    books that unlock new skills.

*get's ALLLL the pieces to fix up a car* *writing appears* YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO FIX A CAR FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! I know this sounds like a dumb response, however it's true. DayZ shouldn't have an ''unlock'' system so to speak. YOU WANNA DO THIS? UNLOCK IT! (via reading the book) YOU WANNA DO THAT? UNLOCK IT!. It's a weird one this, I know Rocket himself has proposed and thought about this one I just don't know. Personally, I read a LOT of books. As a lover of books, It would be nice to have an evening stroll with my fellow survivors, looking for the ONLY book which will allows us to cook up some food. I'm sorry, I'm sorry...it's not sarcasm. Honestly!. It's just that I love this idea, and I hate it. It's a love hate thang we got going on here. Perhaps, you can carry only one specific book at a time. Okay, so eventually you want to fix up a boat, FUCK OFF to an island and feed yourself from fish and learn how to live a self sustainable life. That to me is 2 books. One for fixing up naval transportations such as boats which would include the skillset of navigational awareness on the ocean and another with self sustainable living which could cover fishing, hut building and harvesting water. You'd spend so long holding this book like say.....2-5 hours. BING! you've learned it. You fix up your boat, but realise before that you need to know Island survival. Go to the Library, find the book and this one takes longer, maybe 6-7 hours.....BING! you now obtain knowledge to achieve what it is you set yourself to do. NOW! perhaps you can only hold 2-3 skillsets and let's say by obtaining knowledge of the sea which covers over 3 books you would get perks..such as being able to drive MUCH BIGGER boats, or even if shipwrecks are included into the the standalone, then you're needed to board it. You may be able to wipe clean the knowledge and learn other skillsets, it's up to you. That's my thoughts.

    The surviving photographer

So, tearing myself away from the more serious posts I'd like to try something random and fun (well, to me). I love taking photographs, and I have been taking them a lot lately, subconsciously whilst on a small hike around Ireland I have been simultaneously taking photographs AND thinking of another idea I could throw on here for you guys. I know this idea could and considering SOME of the tards who immediately say ''NO!'' or ''GAY!'' this is just a small thing compared to my ''end-game'' proposal :P A camera to me has and always will be important to me whilst travelling around, taking photographs and letting others take them, it shows where I have been and who I have met, this idea didn't spring to mind until I recently found someone's camera on a small hike. I checked it out to see where they have come from to determine where they would be next so I could hand it in. so I thought 'hay' cameras in DayZ could be not only fun (taking images of specific moments, maybe camps you've found and raided, or even killed your first cow) however, learning from what I did and eventually found the owners of the camera, and knowing Rocket has very subtly included certain detective features of knowing the presence of players. e.g zombies that spawn in a small town, knowing you are far enough for them NOT to spawn indicates a player other than you has triggered them to spawn. also, dead zombies, players and animals are also my example of subtle indicators of players being there as he included the action to 'hide' the body. Let's say, you find a camera (as fresh spawn) you can take images of the people you meet, like the guys you skype with or strangers you stumbled across. Images of you in Cherno then your gang/squad make a camp..you take a snap of that too). Someone kills you, they have ALL that information. Where your camp is, even the funny shits and giggles. IF your camp is till active or something valuable like cars or even a heli location it could be possible for the 'finder' of the camera to flick through your images. I think for it to work in fairness and not have a 5TB memory card inside, maybe have a space of 15 pictures with a really nice effect. I KNOW people will say 'well, I have a PRNT SCRN button hangover!' ...I know this, but one mans tool is another mans weapon. Observe this as a piece of fun, or merely a tool for important information. I also know Rocket is paying attention to important stuff, and not shitty little things like a camera..it's an idea for shits 'n' giggles my fronds! It could be a nice little toy. Thanks, and keep surviving!

    The surviving photographer

I know what you mean matey, like I said...this post is for shits and giggles, a camera as I am suggesting is completely useless in this environment, I'm merely pointing out that as mundane and useless a camera may seem, it can be used as a navigational/tracking device (if it was someone elses and you found it) or its for the LOLS adn you also pointed out the use as a flashbang, which I like. Thanks for the more useful comment matey, I'm beginning to witness idiots commenting stupid replies to what seems to actually be a good idea.

