I have been playing for about 1 year and just today I found my first set of NVG. That was at a crashed chopper. The server had been up for days probably and I hit at least 10. Very lucky to find it. Coyote I always find at the Stary Sobor tents.
-
OP: What server was it? Much good can come from everyone knowing.
-
HAHA Nice! That's the rule. Take what you find that you want, and if you suspect something is not to your liking, blow everything else up.
-
Yeah dude wherever that is sounds like a way better Zelengorsk.

Darrus, After a long hiatus, yes, tents normally go bye bye. I think the rule is still that you need to touch it every week or so. The stuff you found there was from someone else who found you out, watched your stuff for a while, and when you were really gone, they just squatted. Dumb on their part. Tents can disappear and reappear after a server restart or two, but this problem is largely gone from the better-managed servers. I believe your concerns with the M107 are being addressed in an update soon. As far as foul play being involved with your camp's discovery: Absolutely, just go ahead and assume yes. All server owners/admins know where your tents, vehicles, spawn locations, etc are. All of them, all of it. No exceptions. Check out the FAQ on the hosting companies that provide most of the public hive servers. It's listed right on their page, touted as a feature you are buying, along with the ability to password-lock the server - which used to be an enforced, kicked off the hive, no-no. It's really not worth putting that much thought into it actually. Just accept it and hope the stand alone is the complete opposite in that regard.

What are you looking to do with this ammo and weapons you speak of? If all you want to do is defend yourself from Zombies, you need to learn stealth first, and then axe or a fairly rare silenced weapon with even rarer ammo. All military sites will help you out with that, to the extent that you can rely on random, rare spawns. A loud gun will call more Zombies, and worse, looky-loos with bigger guns. If you are looking for a weapon to defend yourself against a human attacker, any of the basic military guns you will sometimes find in the fire stations and Balota will do nicely. Even at medium range, in a city, a few slugs from an AK will keep their heads down while you get away. I mean will hopefully keep their heads down while you run from anything and everything that heard you fire.

Hi Puk, What town are you in/near? The hatchet is your friend. I am still dropping weapons to hack away with the hatchet because it's quiet. Most likely in a supermarket, with any luck, you will find yourself an Alice pack or a Survival Pack, 16 slots or so. I don't know if you know this yet, but picking up a new backpack is even more insane than having items evaporate if you try putting them in a small pack. 1) Approach a new backpack. 2) Look at it. 3) Scroll the mousewheel and notice the option "Open Alice" (for example) and click on that option and NOTHING ELSE yet. 4) Your inventory screen will open up. You will see on the top left, the new, empty bag from the floor and its available slots. "16/16". 5) Move your goodies INTO that pack. Do it like this first: Double click the picture of your current, starter backpack. It will now show you graphically on the top right of your screen, with the 8 slots and whatever is in them. 6) Move the little arrow thingies on the left side of the screen, further toward the left. Notice the 16/16 turns to 15/16 as you move a can of food in there, or whatever. 7) Once you have moved everything that you care about from your old pack into the new pack, hit ESCAPE to close your inventory screen. 8) Your stuff that you moved is now in the new pack, and it is lying on the ground. 9) Look at the new pack again, and mousewheel to the option that says "TAke Alice". Click. 10) Your character will then don the new backpack. Your old backpack takes a wormhole to another dimension. Or sometimes it just lies on the ground. 11) Run. 2a) If you are looking at the backpack on the ground, but cannot interact with it, check around it for loose items, empty cans, other junk, etc. This happens a lot whenever you really want something, especially medical supply boxes GOD DAMN IT, and are being attacked. You will need to pick up all that crap, move away, dump it all, then come back and interact with the item. It's buggy.

Im not even a noob yet. Any tech heads around?
HMS replied to Zephlin's topic in New Player Discussion
I hate to be less than helpful man, but if you don't check the "can I run it forum" yourself, then I can tell you right now: you will not ever be able to play this game. It took some IT professionals in this community literally days to get the game running. You aren't going to be able to do this. Maybe wait for Stand Alone. -
Good luck dude. I can't believe you met up with from friendlies and "grabbed a heli" on one of your first times. That is great. Your experience is not typical.

That got me once too. 1.7.7 is not actually out yet.

Does anyone know what he means by this? Explain "stash site" please... what will it look like, how to make, etc Infected Survivor Camp? Are these new locations added to Chernarus? * [NEW] - 2 new stash sites. (tools required = Etool or Shovel. Items required = 1 sandbog for small 2 for medium) Small = 8 objects slots, no weapons, no bags. Medium = 16 Objects 1 weapon , no bags * [NEW] - Infected survivor camps. (WIP) 3 - Small, 4 - Medium.

