alpha highlighted the concept's limitations, which seem to be in the process of being addressed in the stand-alone. So take a break if you need to, but if/when you pick it up again, I wouldn't expect it to keep you entertained in perpetuity.

What would you like to see in the stand alone?
svenbreakfast replied to NovaDose's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Did not see this in the tl;dr, but the idea of getting infected. It could follow the same mechanic as breaking a bone- there's a chance if you get hit that it will get in your blood, and you will need meds in a certain amount of time or you turn. Once turned you should become a standard mob type zombie who doesn't despawn until killed. I imagine Rocket and his bro have thought out the infection thing extensively. It doesn't have to be a monolithic challenge if you or your buddy get infected and starts to turn. Just another hazard of engaging zombies and not keeping your distance or missing a couple shots. I don't see why the "cure" should be exotic or rare. In a "real" zombie situation, even if penicillin could cure infection, getting that to everyone in time to beat the scales shifting in favor of the zeds would be a challenge. This is always a strong element in most zombie movies, so I feel it belongs in the stand alone. Just another element to add drama and flesh out stories. -
Should there be Bosses and dungeons in new standalone?
svenbreakfast replied to Darky1307's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hell no. I mean, I could see there being like a mine you could go into or something, but in the modern setting dungeons are for kinky people. -
One thing I would like to see removed from the game: NVGs
svenbreakfast replied to Kashus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was pretty happy when I finally got killed and they took my NVGs. They were a blessing and a curse, but more of a curse because I became dependent on them. Game is more atmospheric on medium gamma. -

People who run around helping strangers are naive...
svenbreakfast replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Human history would have been short and brutal with your mentality. You should read The Count of Monte Cristo. -
For me not being a murderer means that when I see a player I have the option not to ruin his session and waste his time. I have a choice I won't shoot- all bets are off if I'm in danger. I've fired warning shots and scared people. In some ways that's better than just letting them go on their ways because it sends the message "be more careful dumbfuck". I suppose some people get a rush from being dicks, and that's valid, but for me being a dick makes me feel like a dick. Feeling like a dick bums me out, because it sends me a message that I am compensating for something I need mentally at the expense of others. My dad taught me to not be a dick, and in not doing so I honor him and his line.

Why the hell are there so many guns?
svenbreakfast replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Makes sense that Russians would have Bizons, as they are as Russian as a Kalashnikov or Dragunov. I use one for awkward zed moments, and an m1911 as my main killing tool because of power and easy to stock ammo. The mag capacity means I don't have to treasure each and every round, or save them for PKs. I've found that just the sound of suppressed rounds is enough to scare many players into retreat (read alt-f4) even if you don't intend to murder them. If there is a reason why there are M4/M16's in Russia, then it would stand to reason that whoever left them around would prolly have M203s. Otherwise in terms of realism they shouldn't be around at all. We don't yet know the back story though. It could be that there was a battle in Chernarus involving American troops. I do agree though, that exotic military weapons are a bit too common, rare as they are. The variety of them is kind of fun however, even if they are mostly the same stats wise. For a game in which there isn't much to do once you have a strong hold on survival, finding a gun you've never shot can be gratifying. Any weapon that can be used to kill innocent players can also be used to defend them. The heavy weapons are a bit much for zombie hunting, but when there's a chopper terrorizing the coastal cities they can be instruments of justice and glory. Also, though I would eventually regret it I'm sure, I wish that guns had a chance to jam. -
Still think this is a good game?
svenbreakfast replied to SilverTrimm's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's not a good game. It's a good alpha test. We're not even in beta yet, and it's already playable as a quasi-game. I think somebody needs to produce a PSA or something, because this distinction does not seem to be sinking in. -
Has anyone actually successfully used a Frag Grenade?
svenbreakfast replied to Cyborg Ninja's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've successfully knocked my ass out and lost my hearing. Realistic grenades are hard :( -
Dear people thinking DayZ should be free for you...
svenbreakfast replied to Carneshiver's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can't wait to give Rocket and the crew my money. I hope there's a collectors edition with like a poster of beans so I can donate more. I might just go get some freshly minted bills and mail them in a case made of narwhal ivory. DayZ has earned my financial backing, and I'm confident that they will put my money to good use. -
Dropping DayZ like a bad habit.
svenbreakfast replied to specterm's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well articulated, but the fact remains that it is an alpha, like you indicated before you started calling it a game. You're not supposed to get anything out of it other than the active experience, and the satisfaction that you are helping make something which has amazing potential. It sounds to me like you dove into it like it was a game. It's just not a game yet, and doing anything with the expectation of permanence or progression is kinda crazy. You got a truck? Great, drive it, have fun, crash it, die. Don't try to go get another fucking truck lol. The problems are big problems, but exposing the weaknesses of the engine is part of the testing. The fact that the alpha is insanely popular isn't the dev's fault. So you didn't quit DayZ, so much as you decide you're sick of playtesting. -
Hellraisers would be good too, and Freddie.

Where are the zombie hordes?
svenbreakfast replied to ruecanonrails's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes. It would be cool if a zombie "boss" spawned. Not like a crazy dude with tentacles and a proboscis mouth. His power would be that he can wander around and spawn zombies like a player, but they would just follow him. He could have a chopper crash type loot table. So if you find him early in his trip it might be some easy high quality gear, but if you find him once he's passed through a few different towns you will need serious military equipment to deal with his gang. I think this sort of thing might give players who have all their gear something to do besides look for choppers and snipe people all day.
