Gonna recommend this guide to my friends who start playing. Welcome to DayZ. Only thing "missing" IMO is how to use chemlights - which might be a better choice than the flashlight, because you can still use a weapon and see things. Sure, downside is that you can't put them out as fast as a flashlight, but other players have to be way closer to you to see the chemlight glow. -

Normally a game has 1 audio device for input and 1 for output (could be different, could be the same), but you can't seperate "ambient audio" from "voice audio". It WOULD be possible if there's an option to chose your voice device, but afaik there's not and Arma2 just uses the Windows default (and games also normally don't care about "Multimedia", "Communication" and "Standard" devices set, they all go for "Standard").

Why implement another timer when you already have one? Pretty pointless IMO. Losing blood also accomodates for getting weaker, so you'll be dead sooner if hit by something. -
Which sidearm do you use? Had that problem with my M1911 - 10m+, no chance. Even sometimes when a Z is in right my face it misses and generally I'm a good shot. Killed my prone buddy today on accident with a headshot when a standing Z was hitting him and I aimed for his chest at ~15m - talking about absurd bad luck there. :wacko: Switched to Revolver now (first sidearm I came across), first headshot try was a winner. @DayZMarksman: So the crossbow isn't a special DayZ weapon? Interesting, didn't know that. Thought that the Shooting Range 1.1 mission had all Arma2 weapons built in.

Keep in mind it's an Arma2 patch, not a DayZ patch that caused it. But Rocket might know something about it.

Yeah, that's kinda annoying. Would be awesome if there's a way within Arma2 to surpress that re-defaulting. A frickin' switch doesn't change it's possition just because I changed weapons :)

Nicely done videos! What's the shooting range mission called and can you download it? Looking for one that has the crossbow in it to train my aiming.

This! Rocket might adept values in DayZ to those changes, because this change (IMO) seriously renders every sidearm without higher-than-average accuracy and/or clip size almost useless. We'll see. I switched my M1911 for a Revolver today, might be a better choice due to better accuracy.

2x Water Bottles 2x Soda for emergencies 2x Beans (going to start hunting now though after I found myself some matches) 2x Morphine 2-3x Painkillers 4x Bandages 1x Epi (running around in a group most of the time - never had to use one before, but better safe than sorry) 2x Bloodpacks When I'm below 1/2 my ressources I plan a shopping tour. So far that works for me.

This. (Is. An. Alpha!) Oh, the whiners. Will they ever learn that their habbit of flooding forums with tears may work on something like WoW, CoD and stuff but not everywhere? Doubt that... Broken bones and no morphine is super awemazing, especially if you got hit through a wall. -
New players cant get past learning curve

This thread...seriously... So you played good ol' Strike Commander back in the days and now you think you can manage DCS A-10C Warthog from the get go? Yeah, sure... If DayZ actually would be as tough as that, the mod itself is quite easy. Brutal, but easy. Only thing you might have a point is about installation. At least for me it took 2-3 attempts to get DayZ started. Why? Because most install guides don't mention you actually have to start Arma2 OA at least once in Joined Op mode. Still makes sense to me. Apart from that, no problems and/or hard times ever (except aiming and going for headshots is still a bit tricky, but that depends not only on my skill not being where I want it to be, but also on some weapons inaccuracy and lag). Why? Because when I first heard about DayZ and that it's fucking brutal ass rape, my common sense told me to go and watch some gameplay footage. So I'd call myself an experienced noob. But friends who started without this starting bonus also managed to get around, find a weapon (hatchet), food, drinks, and so on, without attracting every Z in the vicinity. Sure, they asked me things like "how do I do X?", but those questions just spared them a few minutes max before they would have figured it out on their own - it's not that hard. And to everyone mocking about controls, double tapping, etc. - why do you think there's an option in the menu called "Controls"? Go fucking change them if you don't like them. This mod is not (and hopefully never will be) made for the casual gamer, so if you can't cope with it, go play something else. You live and you ARE going to die and lose all your stuff. You don't have the right to expect things the way you want them to be or getting "the best" gear there is, and you don't have the right to demand this mod being easier just because you may lack the motivation to learn and/or inform yourself (up front). -
This. Was looking for some for 3 days, then I found 2 in 1 supermarket (and 2 maps and 4(!) binocs - all in one supermarket). Still looking for a compass though... <_<

Spreading the loot more is something completely different and, IMO, not what "I would rather see that there are more known locations, that spawn the best (military) loot." means. But that might be a misunderstanding on my side. But still, putting more high quality equipment into the mod basically is making it easier. Hero post, sir! I salute you!
