    Get rid of chernarus.

Rocket mentioned that a potential successor - years from now obviously - most likely would take place in a different part of the world. As for the current SA its just not going to happen. No point in pursuing this any further.

    Get rid of chernarus.

Yes after investing at least 6 months in the advancement of Chernarus lets completley bin that map on the brink of SA alpha release.

DayZ Double Developer Blog 14th May 2013

@matt: Thanks for the latest devblog. I have a question pertaining to SA servers which was left unanswered so far. Are you able to tell me if SA servers will need frequent restarts very much like current DayZ mod servers and if not will there be restarts necessary at all and to what extent? Thanks for taking your time to read this.
  6. Our group is playing on BSM now for about 2 months and we are extremely happy with the server's features, performance, stability, responsiveness, administration and lack of hackers. Performance and Responsiveness: Server restarts take place within seconds. Also no delay or lag when moving items between storage containers (e.g. car -> backpack) Stability: Server runs very stable with very little crashes (a handful during the course of a month) Administration: There is always an admin around either in-game or on their teamspeak server. Protection from Hackers: Since we started playing on BSM there wasn't a single instance where we witnessed teleporting, spawning of items, mass suicides or the like. Of course there is the occasional occurrence of glitching where some players "hide" themselves or their tents in rocks and similar exploits. We know of those incidents because the admins actively search the logs for such exploits and warn offenders and ultimately ban those individuals (happened once in our time). Features: Not only are there a lot of custom scripts implementing features for dayztaviana.com that only exist in vanilla DayZ but they also add completely new functionality like melee attacks, part detachment and re-attachment to vehicles, HALO jumping (controlling the opening altitude of your chute along with your speed and direction both in free-fall and on suspension on the chute), spawning of loot when approaching in a vehicle, syphoning of fuel and auto-refuelling, loading vehicles in the Osprey and C-130 and dropping them on a chute (amazing tactical opportunities!) along with a healthy number of additional weapons (MK12 SPR, L86, VSS and more), vehicles and skins. New features are being developed and added continuously by SilverShot. Gameplay: If you appreciate a good challenge like our group does you will like the minimalistic loadout (no weapons, no tools), the missing crosshairs, changing weather and view distance along with an existing day-night-cycle(24hrs) topped of by a healthy but friendly competition. Here you still have to work for your gear and be smart about the way you operate. Succeeding here actually has a value attached to it. And with the recently added base-building you can recover from lethal failure (does seem to happen every once in a while :D) at a faster pace. I am sure I have forgotten to mention a ton of other just as important facts about the server but this is what I came up with off the top of my head. Most of us share the feeling that BSM is on of the best Taviana servers if not the best server out there for the kind of gameplay we like (and trust me we have looked thoroughly for we are very picky about the servers we play on) and we wanted to reach others with similar taste and invite them to play with us (or against us whatever your preference is ;)). Word of caution though if you prefer to start out kitted (AS50, Coyote, Map, Compass), with vehicles everywhere, crosshairs and always daytime you might want to steer clear of this one. Also please be advised since this is my very own opinion I am sure other players on BSM like completely different things about the server. So consider this is my own promotional contribution. I hope I have piqued your interest and will see you around the server soon!
  7. I probably just jinxed it. I feel bad now.
  8. So after quickly perusing the last couple of posts here I haven't spotted anyone asking for another devblog today. That said I will take it upon myself to ask this: Are we getting a devblog today?

AMD beats Intel in DayZ?? (read review + watch video)

Doubtful. http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/prozessoren/2012/test-amd-fx-8350-vishera/7/ Its German but to you give you the run-down of that test: Resolution is set to 640x480 so GPU is bored shitless (read: not limiting) and CPU takes over.

    Hitmarkers, yay or nay?

DayZ Developer Blog 15th April Highest one ever

So are we getting a dev blog this friday? ^^ @matt: Can you maybe provide an estimate for the progression of the MMO architecture or what your best guess would be for its completion date? Ofc only if that is even possible at this stage. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Dayz SA to be a failure

I want SA to be hard, brutal and relentless! Also the less it tries to cater to the masses and the more it avoids succumbing to certain "proven recipes" for success in this sector for this genre the better for the final quality of the product. This will to some extend keep a certain type of player at bay while making individual achievements so much more gratifying. I'd rather have 100k of players that appreciate the difficulty of the game then 10M players with a game that is essentially on rails with instant gratification left and right.

    [SA] PVE mode

I am sorry if this sounds very klichee but if you find DayZ needs a PvE mode than you best go play games like say WoW? The ability to do just about everything you like including killing or trusting other survivors is one of the key aspects of this game. Its a decision you have to make for yourself and living in the constant fear of not knowing how others might behave towards you is one of the things that makes DayZ so great. Dont fuck it up for us!