I was thinking firstly, maybe the JPG/PNG could save onto your computer OR if this standalone is going to be on steam then save onto your steam images however, just having them in the game to me seems more immersive I think. I like that you questioned the battery life, to me I thought about digital vs. film and it was a question on how far you're willing to take realism over gameplay. let's say digital, you could have an enormous amount of memory, and if you didn't you can simply delete your images and keep using it. for some reason that did not appeal to me. Now, with film you have this camera, maybe a disposable one with 15 shots available, you can't retake the shots and you cant delete them. Perhaps a Polaroid with a built photo printer. It can be possible to find Polaroid print outs so it gives you a reason to hold onto the camera rather than it ''taking up space''

    Drinking from a water source?

Then as much as I loved your reply being both positive yet passive aggressive towards my comment, you wouldn't survive. Firstly, if I were your friend experiencing this together I mention that drinking the water would inevitably lead to 2 things. 1) Given that we had enough food and water in the first place you wouldn't need to drink from the pond/puddle as I would make sure we wouldn't leave the city until we had very thoroughly and analytically gathered enough basic survival resources to last us the trip more inland. However, ALSO given that you would attempt to drink water from a puddle to prove the point you are now I would AGAIN stop you. As, we would get to the first 3 miles and you'd cramp up protesting to stop every 5 minutes which would lead us to be exposed. Thus, give or take the years I have known you, which would result whether I'd take advantage of your physiological handicap, leave you to die; I will begin to say to you that you either has simple cramps and will eventually shit your pants due to diarrhoea OR begin to wonder whether or not you are infected, and I mean there is no possible way you would know you are infected given that a zombie could have bled, fell or if there digestive system is still working (wink wink) shat into the stream or pond infecting the majority of the fresh source of water. 2) Don't drink piss, theres a reason it comes OUT of your track of digestion and is only drank under extremely cold weather in attempt to keep your digestive fluids warm and active. If you wanna survive, stick with me and I promise I won't drop the beans and butt rape you pahaha. oh, and sorry for the long comment. :D please check out my post on the possible 'end-game' and zombies overrunning servers. But I loved the bear Grylls dig there ;) mwahaha

    Drinking from a water source?

Firstly, it's confusing for me. I'l say Yes because it'd be logical as a gamer to say ''hay, why not I can't refill a canteen since I have none but atleast allow me to drink from the RAW source of water and let me be on my way''. However, I'll also say no. I say this because what you would actually have to do if drinking EVEN from what seems to be a COMPLETELY fresh and clean source of water is you would have have basic equipment such as a boiling pan or something else to perform a similar job to concentrate and filter out the harmful substances from what seems like fresh water. Because there is a fresh water pond infested in ''fresh water'' fish and ''fresh water'' algae, would you consider drinking it before any form of preparation. Therefore, rather than having to collect all of that shit JUST to drink the god damn water you have a canteen which I think symbolizes that you have had to of gotten that to drink the god damn water. So, I'm sorry but logic in both the real world and ''game'' world implications point me to conclude the answer 'NO'. (I DID THAT IN ONE BREATHE)

    Thermal, Night Vision and Flashlights.

Very well written, logical and reasonable post. I 100% agree with this. There is nothing here I can complain about and nothing to correct as you have said it all. Take away the night vision and especially the thermal AWS scope on the L85A2. Natural, and artificial lighting is the direction this should go in terms of night-time combat and survival. Even being able to see in the dark should have consequences whether it's a flashlight or an M203 Flare as you suggested.

