  1. Best gear I've gotten from the barracks was an M16A4 ACOG. An SVD -can- spawn in the barracks. It's just a .11% chance of a drop.
  2. So far for me? An M1A1 M4A1. That one hurt.
  3. Okay, I can see making hunting stands have less assault rifles, but...more common CZ550s seems like a bad plan. Lee Enfields are bad enough already, increasing the spawn rate on a high powered, scoped rifle is just a bad plan.
  4. Hope for a good samaritan to come along and fix you up. Otherwise, server hop and pray that one of them has a morphine loot.
  5. Seems like making them puncture on road would make more sense. I can drive my bike over gravel all day, but broken glass? Industrial debris?
  6. I would prefer to play the game cooperatively. but I'm a sniper rifle wielding wookie. People assume the worst of me.
  7. Numpad fail. I'll take my lumps though. :P
  8. I would say at least one bike per town. Several in city size areas. Certainly more then there are in the game right now. It's easier to find ATVs and motorcycles then it is the standard bike.

    looking for group/clan bandit group

Seems like the Bandit Campfire would be a decent subforum to check.

The first time a zed hits you......

Been hit plenty on this life by zeds, no bones broken, no bleeding, not even pain.

    Death Command

Just put respawn on a 24 hour cooldown. Spawnscumming is lame, yes, but there are legitimate uses to it [Respawning].

Lonewolf: What do I do after I get my gear?

Start a newbie mentoring program. Or, cover every intersection in Chenarus with razorwire.

    The FNG Thread

The easiest weapons to find are the most dangerous. You can kill someone faster with a lee or a shotgun than you can with your average AR.

Moved to middle of nowhere, what do I do?

You appear to have been moved beyond the edge of the map. There's not much that you can do at this point other than wait it out and sigh.

    Is this a starving game?!

Matches, a hatchet, and a hunting knife. Once you've got those, you'll be fine. Unless you crush your head with a door frame. That happened to me earlier this week and I was promptly devoured. Quite unpleasant, seeing as I had myself fully kitted out, but these things happen.
  16. I'm currently debating shooting my own partner to be honest. He fired an unsilenced weapon in the middle of the airfield and I got ganked for his troubles. Sure, I picked up an AK-74 within 5 minutes of my spawning, but I'm going to miss that ALICE pack.

Love for the Winchester anyone? :D

It's a good gun. My tastes are a bit more exotic, but I would be lying if I didn't say that I find it to be an excellent general use weapon.
  18. So you just started the game, and you're looking for something with a bit more power than a flashlight. Here's some good stuff to know: Find a barn. Odds are good that it'll have a shotgun in it, or at least a hatchet and some food, and there are rarely more than three zombies around them. Find a deer stand. These are normally in the woods, and generally have two to three zombies around it. It's easy to sneak in, check for some high quality gear, and get out. Don't shoot unless you have to. It's better to crawl around for 5 minutes than to fire three shots and let everyone and everything within 250 meters know where you are. Know your gun. There's no reason waste valuable ammo for noisy guns on zombies if it's not an emergency. That M14/Enfield is for killing bandits my friend. Don't spastically reload. In DayZ, each magazine has a certain amount of ammo, rather than each gun drawing from a pool. An overview of guns a newbie will typically see: Sidearms. These are found in residential areas. Makarov: This gun is respectable for a fresh player, but it doesn't really handle well outside of experienced hands. Ammo is plentiful, the gun is fairly quiet, but it comes with the downside of requiring more than a few bodyshots to kill your average Z. It almost certainly will prove insufficient against a bandit. Stick to headshots if the Makarov is your first weapon. 1911: The 1911 is much better for a fresh player than a Makarov, but it's got a couple downsides. Ammo is much harder to find, though per bullet, it hits harder, and you'll have one less round in the magazine. Otherwise, it handles much how you would expect a pistol to. Revolvers: It's a 1911 with one less round, but significantly better accuracy. Use it if you're confident in your aim, and prefer longer range engagements. Primaries: These are typically found in barns and farms The Double Barrel Shotgun: It's the most common gun to see on a new player, and there's a good reason for that. The double barrel spawns frequently, and ammo can be found for it in virtually every area in the game. For a shotgun, it's a rather quiet weapon, and the reload on it is very quick. Slugs make it very accurate, pellets make it very easy to use. All of these can be combined into 8 round magazines to save space. If you find this weapon early, pick it up. The Lee Enfield: Avoid this gun. While ammo for it is relatively plentiful, it's slow to fire and has a massive audible radius. There is no good reason to use this weapon if you aren't hunting people. The Winchester 1886: The Winchester is slightly louder, and slightly shorter ranged than it's 12 gauge counterparts, but has a better inventory space efficiency than any other shotgun. The choice between this and the double barrel is mostly personal. And there you have it. Later guns can be found on military bases and in deer stands. Finally, if you need help finding a barn or deer stand near you, check http://dayzdb.com/map.

A newbie's guide to guns. Where and what:

My concern with the Lee isn't so much the range other people will hear you, but the range at which zombies will hear you. New players normally don't often have ammo to spare. :P

Da fack happend to the M1911

A gun known for being weak in real life too. The 9mm round is known to have less stopping power than the .45 ACP round.
  21. *drink* It'sanalpha.

    How do you gear up?

If it's a full party kill? Work my way north and hit every barn and deer stand on my way up to the airfield. If it's just me that's dead, bolt north while my bud guard my corpse.
  23. amaROenuZ

    We need a purpose.

You know what would be nice? The ability to actually keep a town clear of zombies, rather than them just respawning as fast as you can clear em.
  24. I once tried to visit green mountain with a friend of mine. We kept heading for the peak, we really tried, but we always ended back up in Sosnovy. You can try it yourself. Go during the day. Tell yourself "It's only dangerous at night". You won't make it.

    ...

Startlingly angry response to a problem with a simple solution. Toss a razorwire fence over the front of the barracks, shoot the guy when he stops to take down the fence, and hide the body.
