It gave me something to do. I understand Maca's point about the codepad. We agree about the immersion 100%, but are just looking at it from two angles. Most of us love immersion, which is why we get that heart pumping adrenaline at times in DayZ and we are ultimately all looking to get it back. This is just a different sort of reward for hard work and not getting yourself shot at. Running into an active firefight or doing everything you can just to find another person so you can shoot bullets at them is absolutely the least immersive element in any apocalypse game. That is what I meant by silly deathmatching. Not banditry, not murdering (2 different things). They do have their place. It will never be controlled by standard game mechanics, but so far I am happy with Origins' attempt. DayZ's does nothing for it. As I said, everyone on this forum, for the love of christ, do not play it. It doesn't even belong - it's not called DayZ Origins anymore AFAIK. It's like MOD Origins now I guess. Delete this thread, nothing to do with DayZ.

I have no idea. Maybe something to do with the world's worst GFX and Layout designers working on the loading screen collage. Stupid website design. Maybe the ads on the awful website / forums.

Well it takes an insane amount of crap to even start a foundation. Just the amount of wood and rocks is staggering. And the hatchets break every so often too. And then you have to let it sit for 24 hours before you can continue. You have to keep all that stuff someplace while you are getting more, also. So, it's not just "OK I downloaded Origins and now never have to loot again". But then again, I don't want the DayZ silly deathmatchers to play it, so fine: it sucks and nobody should play it.
-
OP: The question should be, assuming you are an Origins fan, why would you even hint at trying to make a case to get more DayZ guys on Origins? Don't even act like you haven't noticed the gameplay difference when that happens. I ain't gonna say too much.

I think the hardest thing to do in DayZ...
HMS replied to Blippy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sociopaths, every one of them. -
I use silenced gun as soon as I can find one. Sighted in - that is to say, not in 3rd person and using iron sights - Any bobbing Z head beyond 30m, aim a teensy bit higher than its nose and fire just before the head comes to where you want the bullet to hit. Those rounds are way slower and the travel time is palpable. I'm not even sure what the FPS is but it is not much faster than some air guns. If one one of them is aggroed and running after you, it's tougher because landing the critical headshot is harder as they are bolting around. Once they are on top of you and smacking away, (assuming again, sighted in, not in 3rd person for the shot), aim like 8 inches higher than their head. I have no explanation for this. Too close for bullet drop, but face shots just hit them harmlessly in the chest.

I am thinking the Epi pen does this right now.

Good point about being easily broken into but with so many houses... it's a needle in a stack of needles and potentially a decent hiding spot. Hiding a tent in the woods is still a good idea even thought they stand out like a sore thumb with their day-glo colors, but only because there's a lot more forest with nothing in it.

Why don't people leave the coast?
HMS replied to victusmortuus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
They have an aversion to finding crash sites. -
Keeping my reply simple: Yes, this would be cool. Realism happily goes out the window with certain things, adrenaline for healing broken bones, epi pen for waking someone else up. Go ahead and throw in the defib / AED / magic box.

So, I broke down and bought the game...question
HMS replied to OneGunSalute's topic in New Player Discussion
Car spinning in circles: tempted to say you were missing a tire, but I don't think you'd actually move at all. Probably, your mouse was jerked in one direction or the other. In a car, double tap ALT, so you can get into free-look mode, and just use WASD for steering. But if you are still this new there is tons more to learn. You are on your way. Search for "backpack tutorial" and learn about the inventory management or you will lose everything you ever owned. -
So, I broke down and bought the game...question
HMS replied to OneGunSalute's topic in New Player Discussion
Good luck, OneGunSalute, and welcome to your worst nightmare. And while these guys are technically not incorrect about the human threat, you have literally no business being hunted at all (in vanilla dayz) as a fresh spawn. If you find a PvE server that can somehow enforce it, go with it, Or start with very low population servers. You will not be missing anything yet. It ain't a deathmatch, it's more of a marathon. When you are comfortable, jump into "regular" servers or get with me and I'll help you out. I've survived a long time without firing a shot at another human. -
DMR+Crosshair ON IS cheating, no matter how you look at it
HMS replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm looking at it, straight up, as not. -
Origins has their own "official" hive. So, if you use a server that is on that, your character data would be persistent across the member servers. BTW the reason there are a lot of Origins threads here is because their site is lame. The deluge has started where players jumped there for some reason. Stop it. Don't ruin my new game.

Could someone smarter than I tell me what just happened?
HMS replied to derick2589's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am not sure why you knowingly ran into a dead-end with no weapon, where you couldn't have expected to find your own duped body, past countless Zombies, unless you were in on the shenanigans. No idea. Ask a BMRF admin to check some logs. -
Throw flare to distract Zombies... Go to shoot a Zombie who saw you... OOPS, STILL ON THE FLARES. Gently and leisurely throw another flare instead of shooting a bullet whilst getting mauled within an inch of your life.

Will SA alpha be in a worse state than the mod?
HMS replied to JoeM (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
OP: Either we are all just commiserating together here, or you needed to ask specific questions. I mean, who the hell knows? The only thing we have to go by is videos we really can't go by. I'll help: Does anyone know if you will get killed because you have to wait this insane amount of time to put away a pistol and take out your main gun? Does anyone know if you will stop all forward motion to do so? (I hope not - based on the nice fence jumping I saw) -
Remove attack helis entirely, or put AMRs back in the game.
HMS replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
OP: Sort of what Hetstain said, How do you know those choppers are your enemy? -
You guys have got to get off regular DayZ if this has become the norm.
-
But I decree that no crashed chopper should ever spawn with cans and nothing else. That should never happen, and did to me last night. (No it wasn't looted before I got there)
-
OP: Who are you and how did you get inside my brain?? I've been saying this same thread now for a year. Yeah, there should be some tweaking certain dynamics. Absolutely. But the overall theme of your post is painfully accurate. Edit: oh yeah, they should have fixed the Zombies attacking through walls thing first, totally. If it's not fixable, then just say "well it was good for a while, hope you all enjoyed it" and shit-can the whole project.

will the admin live server tool be in standalone ?
HMS replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Panda, I will see your Cpt. Picard Facepalm, and raise you a Willie Wonka advice animal. What we are wondering is if the backbone and database are going to be handled essentially the same way, with easily editable tables in wide open SQL. Sure, the current claim is that the SA Alpha will be Public hive only. The question revolves around the fact that I don't intend to stop playing after the alpha, and am wondering how it's going to be built. We're all just looking for data. -
will the admin live server tool be in standalone ?
HMS replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
dgeesio, I am with you on this and have said this many times. While I won't go so far as to say "most admins this" or "some admins that" the fact is, if you have access to the SQL database which is the heart of your server, you have access to this. That's locations, health, loot, NVGs, every conceivable variable. These are the facts. The facts are also: I love the guys at Balota, Billy Mays, and other good ones. And also: I still do not like that. This is simply how the game was built. I am bummed to read that so far nobody has been able to say "Don't worry, the stand alone won't be like that." -
You know, if you read this in a Borat voice, it ends up being the best forum post ever.