Sorry, I didn't know who you were speaking to me or Myke :P I prefer it when people reply either by quoting or by name. Sorry for getting confused :)
  11. My name is Glenn and this topic of conversation was discussed between myself and a good friend Nick. Now let's think of this generated server, typically if you're killed by a player the only result of one player killing another may be this concept thoroughly brainstormed by 'Rocket' himself. i.e the bandit/hero skins depending upon the "humanity scale" concept. IF (I'm not saying that this could be viable), but if there were to be several main servers, and that the result of "A" player being either skilled or "noob" was to be savaged by a group of zombies/infected either by a result of complete ignorance, naivity or in-experience of such an environment or even the lack of MUCH needed assistance from other players, this would permenantly include a single or a couple of zombies/infected. Now, considering this was to happen far too often as a result of a break between this "mutual" need to survive, which has OR has not been problematic in terms of unnecessary killing of noobs and the unarmed depending on your point of view. The biggest and potentially inevitable result so to speak could be an "over-run" server. Meaning, there HAS to be something or some array of tools and possible equipment to resolve this situation. A situation which is affecting everyone who lives and endures to survive, how can we survive a map over-run by the infected/zombies. Ofcourse this could gradually become evidential in stages 1) small towns such as Kamenka and coast line towns will become almost impossible to enter and compose too much of a risk to gather specific and much needed equipment or resources. 2) from those small towns the infected begin to overflood the coast line and main cities (Cherno, Elektro and Berenz). From this point on gathering the needed equipment that you cannot from smaller towns will become extremely difficult to obtain such as basic tools needed to survive much north. 3) The 2nd stage has passed, the cities are not completely condemned, it IS still possible to cleanse "this" city/Town however WILL require a great number of survivors. 4) From stage 3 up to this stage could be programmed to have a much slower pace giving survivors enough time to cleanse the cities and hold back the infected over-rinning the main cities. 5) This is the last stage, the cities have been completely over-run, almost suicidal heli or jeep missions to save "noob" survivors on the coast may need help gaining equipment and food/water you will need others to help and this is your last stand up north. All you have is military spawns so ammo may not be THAT scarse and enough weaponry from higher loot spawns however food and water will degrade VERY slowely as the the closer the proximity the infected is, the less animal (food) will wander the fields and the least amount of fresh water ponds (water). PUSH BACK the infected together or the server is lost. let's look at this from another point of view, those who enjoy to help others may seek out this equipment. On the other hand however, bandits being bandits this means the natural migration of the helpfull and the innocent would move inland...the woods which is said to be a haven from the infected therefore would potentially sabotage an act to cleanse the town/city either out of spite or to gain a tactical advantage to keep the battle in the woods. I liked the idea about recieving transmissions. there could be possible co ordinates from a tool which is suggested by many other DAYZ; a radio to what could be underground bunkers not necessarily obtaining weaponary but rather evidence or operational viral experimentation labs with working equipment which will play a vital role. within these underground bunkers could also consist of other types of loot such as special gasmasks and medical equipment incase operations are to take place within fully infected areas reducing the chance to infect other back up north this could also contain possible equipment for what could become THE CURE. This "cure" may consit of heavy machinery, similar to as a group of survivors may collect a great deal of parts of lets say a URAL or a HELI, why wouldn't they rather find and hold parts to a device which would (If placed within the center of a town or city) could disperse a gas which would temporarily wipe out the infected to that specific town/city. This could provide a fighting chance to set up bunkers or any other defensive barrier to prevent this happening again. I apologise if there are any mistakes in terms of spelling or use of grammar or whether you can't understand certain parts as it's late and this "idea'" if you wanna call it was a conversation between a good friend of mine who would love to see this grow. If this helped or has contributed to even a spark of an idea in the development toward what COULD be the end game of DayZ (I don't like the term end-game but I'm tired :P) then I am happy. Live long and survive.

The 'End-Game' possibility and the over-run of infected/zombies

Cheers mate, yes it wouldn't work in the state it is now. DayZ needs this standalone to grow a bit more :P I won't be able to play DayZ in 2 WHOLE WEEKS :'(

    DayZ - Currency/Shops

    Analyse fireplace

I'm guessing it would have similar investigative mechanics as you would approach a survivors body. You clear the camp incase anything hostile is there. One thing that could be good as a give away of the location of the camp which could be hidden well is a pack of wolves or a bear scavenging for food. Thus, there had to have been people there to eat the food. Clear the camp, and approaching different parts of the camp would provide different pieces of vital information. So, if you scroll click on the camp fire itself, it'd tell you how long the campfire has been out, or if it is still lit, how long it's been on. A similar piece of information could be gathered from the ground around the campfire, the numbers of empty tin that could spawn around the campfire when a number of people sit in close proximity over a certain amount of time would give away their number. So, 3-4 empty cans mean there is 3-4 of them. Now, giving direction will be tricky to implement given that campfires, empty cans and a bear cannot talk. However, discomfort and distortion of some sort in the grass leading away could. So, in terms of coding this in you would have a typical proximity which could be the radius of the heat emitted from the fire, which will not only provide the heat but also trigger how many people are within that radius. When ALL players leave this radius and the fire is out this could trigger (on the ground) distortion of the grass somewhat pointing the direction they head. Sorry for babbling on, but I love this game.

