Why the dayz formula will ultimately fail
FishGuts4Lunch replied to randalmcdaniels's topic in General Discussion
I always head inland right away. I manage to find plenty of loot as well provided nobody has been there before I have arrived. I found three different guns in Dubrovka, NW of Berizino along with loads of food last evening. No empty buildings there. -
If You Could Add Anything To DayZ What Would You Add And Why?
FishGuts4Lunch replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
I would add... DOGS! Not just dogs but let players be able to spawn as a dog, We could form roaming packs of feral dogs and hunt in the woods for the growling rabbits. We'd rip the odd Zed to pieces now and then and when times got hard we could accept the friendship of a survivior who would feed us beans and sardines because we can't hold a can opener with our paws. They could give us meds when wounded and bandage out zombie bites. The beans and sardines would make us fart! The F buttons on the keyboard would be F1 = wag tail, F2 = roll over, F3 = sit up, F5 Bare teeth, F6 = point etc. Direct communication would only allow us to make dog noises. And of course we get to howl at the moon and scare the crap out of surviviors. What would you think if you heard a dog capable of doing you damage, howling in the woods close by? In the game loot you would have dog collars of all types... pink bows or bandanas to steel spikes. Have backpacks that would allow the dog to carry items for humans he befriends. You could choose what kind of dog you were... Standard poodle, terrier, german shepard or mastif. Each dog would have different food requirements strengths and weaknesses. So you could be a big powerful mastif but need to drink and eat constantly compared to the terrier. Dogs should also be able to shit Ok can I get a big woof? -
what do you guys do when you meet zombies without weapons?
FishGuts4Lunch replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely! Guns are for other players in my book. All a zombie needs is an axe. No ammo wasted, no alerting every other zombie or bandit within earshot. Indeed the ideal weapon -
As the game develops there will be an ever increasing level of challenge just to survive and hang on to what you have. Think about disease, infection, cold, damp, shelter and add to that the fun of bikes, cars and trucks and trying to get them to work and not having them stolen!

Have you/have you not seen a hacker?
FishGuts4Lunch replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
I stopped playing the mod because I just couldn't stand all the hackers. This is sooo much better! There may be one or two hacks but i'm sure that most of them get weeded out in the updates or by the anti cheats. I am so much more satified with the way things are now -
what do you guys do when you meet zombies without weapons?
FishGuts4Lunch replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
I have two similar strategies I like to use. STRATEGY #1: Pied Piper On the coast and near a harbor or a pier I like to make a long sweep through the town and attract attetion of as many Zeds as I can find. Then I string them along down to the harbor making the occasional loop back to pick up any that have stopped running. I have managed in the past to pick up as many as eight in one go in Electro. Then I run along the quay and cut off at a right angle onto the pier / jetty. The zombies of course cut the corners and as a result drop into the harbor. If you are on a sandy beach instead of deep water then it is best to wait at the end of the pier until the zombies walk out to where you are at, then run back to the town. By the time the (slower) zombies reach the shore line you are well out of range. They then collect on the shore as a surprise for the next survivior to come along. STRATEGY #2: Picknick Time This is pretty much the same as the first plan but without a harbor to drop them into. So instead we lead them out of the town and into the woods until they are far enough away so that we leave them stranded out of range before we are back in the area we wish to seach. If you come across addtional zombies in the town the lead these in the opposite direction so you don't end up attracting the zombies you just got rid of back to the town. The result of the strategy is once again a whole bus load of Zeds in the middle of the woods or a field. So if you have just found a cozy spot in the woods to log off in and all of a sudden find a whole crap load of Zeds desending on your position... Well sorry guys that was most likely me, but now they are your problem :P -
Here are a list of as many of the default key setting used in Dayz Standalone Alpha. I'm surprised in wasn't posted before this. I did see a list on the DayZ wiki but this was incomplete (I have modified it now) But here is a a copy of the list. Please feel free to add any keys I may have forgotten... Movement W Move Forward. F1 Wave F2 Surrender with hands up F3 Sit down F4 Give the middle finger (can be changed in options menu if desired). F5 Clap hands. F6 Point with hand. F7 Thumbs up These are pretty much all I could think of. Several, like the single shot option for the M4-A1 took me a while to discover and then only by accident. I hope this helps new players on their way a bit more quickly as well as vets from the mod like me who haven't played for a while and need a bit of refreshing. If I forgot any please post and I will add it to the list! Fishguts

Default Keyboard Settings List

Did it work for you Piggy? -
That absolutely rocked! Beanz!

