IMO he should have created a great game BEFORE he started going to conferences and rubbing shoulders with the leet game designer crowd. If anybody is getting that kind of recognition, it should really be the people who created ARMA 2. I will gladly eat my words if the standalone is as good as the hype they are trying to generate/maintain suggests. I will not be surprised, however, if it flops. Modders - I salute you. Sorry I didnt read all yr posts so dunno if someone has mentioned this. There are a couple of mods for arma 2 that would make life more interesting (and death). The ACE (advanced combat environment) mod for a start, as it adds things like weapon jamming and wind drift (you try hitting a target at 600m in a strong wind) and most importantly the bunny hop mod (http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=17547) so I can jump fences as I flee! Anyway, it would be cool if some of these mods were incorporated into Dayz. Just sayin....

Interesting little showdown you are having. The bottom line OP, is that you should be grateful to Blood and Hull for providing you with a server to play on. It is a question of morals and ethics, to expect them to be fair as well. I have played on their server. I was seeking a haven (or at least some respite) from haxors, they are trying to provide it, I am grateful. Yr so funny. Dayz is a mod for Arma 2. You are playing Arma 2. The massive assumption that you know what you are talking about is wrong. And just to clarify, without the amazing engine that BIS produced many years ago, you wouldn't have a Dayz community to proclaim that you are a part of. I am consistently blown away by the talent and dedication of the modding community. Proves you don't need a high salary to create great products. It's a shame when people whose only talent is exploitation usually try to hijack it. I have more faith in people like yourself OP than I do in the industry. I will vote for DayZ. In the full knowledge that voting for anything is a complete waste of time. Surely the support this Mod has gained from word of mouth should be all the encouragement you need to create a brilliant game. Hype should only be required to sell something that is actually shit and make people rich despite that. Advertising has become the art of deceit. If you can't find someone willing to sufficiently bankroll this game by now, perhaps it is ego or attitude getting in the way. If the conduct of the moderators on the official DayZ forum is anything to go by, I would say both. Arma 2 is an awesome game. DayZ is an awesome Mod. BIS are a visionary company that does not follow conventional market trends. I love this about BIS. But I am sure they will never get rich on my love. What ruined DayZ for me, was the popularity of it, and it's subsequent targeting by people that don't want to follow the rules. If the aim of the developers is to get as many people playing the standalone as possible, then the developers better be putting in some serious (and working) enforcement for playing by the rules. A game (any game) needs rules, in order to be a fair game. If the developers are planning on releasing a standalone they hope will have the popularity of DayZ (at it's height), without protecting the community from cheaters, it will fail. Sure, a lot of people will still buy it (me included), but they will tell their friends NOT to buy it, if they are disappointed. This Mod did not grow this big through conventional media hype. Why are you all so focussed on conventional media hype? If Rocket sees himself as a PR man now, then hand the project over to someone who will bury themselves in the work, and then Rocket can tell us all how wonderfully it is going. Has Rocket played on many public servers? I watched an interview where he indicated how he plays and it seemed to me that he must be playing a single player version. Proning to avoid zombies? That is a great way to get shot by any KOS players. Having a dog? This is going to be far less useful than having a bicycle. Bicycles work fine, I am betting that dogs wont. Will a dog be as hard to find as a bicycle? because if that is the case you are wasting your time adding them because it is almost impossible to find a bicycle.

I would say you got haxored or were extremely unlucky. Sounds like you have a great attitude to survival though.

My turn. Don't go to Cherno, Elektro, Stary Sobor or NW airfield. If you insist on going to these places, be very careful when you do, and don't be surprised if you DIE. Doing so on a server with very few people on it is safer but still extremely dangerous. Snipers and haxors love these places, because so do you. There are vast areas on the map where you can spend weeks and you will likely not encounter anyone else. If you are not a complete pussy, you can go to Berezino (2 supermarkets, 2 sets of apartments, 2 hospitals and even some military tents), snipers and haxors are too lazy and/or impatient to go up there (and maybe so are all of you guys who want all the pointless killing to stop). Go to Vybor, you might even find a helicopter crash site on the way. Have you ever found one? I doubt it, because you are all running straight to Cherno hoping to score an awesome AK-74 and be sniper bait. Did you know there is a NE airfield? Folks rarely go there either, it is even rumoured to be a chopper spawn. If you want a vehicle, chances are you are going to have to take it off someone else, or at least compete with someone else who wants it. Guess what? They are carrying guns. Zombies don't carry guns, but zombies don't fly helicopters either. Use the teamspeak server (that most server admins offer), to find a friend to share your tent on green mountain with. After all, you want to trust them, put a little effort into finding them. If you really want me to stop sniping you with whatever I can find (and I know plenty of tents full of duped shit I don't even bother with), make me look for you. I don't care about losing my gear because I only need a rifle and some binoculars. I don't want your compass or your matches, if I wanted those I would go to Berzino and dodge zombies for them. It's more fun than getting my ass shot off in Cherno. Instead of trying to adapt the game to your play-style, adapt your play-style to the game. If it makes you feel any better, haxors find me and kill me all the time, which annoys me. I guess it is my own fault tho really, cos I love murderin in Cherno. Your gear will not help your character survive longer but your experience and your wisdom will. Loot is cool, blind pursuit of it is foolish. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, is just stoopid. The game you are talking about in your post is not DayZ, it sounds more like The War Z. It is only recently I discovered why I can never find a CZ, or the damn ammo. And it was not through lack of looking. Well it seems the skiddies and haxors are getting bored. Now that most of the people who legitimately play the game have given up and are playing something else, the new pass time for the pathetic, is barbed wire and sandbagging. I am sure their mum's will be forced to fork out for a new game soon, as they have all but destroyed this one. I am so glad I never had children. I wouldn't want to feel any responsibility for the state of the society, I leave behind, when I shuffle off this mortal coil. I used to think that older folks lamenting the 'good old days' came from a lack of understanding in the new. I think I was wrong on that front. Sooooo, I would like to offer my apologies to all the skiddies and haxors, for being better at this game than they are. I am sorry I have more patience, sorry I have a better tactical understanding of the big picture, sorry that I enjoy a challenge and I am especially sorry that I participated in making you feel bad enough, to cause you to spoil the fun of thousands of others. You can fix the artifacting yourself by changing the graphics resolution or video memory in the options when it happens. It will happen again and you can fix it again.