    bring in some snow :D

YES, YES AND MORE YES!. I apologise for my over exaggerated response, but I am one with the cold. There is so much more than just the cold in terms of surviving in the snow; firstly, foot prints or vehicle tracks would an awesome mechanic. Being able to track a group of Bandits who are too clumsy to clean up there tracks would be pretty rewarding. Another thing is the possibility to include sled to carry equipment, meaning if you are to pull it would leave you more vulnerable than the other however could behave as a mobile tent, carrying all equipment and also could carry one person if he is incapacitated for a prolong period of time. I rant on too much, this would be awesome. I LOVE SNOW! BEANS FOR YOU SNOW MAN!

I like you way of thinking, I've always mentioned to friends there should be methods of tracking players and especially bandits. The information we would need is how many there was, how long they stayed and the direction they head. Nice thinking, my beans are yours.

Coloured Arm Bands for quick group ID

we are the blue men group brohan...blue, william wallace faces all the way xD BUT we tend to shout the 'name' ID right now....he'd then reply 'PRONE' 'RED BUSH NEAR WALL' or....'CROUCHED' , '2ND FLOOR OF APARTMENTS HOLDING PISTOL' it's a thing we have. OR which is my favourite...I shout one person to do the wiggle jiggle and that person would stop and spam 'Q and E' untill his hearts content xD

Should Day Z have trains on the track? Opintion wanted

I think some kind of train would be awesome, and good for transport IF there was some sort of metro system that spreads out in-land. having the option to liver underground and having guard posts at each station would be a dream for me considering how large the map could be. If you have seen footage or played the game METRO 2033 they also have hand motorized train carts in which on or two people would operate the cart carrying equipment and people to the next checkpoint. IMAGINE THAT GUY'S D:

The 'End-Game' possibility and the over-run of infected/zombies

I thought about that one. If I walk past a specific place, they spawn and stay. I head North more, then come back down the same place and they spawn more it's just going to get chaotic. If there was a stable and consistent system in which when left TOO long, when a city is left un-maintained which is my main theory in solving most of the current problems, It would provide more things to be done, and of course be open to more questions. If by solving a specific problem, you throw in a solution without thinking about what could follow, you are only solving ONE problem rather than creating something lure-friendly and covers most problems AND offers an 'end-game' probability as I suggested.

The 'End-Game' possibility and the over-run of infected/zombies

Thanks Magnum, however there are things I don't agree unfortunately. I understand how silly it would look on this arma2 engine given that especially when in a heli that you turn down your settings things look hilarious when starting to spawn however the ideas that I and my other friend are coming up with are intended for the newer engine being used when it goes standalone. plus you don't know whether he will still use helicopters as a type of transportation. But let's not look at it from an aesthetic point of view :P secondly, I'm a little confused when you talk about grievers. I understand the concept, for e.g. in minecraft, you waddle over to someones built house or whichever and with no consideration destroy it. ''Griefers'' as you use, within this game are playing the game how they percieve the situation. I myself have moments of madness randomly killing players and acting like a serial killer. It's fun, and it's a game letting off steam within this game is much needed when you have stayed alive for so long and die because you get shot in the back from one your friends as a result of stealing his satchel charge, you'll know what I mean xD. If you mean ''hackers'' not ''griefers'' then yes it will sort itself out, Rocket will eventually be able to completely cut out the A-holes doing stupid shit...but you have to admit if you have ran from Cherno to the farthest NW of the map only to regain your gear that you just got killed for and start randomly dancing to techno music whilst little giggles in the background.....it's pretty funny :P Now, the thing I have realised about this game is that it's ALL about decisions and risk assessment. ''What's more important'', ''who needs what'' and ''why do I/we need to do this'' I understand completely about the current status being similar to that of a wild west movie :P and I also really like the fact that you included that there could be both mental and physiological benefits and pitfalls to being either 'bandit or hero'. At the end of the day, we can't take out bandits or the general idea of bandits...as much of A-holes they can be, THAT's how they want to play the game. Avoiding them, setting them up, converting them and even killing them are all but one of many ways you can have fun in this mod currently. other wise you will be playing a game where everyone holds hands. I don't hold hands bro-cookie :D. I would eventually love to see this great struggle between 'heroes' and 'bandits' (so to speak) in which whilst the heroes/survivors are going about these missions to gain humanity bandits are there to sabotage it. Another idea is that if there are to be several servers , each time this ''ritual'' of cleansing a city/town is complete...the server as a whole gains humanity...giving the bandits who in obvious reasoning wouldn't want that and fight back. There are however many factors to include, and the idea could go wrong very quickly in terms of how we feel toward this idea. Now, Magnum. Spawning! could see how this could work. you die, you want to get back and help out your friend more, but I have to give this a medium sized no. The only reason I stay alive, or the only reason I want to stay alive is because I KNOW I will lose ALL my shit. All of my weapons. All of my tools and in some cases my head. BUT the next time I spawn, okay yes I will mess about and make a small video riding a bicycle playing the Destinys child song ''I AM SURVIVOR'' but I know the cost to NOT be careful. I now understand the value my life may hold. being able to spawn so close to your gear, after every fire fight, it takes away the authenticity of life, and yourself witness even more carelessness of other players knowing how cheap other players lives are. I did however, have a similar thought. similar to that of the recon kit in BF3 (sorry for linking other games and I know they are completely different) but the Spawn beacon has an interesting concept. A one time use only, enabling your friend to spawn and then the beacon is destroyed. But I to this day, don't like this spawning idea. Let's keep it on the coast. I hope I wasn't TOO forward, or confrontational in terms of answering and responding to your idea however I answer with all honesty and with reason. Another thing is if you guy's really like this idea, share it with your friends and If there are other peoples ideas which I think would be a perfect addition to this then I will include them. I don't know much about these types of forums whether or not the developers read ANY of these however giving them ideas from the community A.K.A US GUY'S! then posting to see how everyone else feels can't inflict harm.

