Got it, thanks! I shot out the tires in case it wasn't the right server though.

What makes you more intelligent and professional at DayZ ?

De-Bambi-Ification (For non-Frankie Fans I am a noob and need help)
HMS replied to I Liek Beanz.'s topic in New Player Discussion
You're doing fine. Like others have said, avoid the big towns on the coast. (Stop using the word "Bambi" though. It's just wrong, but at least you get beans for not saying "bro".) My suggestion is to hang on to those guns. The FN is a beast at mid range, up close, but is something of a dinner bell for Zombies. So is the AIM, but at least you can be much further with that one. Next step: leave the towns, head north in search of more choppers and hopefully a vehicle, so you can repeat same, but faster. -
Sounds like someone I've bumped into before Rooneye. If it was you, thanks for yelling Friendly - and I hope you appreciated the smoke grenade I threw to get the train off you.

On a private server, two of us on. Side chat enabled. I asked for a transfusion, fully expecting to die. He was bored and shared his 5+ vehicle camp with me. So, you never know.

I tried this too. No good anymore. Saved 2 guys from getting absolutely mauled by a herd of 10 Zs. I picked off about half of them with my AKM, which drew the rest to me. As I back away, so they can escape, they shot me with their pistols. This is why we cannot have nice things.

Basically forget it. 2 months ago, my answer was different but now, just don't bother. Make friends here on the forum first, THEN plan on a meetup in-game. That is the only way. Other than that, if you see someone, make sure they don't see you, and move along. Communicate with them if you choose, but make sure they don't see you. If you insist, make sure you have something to offer them like a blood transfusion, and make sure this was a 'medic mission' where you left all your other stuff back in a tent. You will be killed - if not by them, by someone or something else. Congratulations on trying to play right.

Trademark Law and YOU! Why Heinz Baked Beans can stay in DayZ
HMS replied to Erizid's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You don't know that there isn't Mr. Pibb. Keep looking! This came up a few months back and Erizid may be right - but the hassle would probably ultimately not be worth it. Which I why I recommended the Wacky Packages idea. Nobody listened. I know music copyright owners can't stop someone from using their song in a movie, or playing a cover of it live. They just have to be compensated for it. But that's copyright as opposed to trademark. (And still, the hassle is what stops it from happening more). TM owners won't want their trademark helping to sell (that will be the argument) a game all about killing / dying. -
4 cans of Mountain Dew, NVG, and anything else I could ask for. Ruined by a-hole server owners who refused to reboot EVER. The server would sit there, perfectly pingable and never playable... mocking me. We cannot have nice things.

I see you cant alt-f4 or exit anymore. Does that mean hacking has been dealt with?
HMS replied to Mr Radar's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Alt+Tab and quick right-click and choose "Close window" in the taskbar has gotten me out of plenty of stupid teleported situations. Use that. -
Dayz koS would be rife irl if there was an apocalypse

Water fills up instantly at the pumps, doing what you are doing, but in a lake, there is an inexplicable lag. And that lag varies by server. Go in the lake (not the ocean - that doesn't work anymore), up to your waist. No deeper, no shallower. Do the inventory right-click-water-bottle thing. He will eventually bend over and fill, and eventually you will hear the glug glug sound. Some servers are nice and snappy with this animation/interaction, some take about 10 seconds where you aren't sure if you are even in deep enough. Practice will get you there. Mic: I forget what the default key is. Check that in keyboard settings. Regardless, you want to make sure you are on the correct voice channel first. The one you almost always want to be on is Direct. Never General unless you are trying to talk to people on the player-list pre-load screen. Vehicles: i think there are certain places that do more damage. I am told that a 50 cal shot to the engine will certainly disable it in one shot, but I don't know if that means it fully kills the "ENGINE" parameter or just shanghei's the whole vehicle.

Don't do this Royal. There is absolutely no reason to kill someone who is a new spawn. You gain nothing whatsoever, they were never a threat whatsoever, and only bad things can come from this. If you see someone you don't know and you don't know if they are a threat, simply keep away.

Sounds like you tried to download DayZ, the zombie game, but accidentally downloaded DayB, the bandit game, like me. Let me know when you find the correct download link.

