Good luck dude! What the others said. Now, if only every server owner would think to say "I WONDER IF MY SERVER IS LAGGING RIGHT NOW" every time they went to the bathroom, we'd all be much happier and you might never have been teleported. I swear, some people must pay for 30 days, start em up, then forget about them for the other 29 days.

need somebody to show me the ropes in game, cant figure this out...
HMS replied to Octanee's topic in New Player Discussion
OP: You're not actually doing anything wrong. The game is exactly what you have found it to be. My first day / first few lives were HELL. I am eternally grateful for that experience. The fact is that you are COMPLETELY defenseless against Zs without a weapon, and then if you have a firearm, you are in most cases far worse off if you decide to use it, so use it wisely. On to the particulars of your frustration. Definitely heed the information posted in this thread regarding stealth and breaking contact with Zs. Definitely play through the Arma2 infantry tutorial. Yes the engine and mechanics really are that bad. If you choose to use an external map site, be sure you take note of the "city" location on the lower right corner of the screen as soon as you spawn. You will not get this again. As far as not finding anything useful - you are probably the runt of the litter that made it last to the spawns. It sucks.Keep going, the apocalypse is seriously messed up. One more hint: you are probably not using your backpack correctly. You are probably not actually using it at all. :) Good luck! -
Why the F did you bait those guys with the car? That's decidedly unsportsmanlike. ANYONE can lie. What's the point?

How do you know when you are officially a bandit?

It's not a turban. -
There should be a simple answer for this, and yet there is still confusion. I don't understand how that can be. On the DayZ Wiki, there is a chart listing all the weapons, and the damage they do. The As50 is something like 5 Triillion blood points per hit, so it is most definitely a 1 shot kill. But, the wiki doesn't differentiate between a body shot and a head shot. Data exists for one, and it should exist for the other. No? So, whoever figured out the data for the wiki: can you answer these questions?

Note to any potential new customers: You should not expect any of these statements to be factual.

I have been playing since August 1st almost every single day and only experienced 2 times where I was killed by something that seemed fishy. I guess all our mileages may vary. That said, why any game would have the inherent ability to allow scripts to be run on a client and affect the gameplay on a server and other clients is beyond me. From the extensive interviews Rocket has been doing, I get the message that anti-hack and security seem to be the priority with their team right now. I guess I am ready to trust that and will be forking over the $10 or whatever it is on day 1.

This is one of the most entertaining DayZ videos out there. Everything from the impossibly bad reverse-static-delay on that one dude's mic to the phone ringing the Good The Bad and The Ugly at the best time possible combined to make a work of genius. I wish I was playing with you guys. Well done. -
Forget the crowbar dude. It's completely bugged at this point. There's no point in even getting into what you could do to get it to work. Drop it and move on before you are forced to try to use it and get killed.

Jeez, you lost me at "brah". Anyone else need blood?

If you are at an active "new stuff source", like, in front of a car, or tent, or staring at a pile o' junk on the floor, then hit G, THEN open your backpack, you will see the visual representation of the backpack, its items, and its available slots. If you are NOT at an active "new stuff pile", like say you are just running through the woods and decide to check inside your pack to see if you have a spare can of MelloYello, then you don't get to see the visual. You only get the list view. Another non-intuitive pain in the nads, but if they change it now I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

Dude, the world is ending and you don't even have fucking FOOD. You should be trying to survive.
-
Hey whoever runs US 3082 What is your restart schedule? When did you last restart? It's running a bit choppy. Thanks.

Dude you gotta re-write this whole thing. Empty water bottles and even empty cans are more useful than any gun, for the most part, when you are just starting. Explain how to break the hospital glass. (note you said cans were not useful). Explain why you want what's inside - and why you can't use half the stuff in there on yourself. Re-write it with an eye toward explaining how to survive the first 5 or 10 minutes, and a goal of getting enough stuff to survive the next 30. Also how to learn from your death in minute 31. Good job on the axe, but you forgot to explain that it needs to be reloaded. Nobody expects that, even if they are lucky enough to find an axe when they first start out.

Bicycle: hands down the best item/vehicle/character/feature of this game.
-
Do you mean the Zombies that spawn, walking around the crash? There's a particular Z model that looks more like a pilot than the others, and he has NVG on his face?
-
Anyone notice how DayZ is becoming less and less survival oriented, and is now filled with PVP-ing CoD kiddies?
HMS replied to ornatecocoapuff's topic in New Player Discussion
No way am I reading all 3 pages, but this thread treads too close to the Bandit vs Survivor gripes from the old days (2 months ago). That said, the OP is absolutely right, and so is BrandNew11980. There is nothing to do after a certain point. I can only move my vehicles so they aren't found so many times. -
DayZ Tutorial : Wanna Get Better? (MUST WATCH)
HMS replied to AnAtomicPenguin.'s topic in New Player Discussion
I started watching it feeling a bit grumpy, thinking there are enough of these already. But you actually did it well and kept the viewer engaged, so thank you sir! I would mention: the military flashlight does differ a bit more than just the color, as the actual cone of light is smaller and much dimmer, so you can potentially use it at night without turning on the 20th Century Fox floodlights announcing where you are. And you can cook meat over some of those barrels you can light in some towns such as the tents in Berenzino. That came in handy when I had meat and a knife, but had lost my hatchet and couldn't find matches to save my life. -
Did you install and run the games yet? The thread is jumping the gun here a little bit. You have a potential adventure ahead just in getting the thing to run properly. Get that happening, then just play. You will have nothing, and you will die with even less. You have to learn this feeling to understand what it is like to have literally nothing to fight a zombie with. You will be in that situation more often than not. Don't worry about vehicles or even guns. You aren't going to be getting any for a while.

In case this is helpful: I have gotten this error before and then joining a different server worked. Good luck!
-
Or just hunt this guy. Edit: FORGOT THE SMILEY ;)
-
You've reached the end-game where the result is a mix of ultimate thrill and absolute boredom. Do you have a "camp" where you keep stuff? I am not kidding here: you can help others who have recently died by helping them with one or two essentials that are a pain in the nads to get sometimes: map, compass, etc. But there is really not much to do and so many people who will kill you. EDIT: Bus-man totally called it. Get the bus.

Well, that overblown response is just going to make more people want to lay down more barbed wire on your server. Kindly return my beans, sir. Please and thank you.

Found a bunch of players standing on UAZ spawn
HMS replied to skoda's topic in New Player Discussion
Was there a corresponding number of players in the server playerlist? If you were flying over real people, there is no way that one of the 8 wouldn't be scanning the skies to look for you or take cover.