The 'End-Game' possibility and the over-run of infected/zombies

BH nev, I like your first comment on the difficulty, I guess if there were more than one server to adjust to less experienced players. I don't however agree with you on 2 things I'm afraid. a ''COD like game'' would be the LAST 3 words I would explain this to ANY newcomer who wants to experience this game. I'm sorry but the thrills, kicks and most of the time devastating emotions I get whilst playing this mod I have NEVER gotten from any other game, period. Secondly, I simply don't think if a person is to camp in one spot for a long period of time and the result being zombies spawning at close proximity would both help or benefit the style you call camping. In fact, what you call camping may also be seen as a tactical manoeuvre. If you want to ''camp'' on a hill with just binoculars over watching Cherno for e.g. that to me defines a player being aware of his surroundings. the other side to this however, is that the player is AFK and decides to stay in server then he is defenceless against both infected. I will probably not include most of what you have said, apart from the possibility of server difficulty depending on the route Rocket takes with the servers, as I simply want to help toward the End-game potential whilst keeping it's authenticity, being both lure friendly and responds to some of the current problems. I'm not being negative, just honest. Thanks for responding BH.

Should DayZ be set during 1944?

I simply don't think altering the date in which the scenario is stated would resolve the main issue. I believe everyone as gotten too used to the present day scenario, and as much I too love the WW1 or WW2 setting I don't like this sudden change. I apologise but I'm honest. I do wish people would explain properly why they don't like the post they're commenting on rather than calling it 'retarded or stupid' don't be an A-hole and explain yourself and your love for the game. also there were ant-material rifles as old as the Mauser 1918- Gewehr. But it agree with that....I believe in response you could have given other ways or alternatives in taking out vehicle armoured/unarmoured. good post.

    Suggestion to combat server hoppers

that may be a little too long giving that you might simply want to go onto a different server :/ if you're engaged in direct contact in the middle of a fucking field which is what most derpy bandit decide to do ignoring that there is a tree line effective for cover...it just tickles my beans. (not in a good way my friend) BUT I like where you're coming from :P

    Suggestion to combat server hoppers

Rocket should include a log out timer in which you HAVE to go prone and hide somewhere safe and have to wait 60 seconds before logging out. I hate getting the jump on a bandit, and then he blinks into nowhere :'(

Herds of infected and the sleep mechanic!

I love this idea and we share mutual thoughts, if you would please check out my post on end-game posibilities in which incorporate the idea of roaming zombies. I however, have suggested so differently. Love this, and the way you present your idea. YOU HAVE MY BEANS!