Alt F4 Effect and morality
HMS replied to eden.is.masterchief@me.com's topic in New Player Discussion
I totally would [care about such punishment]. Just this week I was on Namalsk and had an INTENSE intestinal emergency that literally would not wait the 30 seconds. I was in the woods, couple of walkers around me, hidden and prone. "Good enough" I said. Ended the game and got on with my life. -

Webbers, You are enduring an intense amount of flame for coming here and simply asking a question. Take EVERY FUCKING BEAN I OWN just for that. -

I missed the SECOND LINE of the OP where it said it was Origins. I am not familiar with that mod, but based on "whoknowswho"'s description, it looks like an admin was watching the goings-on and determined that someone was trying to game the system. I can probably write 5 more paragraphs on this but I will just say "It looks like a crappy ban to me". I was banned once on a server (call it "server B") that I was moving all my stuff to because "server A" was shutting down. I had 5 tents on "Server A". "Server B"'s admin was checking his logs the next day and saw me putting down 5 tents in relatively rapid succession and decided that I was duping them. (This was version 1.6 or something when it was easy to perpetuate any consumables that you wanted.) The only bad thing is that the admin was not too sure how to manage his server and after 3 weeks of telling me he unbanned me, not only was I still banned, but then the server disappeared. And 5 tents full of glorious L85s, NVG, and fuel tank parts.

I don't think he got banned for spawnkilling. We'd need to hear more about this from the admin because, aside from spelling "mechanics" wrong, that's not what they said. If he did, then the other guy with the m16 needed to be banned as well. After all, he was a fresh spawn looting for flares for all we know. (This thread, as I see it, is not intended to be a place to debate the merits or idiocies of killing fresh spawns. The game clearly allows such behavior.) My question is... what did they mean by "exploiting humanity mecanics [sic]"? It didn't say "banned for spawnkilling". Perhaps trying to get the bandit skin by murdering a lot at once?

Is there any way to recover deleted files from my system ?
HMS replied to davegeeit's topic in Technology/Programming
You didn't mention what OS you are on. Do this: 1) Stop using the computer you need to recover the item on. You need to have stopped using that computer yesterday. That is because every bit of data that is changed increased the chances of recovery becoming impossible. 2) Using another computer, buy Easy Recovery or the stuff from Prosoft. You are going to have to spend around $30 to do this. 3) Remove the hard drive from the computer in question. 4) Connect it as an external hard drive to the computer running the recovery software purchased in step 2.. You may need to buy a USB external hard drive connector for around $25 to do this. 4a) The software you get may have an option for using a boot disc/CD/DVD/USB in which case, you won't need to disconnect the hard drive. You can do it all on the same computer, but it's safe so long as you aren't writing to the hard drive. 5) The program you choose will have its own file management program you would use to browse through the contents of your hard drive. It will take some digging, but you should be able to find stuff that was deleted, and then choose "restore", or manually move it someplace that makes sense, etc. [Note: if the hard drive was encrypted with BitLocker, PGP, TrueCrypt, Safeboot, etc, you will have a harder time or it may be impossible but none of these steps apply except for step 1.] Report back if you need help. -
Wait until you fly your chopper to the top of that hotel in Cherno... and squeeze that landing so, without realizing until it's too late, you hop down to the little ledge and then find that there's not enough room to CLIMB BACK UP THE LADDER ON THE SOUTH SIDE so there's no way to get back to your chopper or do anything except jump and die.

Don't Be Fooled by Other Players: "Bad Guns" are Hidden Gems!
HMS replied to applejaxc's topic in New Player Discussion
Someone said they don't like the plastic iron sights on the G17. The G17 has the most accurate sights, the most rounds, and it has a flashlight mounted on it. I really don't need to go any further. -
I don't think it's going to work out, dude.

Sorry I don't have any pics. The damn things are never where they are supposed to be. They are either already taken, or never spawned in the first place. One place it spawn and is not listed on the dayz online loot map that everyone uses: The NE AF. Go just NE of it a little more, and there is a hill with an antenna on it. Around that antenna is a fence. The bike will be right up against the fence, to the right of the opening. Good luck! And when you find one, be careful in the woods. The downhills can be a bit rough.

Crooked Admins!?!? Say it aint so...
HMS replied to campaign_junkie's topic in New Player Discussion
I am sorry for your experiences, Campaign Junkie. You are, however, the richer for having experienced this. You have had a first-hand peek behind the curtain. 3 clicks is all it takes for an admin to find out anything on the server. 2 clicks to make sure you are no longer unconscious and bleeding out when rejoining the server, or to fill your backpack with anything. 1 click to change your Alive state from 0 to 1. -
Pub servers have hackers who can wreak all sorts of havoc. Active private server operators tend to keep the place hacker-free, but they know where your tents are. Choose wisely. That said, the folks at Balota Buddies are good people, and too busy having a good time to bother with your tent locations. But that place is a murder-fest which is a playstyle I don't agree with. If you're OK with it, definitely check them out.