    Standalone Armory

Absolutely not! The game is supposed to have a steep learning curve and there should be only one way to practise your skills and thats by playing the game and certainly not by taking every gun that exists prior to "spawning" for a spin whenever you like. As my predecessor pointed out quite correctly the difficulty of mastering certain aspects of the game and the potential loss when failing inherently transports the value that makes this game so great. Dont fuck it up for us!

Don't Put Clearings Around Heli Crashes

I dont agree with the OP. Consider camping heli crashes less effective since now any potential customers will see that there is no loot from a distance.

    Wind and ballistics system

After reading through all the replies so far I still think this is a great idea for increasing immersion but only if it really is done well. I understand you probably cant and shouldnt recreate a fully realistic deviation system built on wind but do take care to implement the most obvious cases in the most reasonably realistic way. A few things I just picked up on are: correction in 1/4 or 1/8 MOA alternating wind directions (looks like thats in but then clouds have to move accordingly) means of judging direction and speed of wind (craftable or lootable items) accounting for backside/frontside wind (lower/higher crosshair holdover) ammunition-related concerns when zeroing horizontally (G1 table) In overall a table to lookup the neccessary horizontal adjustment depending on distance and wind speed on a per gun basis And I am sure there is more that needs to be taken into account but since I am not a gun nut those seem to be the most obvious for me.

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?

Simply love it! Though can you maybe drop a few lines on animations especially in regard to Zombies? Are/will their anmiations receive some motion-capture time? Oh and if you could also just briefly adress hacking/duping? Thank you so much for your hard work and all those sleepless nights spent on improving DayZ mod/SA.

    Changing Mobo

So your ODD is being recognized just as it can be used to boot into the W7 installation but your are stuck with an error at the point where you select a partition to install windows to ? Well mate without the exact error message there is not much to go on here. Also your SATA-controller on-board probably supports IDE, AHCI and RAID mode. W7 should install w/o any trouble using the first two. RAID probalby is going to require the preparation of a driver disk to help the W7 installer identify that particular mass storage device.

    Screen keeps cutting to black?

If the PSU is rated 700w thats what you get at the output end. Efficiency though is a totally different story. But for now I wouldn't worry too much about that. It sounds like your graphics card drivers might be acting up. Are you getting any sort of error msg once your pc recovers from that black screen? Try removing your current drivers and reinstall the latest ATI offers for your graphics card.

    My NEW Computer Specs

What fails ASUS QM is being labeled ASRock. Avoid buying it at all cost! Also at a second glance I'd get this CPU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115234) over the one you selected. Its the latest generation of Intel Desktop CPU's and the successor to the one you picked (Nehalem -> Sandy-Bridge (your pick) -> Ivy-Bridge(current gen))

    Which Graphic Card is best?

It is really all about how much you are willing to spent. Usually for every slot in a certain price segment you have the option between both manufactures which are either ATI oder nVidia with only minor differences in price and performance. Figure out how much you are able/willing to spent and scan the market in that price range and start comparing by sifting through benchmarks and the like. Choices are quite limited once you set a price range. Also take your current gpu into consideration. You dont want to end up with just a feeble upgrade in comparison to your current setup. I for myself decided to go with a HD7970 specifcally the XFX HD7970 Black Edition Double Dissipation. Oh happy DayZ! ^^ Do not buy a "gaming" notebook for a variety of reasons: a) At the time you are buying the thing it will be already outdated simply due to the fact that hardware development lags behind the development you see for the desktop/server department b)Once you realize a year or so later your notebook is not cutting it anymore you are nonetheless stuck with it for the better or worse (worse mostly). There is nothing you can really upgrade for a reasonable price besides HDDs and RAMs. The rest is doable but really pricy. c)What gets you a fairly well performing notebook to play with buys you a beast of a desktop pc that crushes absolutely everything that you throw at it! Those reasons do not apply if money is of no concern, obviously. :)

    4, 6, or 8 Core Processor

Get a proper "Ivy Bridge"-Generation 4-core CPU and you will be set up for a while. The Bulldozer product line that AMD offers does not even feature actual cores rather than modules where two module share one FPU which is bad in terms of overall performance. Also all the special commands AMD introduced with Bulldozer are not yet implemented for most of the available software. So when thinking about getting a workhorse go for Intel's iX-3xxx. I am still running on a i7-860 (Nehalem-Bridge/1st-Gen) CPU @3.8Ghz and I code in Eclipse that runs from within a virtual machine while having a shit-ton of tabs in Firefox openend on my host along with whatever game I am playing + some more. :). And there is no need for 32GB of RAMs. Thats just a total waste unless you you know exactly what you are doing (having a huge db running mayhaps?!). I got 8GB and only ever get to around 6GB actually used and thats only the case with my vm running + above mentioned stuff.
