    Game will not open

Since the update today (dec 13th 2018) I cannot get the game to open. I have deleted it and reinstalled the game without success. I tried verifying the files as well but it does not help. I downloaded the Beta op-out. Could this be the problem? I want to play the new 1.0 Beta and not the experimental or legacy version. When trying to play, steam opens and then Dayz pops up in the taskbar but then disappears.
  2. I enjoy gathering loot and storing it away so that should I die, I have a ready source of supply when respawning. My favorite medium is barrels as they are so much easier to stash compared to camping and military tents. The latter two as always high visibility and with the new foliage in .62 there is no place you can hide them and hope people will walk past and not see them. Anyway... Barrels... I was wondering about the spawn mechanics of the barrels themselves. Are there a fixed number of barrels that will spawn on a private, persistent server? Does a barrel need to become abandoned for a new one to spawn of do barrels just keep spawning in sheds at a fixed probability ratio no matter how many are in the game? In the former case, there would be an abundance of barrels after a server wipe but at some point, the only time a new barrel would appear, would be after a barrel is taken out of play due to it no longer have had interaction for a set number of days (how long is this exactly). This would mean looking for them would be more or less fruitless as the time after to last server wipe past.

Barrel spawn on persistant private servers

Indeed I have heard both 7 days and 45 days. That is thexreason I asked. I tend to believe 45 days as I have left barrels for a week without looking at them and still found them where I left them. Perhaps the 7 day limit is for cars and trucks. I once wrecked a car along a road and it was still there 2 weeks later. A bit long I think but if people kept going over for a look it would persist. I was hoping it would respawn. Fish.

    Your Goals?

My goal is completely dependent on the game. If I can get onto an experimental server where food and inventory in hard to come by, my goal is to get kitted out, and then collect as much food as I can. I then open the food and place it in vests, cargo pants of military shirts and head for the coast. Any bambis I come across get a free bit of clothing full of food and advice to head inland ASAP. When I run run out, I head back north and stock up again. Killing those who get greedy or make it their goal to take out bambis is an added bonus. But in general most of those I come across on the coast are quite greatful for both the food and a piece of high capacity clothing to store their meager finds in. HOWEVER If I and stuck on stable where the food is literally everywhere and ammo is too plentiful to take it all, I get bored very fast and end up taking up a strategic position with my mosin and shooting those raidig high loot places. Hell on these kind of servers you will be fully geared again in an hour or so anyway so what is the big loss? Sinds the last 0.52 update the difference between stable and experimental has becomed rather blurred for me. I find it hard to know exactly what kind of server I am on by anything other than the charator that spawns. I have one guy who is completely geared and with enough food for an entire clan while the other one has next to nothing and is living on berries and apples. Sadly when a server resets there is no way to find out which server you were last playing on. My history list is so full as to be useless. If only there was a button to sort it chronologically or better yet wipe it clean from time to time. Fish

    Axe degradation

I have found myself a tent and now have a little camp with all the comforts of home. I hunt, fish and cook on a fire as much as I can. I avoid the hot spots and only venture into town when I really need to. The only down side is now that I am chopping wood, the condition of my axe is going down hill fast. My axe is my primary weapon when going into the town. I would rather be without my gun than my axe. Other players you can avoid but Zeds are inevitable. I like the fire axe but if I want a new one it is going to mean returning to a fire station. God I hate going there! The place is one big death trap. So, in game we can repair our clothing, backpacks, vests, shoes and guns... Why can't we repair the axe? How hard could it be to sharpen it on a stone or replace the handle with a bit of ash wood. We have stones and we have ash wood sticks. No new items need be added, just the process of crafting the repair? What do you say? Is it do-able?

    Axe degradation

Ah I didn't realise you could only repair the axe once uit reached "Badly Damaged". I was assuming I worked like the sewing kits and would improve up to a status of "Worn". Thx mate.

This game and trust go good together

One of the reasons I perfer experimental is that the attitude is so different. To start out with, everyone is struggling. Players with full kit, automatic weapons, loads of ammo and food are a rare sight indeed. With luck you make it off the coast, find some food, an axe and a gun with a few rounds of ammo to go with it. Then you are sitting pretty indeed. Never been helped more often or helped so many other as I do on experimental. I'd rather have a kitchen knife and matches so I can skin a animal and cook it than have an M4 instead. We have even resorted to taking a truck and running over the cows to get food because we had no weapon to shoot with. Resoursefulness pays off big time! Being nice doesn't always work and you do get killed now and then but in general I feel it works out The difference is that the experimental servers have occupancy of about 85% in the course of 24 hours. There are less of them so people crowd onto whatever is available. The coast gets depleted with a couple of hour of all the look respawning. Thank goodness for Red Berries, Wells and Apples. So nice to play a real survival game instead of some strange version of Battlefield III with zombies.

