WTF is happening to the server community.

There's always going to be chaos in an Apocalypse, until people settle somewhere, but since you can't really "secure" a place in DayZ given zombies continuously respawn there's no way of truly settling down, meaning that players will run around and scavenge until a certain point, then they'll be looking for challenges... If PVP isn't going to be a main drive of this game, but instead a more realistic aspect to it, there needs to be features which allows players to "build a society" in some regard, to structure the world. Player owned property as have been mentioned plentiful. The whole thing is a huge mind-boggle in terms of game design though, next generation thinking in order to make it come together. Overall, everyone should just take a breather, sit back and provide some constructive feedback while awaiting what changes are in for the future. This is still alpha, and an alpha of a mod that did not expect to garner this amount of attention, so cut them some slack, chill, and let's all air out some ideas on how this mod can continue to be a great opportunity.
  2. Yes. No one should be able to communicate without radios and those radios should have frequencies. They'd be applicable for both text and voice. Standardized 'search' channels/frequencies for *SOS*/"all-talk" would be good though.

  4. The thing is also that the sprinters stop up for a second or two where you have a chance to pop one of them at a time (or more depending on weapon). People also "just" bottle them up into buildings since they then walk slowly. I believe that if it is possible via the engine and so forth, that zombies could be made slower, walking zombies to fast walking zombies, could even be a few fast ones -- but still much slower than the current ones -- mixed in and that would be fine as well. NPC speed alone isn't the ultimate answer though. If they are to be slow they need a more sort of hive mentality, and most likely a higher sensibility for gun shots. So if you fire a shot in town (outdoors) you will 100% attract some zombies, and other zombies might follow them, becoming a horde or at least a group, then starting to circle your building etc - if they can ever learn to respect doors. Top of that zombie migrations, if they bottle up and someone runs out of town, or whatever would happen, making the landscape quite more interesting and dangerous. I'm not sure if it is actually feasible within the ArmA2 engine to create a more avid zombie world, or if the bottleneck is simply server power, but if it were achievable I'm overly confident it would make for a better and more challenging gameplay. One where people wouldn't murder each other so easily either, since they'd rather want someone on their side than against.

Rocket's Video of the week: 25 May 2012

Very funny video, excellent spot and pick. It really begs for the discussion of why so many decide to DM each other all of the sudden, one IMO due to how zombies currently are.

    WALKING ZOMBIES

To be honest though, thinking about why exactly people shoot each other so much, one thing is really that the zombies are so insanely fast, I would honestly prefer much slower zombies, but more of them, and in a more horde/swarm-minded fashion. Plus hordes of migrating zombies going from town to town! If they were slower people wouldn't be so afraid of going to loot a few more supplies for each other. Scavenging in a town would still be dangerous, if you make enough noise or get seen they'll still swarm your location meaning you bug out or set up a defence. Today everyone just bottle-neck the zombies in some building, because that slows them down to normal speed instead of warp speed, so either way people are "bypassing" the fast zombies, let's just make them normal zombies then. There can still be some fast runners in-between though but they should be slower than the current. I'm confident that if zombies and their behaviour were tweaked we could severely limit the amount of random killing. It would also encourage people to work together more instead of preying on each other to survive just a little longer. It also wouldn't make the game less hard, on the contrary it would make for a better and more challenging game-play.

    Framerate issues

There isn't anything you can do to fix it, just wait for rocket to release a hotfix tomorrow as he already announced. The actual problem is within the new patch, so if you want to play today without issues don't update DayZ and play on the servers that haven't been updated, otherwise you'll have to suffer through the performance loss. Could always revert to an older version too.

    Tape #11: 05-21-2012

This sounds professional, very nice job. My highest regards to the work. Several games have 'Audio Tapes' you can find and listen to, they definitely add to the atmosphere, if it can be done in DayZ that would be tremendous, but I'm not sure as to how the engine/modding exactly works here.

Get over it? Yeah, NO. Acceptance of malicious acts is the worst and a big reason why everything in general is in the shitter. Justice needs to be served, perpetrators should not walk free, ever. Ban them, all of them, then feast on their tears. If heart = soft, make it temporary. I hope rocket and his admins have the tenacity to take on this kind of behaviour, a lot of games/mods unfortunately do not and thus these types of malicious personalities persists to torment the peaceful gamers.
