Thanks for all the answers, some of them helped alot, some of them didn't. About the $$$. Uh do I really need to go into that... Okay. The page says there are 1 678 098 survivous out there now. As far as I know, everyone has to buy the game in order to play it. The game costs 23€ but for this purpose only let's say it's 20. Now one MILLION six hundred seventy eight thousand and ninety-eight survivors times 20 is ? 339 561 960 €. Now I really have no idea if I'm calculating this right, but even if i'm only a bit close, that is a LOT of money. Don't even try to tell me they don't have enough funds. Not trying to fight here, so by all means, if i'm wrong i'm sorry and just simply correct me. Thanks for your answer bro. About the music - ughh well, it is indeed more realistic, but when you're running arround for 30 minutes and literally nothing special happens, and it even is a sunny day - nothing scary. No atmosphere there. And I don't like playing background music from the pc because that's just... well, it's mostly about the fact that I try to keep my PC as clean as possible during playing DayZ as it's really old and running on the edge - any lesser software or anything turned on in the background makes me drop a few crucial FPS. Also I don't know what to listen to. Anyone knows any good songs, something creepy and similar to the original DayZ mod music ?

Oh mate is that a challenge? Coz I'm pretty sure I'd win every single first prize on that contest. :D Ah well but I am getting better, I sure am. Yesterday, I was looting NEA with a friend, not very populated server. We didn't really care so we were just runnin arround like dumbheads, singing mission impossible song. Well it seems that the guys in the comm tower didn't like it, started shooting at us. Well then we kinda had them in the tower, they barricaded the doors and were just waiting inside. And I, as the biggest dumbass ever, I just ran to the doors, because "THEY ARE CLOSED IM SO MUCH SAFE NOW" yea sure he just shot me through the window. Well that's not it. Guess what? He didn't kill me and my friend managed to give me a saline bag somehow without being seen. So I got back to the wall, just under the window. Now, I thought to myself: Well the guy had shot me through the window for 100%, so what do I do? I ran just to the same spot where he shot me. Needles to say this time it was fatal for me. But yeah, my friend made it out alive coz I thing our singing scared the sh*t out of them so he was able to get out of there. -

Yes please, my steam nick is Nathaniel, please add me and we can do some playin and stuff :) I actually am in need of a partner, or a group as Ive been playing alone for along tim enow, and it seems that, if you are ina group, you are a LOT safer than if alone. Just because of the fact that the more pairs of eyes you have - the more aware you are of everything, so even if you have literally no idea where the cocky sniper is, there is gonna probably be atleast one guy from your group who will know it. Thanks for the tips everyone, actually I think the best way to play this game is to imagine that you actually are in there, like in RL. That way you are most cautious and trying to play safe, because you simply are not willing to take the risk of death. But thats sometimes hard to do, when you are frustrated but want to play, mostly you will just end up running arround, not even caring anymore, just trying to get loot ASAP so you can get back to your character that died and almost got you a heart attack because of the rage :D -

Year 2020. The zombie apocalypse has happened 5 years ago. Not alot of people are alive anymore. But there are few survivors. Most of them are lying in a bush or an empty, cold house, reading a book. xD -
Well, to me, all the interaction I get in game, is pretty sh*tty and not existent. As I'm mostly friendly and stealthy, killing bandits if I see any, and trying to save the good guys. I also have my dark side, of course, here's an example - yesterday I went to the NE airfield, I was unarmed. Met a guy, he didn't shoot me, and we talked for a bit. Then I asked if he does have any weapons for me by any chance. He gave me a loaded revolver. I just said "Im sorry, mate and filled his right eye with a bullet. Took all of his stuff and left, and I'm proud of that kill just because it got myself geared up very quickly and only one guy had to die for that. But after that, I never KoS'd or anything, if I didn't have to. Ended up myself beign killed by a random sniper from 500+ meters when I just heard a shot and was immediately unconscious, and then dead. But this will get better, after the zombies are better. There will be a LOT of them, hopefully, so shooting will mean you'll attract a horde, and reveal your position. Thus, making yourself a sitting duck waiting for it's execution. That is going to be the ultimate counter to banditry and KoS. Stealth and the alarmed zombies. And maybe some unpenetrable vests 'n stuff.I don't believe that you instantly just fall down unconscious after a bullet to the leg or arm or something. Thats bullshit, that will need to be more realistic as well.

Can't see the right click choice menus - help please ?

The menu you get when you right click on any item, and basically every item has an Inspect option + some others regarding what item it is. Though when I right click on some items I cannot see the options, the little menu is just all black and I can just guess which option is what - which is kinda annoying. Please halp? -

Thanks for moving the topic where it belongs, and thanks for answers as well. It seems like I cannot change the language - im playin on czech, but when I try to change it- the game tells me it needs to restart in order to apply that change. So I restart it, but it goes back to czech and nothing happens at all. Wat do? :( EDIT: I forgot that my Dayz.cfg was set to read-only, so that's why it didn't change. Changed the language manually and now everything is working properly. Solved, thanks alot :) -

Title says it. Please, I beg you for the mercy of all the zombie gods. Make a door opening/closing animation, as if your character is actually opening/closing them, not just using "the force" and open them by looking...

It balances the map pretty much good. You have the same distance to run to either balota, NWA or east airfield. Spreads the players across the map alot better. There's your answer.