    Megaloot Cleanup Tomorrow

One of the servers I play on lost the persistant clump spawn but in the mean time it is now reappeared someplace (better) else. I just filled up with 4 high capacity backpacks, an AK74 with ywo clips and a bunch of ammo for my M4. :D.

    Camo Tents

I just pitched my first tent in Standalone and I must say it is a quite a different look to the camo pup tent I was used to using in the mod. What I mean to say is that this tent sticks out like a sore thumb. It is litterally visable for hundreds of meters distance. This doesn't give me much peace of mind as to the safety of the tent itself or anything being strored inside it. I think it would be very cool to be able to use spray paint and disguise the tent a little, much in the way the camo is added to the mosin with black and green spray paint. The paint is already in the game so there would no need to add new items to the loot spawn. The difficulty level could be increased by making it nessesary to use several cans of each color seeing as the tent represents a much larger surface area. Perhaps the paint could even be made to wear off requiring a new application or even fall off of the tent every time it is packed up. All in all this would increase the security of the tent slightly making their use more attractive. This would also stimulate a lifestyle other than roving and looting while adding another crafting skill to the game. Fish

    duping is out of control

Lol I guess you are right Mookie. A bit down in the dumps right now. The tent I found and placed on our low population clanserver has been nicked along with 5 others spread across the map in less than an hour. My guess is an esp hack.

    Still buggy tents

I placed my first tent find on a low population server this afternoon after server mainenance was over. Inside I placed a few random items to test it out. I then closed the tent and logged out. Fourty minutes later the server reset and when I returned one hour after setting up the tent was still there BUT the contents were gone and the flap was open. I tried closing the flap but even though the command close the flap appears, nothing happens when I click it. The tent stays open. and I cannot repack the tent. I had a chat with the server admin/owner and she told me only a couple of peopl had been on the server in the last hour. Taking into concidration the vey remote location and the amount of cover the tent is place in, I can only surmise that it is a bug in the tent code itself. Ah well... It was a nice idea al least. Too bad, I was so looking forward to this tent. I still am but i guess now is just not the time. ( Read Update Below)

    Still buggy tents

Well it looks like the tents are not yet safe to use. On the server I frequent we had 5 tents among us. In the space of 30 minutes they were all suddenly gone. My buddy found a couple of them moved 200 meters from where they had been but they were gone 10 minutes later. I went back to my tent and it was gone as well. No server reset had taken place and there was just one clan member, myself and a single stranger on the server. My guess is it was an esp hack and they just stole all the tents. There is no way someone could find all the tents on a low population server in such a short time. Most likely dissapeared onto a password locked server where we will never see them again. Hackers win again

    duping is out of control

I just want to add that I have infact met one of the guys doing this. It was NOT an exploit but a scripted hack. He was able to give me 6 MP5 clips and everyone else and weapon they wished at a moments notice. I declined, but i saw the items appear on the ground. It was tempting though! ;)

Weapon cleaning kits are not useless!

I wish it worked on the fire axe. Since getting a tent and doing more hunting and cooking my axe has degraded at a quick pace. How hard would it be to sharpen an axe or replace the handle?

    Camo Tents

I thing much of the reason tent don't get raided as much as you might think is the fact that they are so buggy at the moment. If I go to my tent for the first time after a server reset the contents are often completely invisable. I keep a specific slot empty and if I place something there to contents suddenly appear again. So, a tent raider might look inside, see nothing but be unable to steal the tent either. Trying to place an item inside will not work either unless you know where the free slot is at. I spent one hour to find the perfect spot and it was only visiblefrom one side in a distance for about 10-15 meters. The vegetation was my camo and thats how it should be. You must have been very lucky to find it Without a doubt finding the right spot is the key to having a tent and keeping the items inside safe. I have a feeling that most people will be setting them on the northern edge of the map. There are lots of bolders and crannies where a tent may be hard to find. The down side is that will make it a nasty long trudge to put things inside it or reach it as a new spawn to get yourself kitted out again quickly.I think it is a better choice to take a slightly greater risk and keep it more central. I have been keeping notes of suitable places since my days on the mod. My own tent is also in a sparsly traveled region and pretty well hidden. To be honest I have trouble finding it myself Myself, I am keeping my tent as a backup with all the luxuries I need to set up my charactor with full kit so he can start again without visiting all the dangerious spots as a bambi... A gun, axe, ammo, jacket, pants, vest, backpack, bandages and food.
  20. FishGuts4Lunch