Very true, The only time I have ever been able to talk to someone in the game is on the coast when we are both still virgin Bambi's. Then it is actually quite cool. Even if he kills me I have nothing to lose and will most likely spawn close having only lost a little bit of time. I did meet a guy once at the NWA and we both had next to nothing and that went off quite well. we came across each other 2 minutes later and he had found and axe. Then it was a different story. He gave me the chop without so much as a how do you do.

Default Keyboard Settings List
FishGuts4Lunch replied to FishGuts4Lunch's topic in New Player Discussion
Piggy, go to the menu (either the one at the startup or press esc in game) and use Configure go to Controls then Assignments. The second line will now read Infantry Movements > Press the > and select Interact from the dropdown menu. Try pressing Default and see if it all works now. If not you can reset it by hand in the tab. -

Simply awesome dude. I would have been pissing myself! Beanz to you! :D -
The problem with adding tents lies in making them retain their position and items across the entire hive I believe

Has anyone accidently shot their friend?
FishGuts4Lunch replied to maxotaur's topic in General Discussion
I had it happen once when we 4 were being sniped on we hunkerd down when suddenly iI see someone run across. I told everyone not to move to see if it was one of us. The character kept moving so i shot and killed him. It turned out to be one of our own who was having a bit of lagand was still moving. I felt pretty dumb. -
You will fair well until you come across your first player in the game who will most likely kill you. IMHO the only people who are not a danger to you in the game are bambis who have nothing to attack you with and even those guys need watching.
-
Just what the game needs... more heavy weapons... NOT. Hey dude, how about some morters and RPGs?
-
Really nice. It is meeting up with that kind of people that makes playing DayZ truely fun. He may have died but with luck he took a few of the bandits with him. And in the mean time he has respawned, is gearing up and will do the same again.
-
The worse part (for me) is the game will usually choose to freeze for a moment the minute I try to axe a Zed. The outcome in most cases is me getting an extra gouge. :( Anyway, from the scuttlebutt I'm hearing there will be a fix come monday. I'm just keeping my head down (and my gear) until then.

General "DayZ freezes after new Patch (0.34)" and "FPS drop" discussion
FishGuts4Lunch replied to Satanicraven's topic in Troubleshooting
I spawned in hardcore as a bambi and no trouble. playing alone on en empty server still gives me problems in regular mode. -
AH! So I don't need to strip naked to repair clothes?

A new idea to stop the "kill-on-sight" mentality
FishGuts4Lunch replied to Beetlejuice (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I'm ok with it IF bandits are allowed to suck out ur brains and steal your knowledge! -
Yes but just to make sure... Can I play hardcore with one character and still retain my other character on a Regular server without fear of either one or the other being deleted? My regular game character is fully kitted out and I am quite careful with it. I almost peed my pants when i logged onto a hardcore server and found myself back on the coast. I was much relieved when I logged back onto a regular server and still had all my stuff. At the moment I am experiancing major FPS issues with the regular servers and will not be playing on them until this is fixed. I was lead to believe the problem lies in some of the pre patch gear somehow slowing the FPS to almost 0 in my case. If I could start a new (read separate) character on a hardcore server This would give me an oppertunity to play while i wait for a fix.

Deans wants to bring Base Building Mechanics from Dead Linger - video
FishGuts4Lunch replied to TEST_SUBJECT_83's topic in General Discussion
yes I like the idea of an underground base. Camoflage the entrance in rocks or a bush. Make it worth searching as something to loot would be a cool extra demention to the game as well. Nope I have no problem with underground! Much better than a clunky big fort screaming "LOOT ME!!!" -

Let us be glad the women charaters aren't growing them. It might stop us from trying to repopulate Chenarus -
What Type of Bases do You Want to See in DayZ
FishGuts4Lunch replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
I'd like to see used car dealerships Or how about a shopping mall?
