  1. DayZ is a very fun game to play during the day, but that's not always an option for you. Sometimes you have to work late, and you just want to scavenge some barns before you go to bed, but fumbling around in the dark sounds like a great way to be hanging out on the Krutov Cap again. DayZ is perfectly playable at night though, with some proper preparation, and night servers often have very few players to frustrate you. First, look for: Chemlights. Glowsticks provide a small but helpful source of light, and can be useful for being able to find members of your group at night. Keep in mind that blue glow sticks are visible for the shortest distance, and green the longest. These are probably your best ambient source of light, since their illumination doesn't carry nearly so much as flares Glow sticks can be picked up using the mouse wheel menu and carried around like a lantern. Road Flares: Flares provide a massive amount of light at night, and draw Zombies in. Use these either sparingly. These can also be carried, like glow sticks. A map: Maps let you navigate easier at night, rather then making guesswork. Landmark orienteering is still possible in the dark, but I cannot stress how useful one of these is. A low population server. This guide is written from the perspective of a player who's moved inland and does their homework to avoid bandits. Low pop servers are a part of avoiding bandits. Given the preference most players have for daylight, this should be fairly easy. Optional, but hard to come by items include. The Remington 870. It's a rare military spawn, and it doesn't snipe as well as other shotguns, but it has a flashlight on it. The Glock 17. One of the better sidearms in the game, with ammo that spawns at most military loot spots. It also has a flashlight on it. You should probably be looking for this gun if you don't already have a M9 Supressed or a PDW in any case. The M4A3 CO: Same as the above. Don't you love your electric torch? The FN FAL ANPV S4. It has a night scope on it, making it possibly the best weapon for a survivor at night, but if you have one of these, you probably don't need to read this guide. Night Vision Goggles. They are the best you can get, but I doubt you'd need this guide if you had them. So now that you've filled out your grocery list, what now? Practice light discipline. Your flares, chemlights and flashlights should only be activated sparingly. These items are excellent for helping you get your bearings and for illuminating your target, but they broadcast your position to curious players and unpleasant walkers. Check your map frequently. If in a group, use this time to eat, drink, or prepare food. Have a goal in mind. During the day, you can wander to your heart's content. At night, you are strictly functioning in a point A to point B capacity. Stick to the woods. At night, the open fields that surround cities are just as full of danger as they are during the day, only now you can't see well enough to avoid that danger. I cannot stress how important it is that you expose yourself for the shortest possible period, even if that means a 10 minute detour. Listen carefully. If you hear anything but the sound of your own footsteps, assume that you are in danger and act accordingly. If you're in a group, leave one person outside of the area you want to investigate, preferably with a scoped weapon or binoculars. They'll be able to sit in the dark and keep you safe, or at the very least, informed. Did it hit the fan? Are you being chased by undead, or worse, bandits at night? This will happen from time to time, so plan accordingly. Have a regroup location for your group, if you have one. Find a choke point, preferably indoors. Lights on the entrances, not on you. Your goal is to force your attackers to reveal themselves while you can aim from relative safety. If you have a flashlight, that goes out the second you think that a bandit is after you. Keep an eye out for lights yourself. If you see a glow anywhere, that is a no-fly zone. And as a closing remark, always be careful when you lay down, or have a friend nearby who's prone. Being walked over can cause significant damage and broken limbs, and opening a door on your face has a similar result. Comments? Concerned about something? Let me know, and I'd be happy to edit the post to accommodate for it.
  2. Where would you hide your tents? Odds are someone else felt the same way. Though tent camps are a bit rarer in 7.5, since they aren't saving properly.
  3. Either he's an altruist, which is fine, or he's a very foolish bandit that will have semi-decent loot on him once the bodyguards light him up. Either way the medics win.

How did your most recent character die?

Wookie shot at me as I was getting out of the north barracks and shattered my leg, but didn't kill me. Sounded like an M14 or a DMR and seemed to be coming from a pretty long range, because it didn't knock me out on the spot. I managed to pull myself back into the barracks and closed all of the doors except the back one- cover for me, and ate all of my cooked meat. Then I waited. All I had with me was my Kobra. As it turns out no amount of cover will protect you from a frag grenade tossed through the doorway. I consider this to be PVP rather than an explosion or sniper, since I was able to respond, I just didn't respond properly.

    Trading L85A2 AWS for M4 HWS M203

That's a hacked in weapon. The only legal M4 with an M203 is an M4 Holo.

    Heroes few and far between?

Nah, you don't need to be whitelisted. Run with a friend, or just show up whenever someone on the forums needs a hand. And don't be afraid to die.
  7. He prolly just means the NW airfield. A lot of people miss the top two.
  8. Recently I lost one of my most coveted items. A tent that was full of a dozen more tents. What I want is exactly the same thing I lost. More tents. If you have a few (2-3), I'd be happy to work out a trade.

    Helpful Hacker

No. Bad. We do not encourage that kind of behaviour. Even if he isn't being actively malicious, he's missing the whole point of the game by skipping the process that everyone else follows.

    Camo clothing

I have a spare set if you want it. I've already got some, and I intend to be showing off my hero skin in the near future.

    Survivor Colony!

I'm not worried about the players in the colony, but survivor colonies are scripter bait. You're going to be constantly ducking thunderdomes.

    Survivor Colony!

I'm interested in it, but I know it's going to end poorly. Always does

    Integrated laptop microphone

They're horribly low quality though. Ask anyone that's tried talking to me.
  14. Bump/Necro for the sake of helping the fresh wave of newbies looking to play at night. It's a lot of fun!

    [TRADE] MP5SD6,...

Actually, both of them are pretty useful. The Camo Clothing, when used in conjunction with a camo-painted face, is excellent for blending into terrain and has a smaller silhouette than the wookie suit when moving. The MP5SD is the quietest gun in the game. While they aren't on par with high grade military loot or helicopter spawns, I'd be perfectly willing to part with mid level equipment for them. That is, if I didn't already have them.

    Heroes few and far between?

I'm very nearly a hero right now, I think there are more than you would think, it's just hard to find them, because they either have camo/wookie suits on, or they avoid other players.

    Looking for tents.

    Bump.
  18. Shame you're leavin the game. Sounds like a fun send off though.

    Night-time playing without NVG

  20. Do you play with a friend? If so, Motorcyle. If not, bicycle. Be careful not to crash.
  21. You two were shooting at each other over common guns and cooked meat? The Chronic Backstabbing Disorder is strong.
  22. I think that number is a bit high. Most players have some high grade equipment, but helicopter loot is still desirable.
  23. Why does it have to have a meaning? Z means Z.
  24. amaROenuZ

    When is stealing ok

Moving on, stealing is fine. In fact, if you didn't save the tent, they won't even lose anything. I personally just loot and walk off if it's a normal tent, or toss a grenade if it's a hacker tent.

Would you Abort if in Danger of death?

No. People aborting at the prospect of death is one of the biggest problems with the game. Tell your friend that if you're going to die, you're going to die. Accept it, learn to live with it, and learn from it.