    Still buggy tents

Well I seem to have made a bit of progress with the tents... Yes, everything apparently was still inside and placing an item in the tent will for the most part make them reappear. I made the stupid mistake of filling the tent to max capacity yesterday and after the server reset I could no longer place an item inside it to make the tent show me it's contents. I was fairly certain that I was screwed at that point BUT low and behold this morning I could see some of the items. I was able to remove and replace several items and see the entire contents at some point. The tents as rather buggy at first and even innitially dupped the full mountain packpack inside twice. I did a Happy dance at this point as being against exploits I don't look a gift horse in the mouth either ;) . Sadly the two extra backpacks were gone a few minutes later but on the bright side, ALL my gear was intact and could be accessed. I have now promissed myself to leave a certain slot in the tent free at all times as this will give me a place to "unlock" the contents by placing an item from my inventory in this space. This causes the tent's contents to become visable. Who knows, perhaps this will act as a sort of safety to keep people from plundering it's contents. If they look inside, there is a chance they see nothing but at the same time they cannot steal the tent because it it full. One other little idiosyncrasy I came across happens when stacking Inventory. I have some jackets, vests and pants in the tent which I naturally filled with items before I place them. But every now and then an article of clothing will refuse to let itself be placed in the tent. If I empty the slots, there is no longer a problem. I can even place the items in the clothing once it is place in the tent. BUT if I put the item of clothing back on my body or try to move it inside the tent, the same thing happens again. I believe it has something to do with the items themselves and not the piece of clothing. Inside the pants I placed a mosin compensator, 5 composit arrows and 3 boxes of mosin ammo (if I remember correctly). But at the end of the day it is all in the tent and safe. I am just wondering what I will do with it all come Tuesday night when the tent must be backed up to keep it from being wiped during server maintenance. The last thing I wasn is to lose my tent!

    Water purification

I know at some point drinking water from an open sorce, e.g. a stream or lake as opposed to a water bottle of well is going to mean having to use water purification tablets or risk getting ill. So my thought is, would it be possible to put water in a pot and boil it on a fire, let it cool and then pour it into a canteen or drink it directly and thus avoid the need to scavange for purification tablets or risk getting killed while drinking at a well? ;)
  22. FishGuts4Lunch

    Water purification

Yes but if, as I suspect items of food and drink become more scarce in the future then boiling water would be a great asset!
  23. FishGuts4Lunch

how has the dry wells affected your gameplay

No, At this moment it is safe to drink all sources of water without purification.

    Cooked meat and healing

Hi there, I have recently started playing DayZ again after a break at the end of version 0.48. I had the good fortune to start directly after the 0.50 patch came out. One of the things that became very apparent in 0.50 was how much harder I need to work to get my character to regenerate health after a zombie hit. Were as in the old days my health would start healing as soon as it was hit, nowadays the window for health regeneration has gotten much smaller. Damage will often drop you below the threshold of healing making it necessary to eat something first to get healing started. I don't consider this to be a bad thing at the moment. I did come across what I consider to be a small exception to the rule regarding eating cooked meat... Unable to resist taking a shot at roaming game, I took down a deer, butchered it and put several of the steaks into my pack. My hope was to make a cozy little campfire somewhere and have a bit of a pick nick. When the time came to start cooking, I was in a bit of a sorry state after 4 Zeds had ganged up on me and managed to glitch in a few hits. I made a fire, cooked the steaks and started having my dinner. Looking at my health bar I noticed something quite extraordinary... Where as normally you need to get your energized and hydration levels up to bright green before healing will start, now I was healing with a bright green energized bar but both the healing and hydration bars were dark green. NEVER seen this before. It would seem to me that cooking and eating meat now gives a player and extra level up health wise compared to eating out of a can. Are you low on health? Have a BBQ and let me know if it makes any difference to how quickly you begin to heal! Time to do a bit of hunting! This woual seem to be another adaptation to making living off the land a bit more appealing. Indeed in the real would after a collapse of civelazation canned food would start to fet quite scarce rather quickly and living off the land becomes increasingly more important. I don't know... I kinda like it. B)

I believe before 0.50 you are correct. My experiance at the moment is that the bar has been raised slightly. Has anyone else had the same experiance?