Considering what's not working on DayZ
HMS replied to Itsnotcrazyuntilchachacha's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No no no. What I am saying is that firing a hand cannon in a town, or a 50 cal from a hill should have the simple consequence of alerting a horde like ringing a dinner bell. Nothing to do with wanting to know if someone is friendly or not. We've all fired an Enfield in the middle of Elektro, as a brand new player. Remember that? Learned your lesson damn quick I am sure. We'll see what happens with the developers. Trust me, if the Zombies are enough of a threat, one of two things will happen: A: More people will team up. B: Less people will murder *JUST FOR THE LULZ*. It will still happen. I will still even do it. But you'd imagine your back would be firmly back against an immovable wall before rolling the dice like that. *Because Zombies will come and eat you. And you won't have enough bullets. And won't be able to lose them by peeking into a tool shed.* It's all pointless bitching at this point either way. -

I can try to offer one reason why that could be good, Dreygar. If Zombies are more dangerous, can run indoors, and even hit on the fly, teamwork *will* help with that. Say you are being chased by a few Zombies... maybe they aren't faster than you, but you should certainly get winded whereas the Zs will not. If you run into another player, it is in their best interest to shoot the zombies for you if possible. For one thing, unless there is a grudge against you, there is the humanity aspect. People don't like to see other people suffer. We know that doesn't apply to 90% of the users on this forum or any hi-pop server at this time so, for another, the same zombies chasing you will ultimately chase them - if they do the game right. Instantly, it is demonstrated to even the reluctant "Bandit" that we are all in this together. If ammo is really rare, which it should be but there's no guarantee that it will be, then yes, this will be more difficult. Zombieland is a motherfucker, after all. But, I don't believe the final product will make it so. Electroban, I am aware of your provocative tone but I will answer anyway. No, I am obviously NOT in favor of procreating, since that adds a whole new level of hassle and difficulty to surviving. I would also suggest that "shooting some turd to get food" is actually not surviving. It may be "eating" if you get one meal out of it, but you certainly won't find the "turd"'s tent. You probably have nothing to worry about, because I don't hold much hope for the standalone being the game I wish it would be. You'll be able to shoot everyone you want and have no real consequence for it. But if you watch any Zombie movies you know that a gunshot will call every Z within a mile - you shouldn't like those odds, but I doubt it will happen. -

DayZ, the mod, and the standalone, fails in achieving its "sandbox" goal unless and until there are real consequences to shooting everyone you see. CQC or a mile away, it does not matter. If the game fails to properly reward teaming up against the environment, and at the same time punish reckless behavior that is antithetical to surviving the end of the world as a species, then it will continue to be a grind interspersed wit griefing. I don't care how many Zs you end up sticking out in the middle of the woods. -
Well, I dun gone and got myself in bother!!!!!!
HMS replied to jbec-john's topic in New Player Discussion
jspec I spent the first month or so without heading even remotely North. You can find tons of stuff at Balota and the major towns. I don't know where you checked, exactly, but don't forget the 4 'deer stands' by the fenced off section to the Southeast of the Balota airstrip. In the strip itself, check the 2 hangars and the ATC tower. Good luck! -
Sounds like you got it. As for vehicle spawns - they don't always spawn on server restart. And for the love of god, aloud means out loud. Allowed means permitted. And yes, it's allowed.

if i drop my stuffs in the wood do i lose it
HMS replied to 8bith3llvis's topic in New Player Discussion
There is about a 20% chance that when you drop it, it will just stone cold disappear immediately. This should not in any way be true, but it is. -
Thanks for starting this thread. I was just wondering why I have been having a HELL of a time finding a bike on the coast, right after a server restart, no less. The problem with this is that you invariably get stuck on a server you wish you never joined just to get the vehicle. I got 2 nice vehicles with a ton of gear in... 3082. I have pleasant dreams at night if I think of that server owner being keel-hauled whilst I drift off to slumber-land.

oh 1 more thing, xW10 - totally forgot to say this before. You mentioned using the axe on zombies. You are absolutely right about it not being as easy as it should be with the axe vs. the aggroed walkers. If you are out of their line of sight (behind them in the day, or just dead silent in front of them at night), it's a piece of cake. Except for the crazy mechanics of using the axe. It's too slow to take multiple swings. That is why 2+ aggroed zombies means trouble. They run and zig-zag. And yeah, there's a pattern to it, but as you said they can get glitchy. And while you swing at 1, another one swings at you. So yes, fully agree with you on that situation. It can get rough. Hmmm... I wonder what might be better than taking on 3 aggroed walkers.

I'm not sure why no servers are showing up, but definitely forget about single player - that won't do anything for you in terms of DayZ. Now, don't forget, you need to run the standard game once from Steam and you should, anyhow, just to run the infantry tutorial. And yes, DayZ Commander. I hope they buy it out and use it as the in-game browser you-know-when.