While you still lose like 10 seconds... But that is completely useless in a pvp situation. Imagine you are on the airfield (choose whatever one) and your friend is keeping an eye on you from the closest molehill with a sniper rifle. You see a person, tell him and he asks you "where is he?" Now if there are no buildings nearby, what you tell him? "He's south-west of my position, 300meters". However, with the current compass, that's completely impossible... -

uhm... Altough the idea seems pretty awesome, and it wouldn't harm anyone if implemented, but.. would anyone actually use it? I woudln't. I would just rob people, and if they did as I told them I would even give them stuff in refund and let them go. But never, never, never ever would I trust someone in DayZ enough to put my weapon off. -
IDK about you but i'm never quite bored in DayZ lol. There's always a situation. I follow a group, someone follows me, then I try to not kill the guy, end up killing him coz he didn't drop his gun, and so on... You are playing it wrong if you are bored :P But yes of course there's still only a few people (40), and the map is too big for that.

you can imagine, but nothing like that is ever gonna be possible in DayZ :/ to the topic - an actual horde should have at least 100 zombies. at the very least. -
Before you hate me, let me explain. I absolutely love the game, and the mod as well. Its the best survival mmo out there, although " massively multiplayer online" are kinda strong words for 50 players on one server, but whatever. DayZ is FAR from what its meant to be. It has NOTHING to do with a zombie apocalypse, not even the zombies. (and im not talking about the fact that there is absolutely NO sign of zombie apocalypse in chernarus. Some blood and a few destroyed buildings doesnt mean by far that there has been a zombie apocalypse.) If a zombie game is done good, the zombies should be feared and respected. They should be terrible, flesh ripping, cruel and gross creatures that just give you goosebumps everytime you see them. In DayZ, zombies are.... dolls. They are nothing more than retarded weird bugged dolls. If you would want to make them as they should be - you would need to completely change the engine, at minimum. Arma is, always was and will be an army simulator, a SHOOTING simulator, and even though melee works to some degree, its awful, not smooth by far and visually it doesnt even look like melee. When you are fighting a zombie, you should be able to chop its damn head off, or see it ripping your flesh, charging and jumping at you while pushing you to the ground so you have to actually take him off you before you stand up and finish him (no, not in the bugged retarded way they do now in standalone). Now Im not whining about anything. The game is really awesome and I love it. But imagine there would be no zombies, SA or the mod, doesnt matter. Would that do something beside removing a rather annoying aspect of the game? No, I dont think so. Zombies mean nothing. They do not jump at you out of the doors when you open them. They do not try to break the doors and they have no intelligence AT ALL. They just stay there, and run after you when they "detect" you. Thats it. These are the big, scary, cruel zombies of dayz. Retarded dolls running through walls that cant even punch you right. Wait, zombies and PUNCHING you? They should be eating your face off while another 50 would be ripping off every piece of flesh on your body. what im trying to say is, DayZ is an awesome game because of its survival aspect. Zombies are, always were and always probably will be a huge fail. one last piece: I think that if zombies actually are meant to represent any danger, we would really need a LOT of them, like 500 in a big city, 100 in small, and they would have to be roaming arround the world in HUGE groups (500+). That way, the next scenario would ACTUALLY be possible: (which I think is one of the goals of DayZ as it is a zombie apoc. simulator) -you are walking in the woods, you see a guy and are about to kill him as 90percent of players would do -suddenly you see a massive horde of zombies surrounding you and your target -now you would actually think "oh fuck the zombies are coming i need his help" because if not, they would just outnumber you, instead of "oh fuck the annoying zombies, gotta kill the player before they just annoyingly give away my position" I think that would also have a big impact on the KOS mentality. I also think that is not gonna be possible with this engine. EVER. Now let the flamers bury me.

Hello again, first of all thank you for all the responses, even though most of you are mindlessly insulting me and just saying "its an alpha its an alpha" Well guess what. As someone before already stated, it's been alpha for damn quite a long time, I'm talking about the mod now. They create an alpha, and then they create another alpha, when the first one wasn't even close to finished mod. But okay. Seems like most of you either didn't read the full post, or else you'd understand that I'm not saying DayZ is BAD in ANY sense at all. DayZ is the most addictive and fun game/mod/whatever I've ever played. I'm just saying that, while it really excels in almost every other part of the game, it fails with the zombies. Zombies in DayZ are not zombies, and they will never be. Do not argue with me on that point. They are trying to be, but fail at it greatly. Hence the name "Dayz is FailZ" , I never meant that as the whole game is a fail, I'm talking about the fact that the whole game is pretty much about zombies, and they are the biggest minus also. I got my answer there however. So yeah, exactly. I do agree that zombies represent some danger and thrill in the game and/or mod. It just doesn't feel like a game of 21th century at all. (regarding the zombies) Oh and, to all the "hello kid" and "im 12 and wanna make a thread" , well... who's the dumb kiddo now, the one that insults the other, or the one that's actually trying to help this game's development by sharing his thoughts ? I think you know the answer. Also one more thing, I know very well that this is alpha, as well as I know that there are going to be more zombies and maybe roaming hordes (which I strongly don't believe will happen before 2015 but that's just my opinion). As I said, they will simply just never feel right. They will never be scary and terrifying. Once again, as I said many times, DayZ is an awesome game. I just said my opinion on the zombies, that's it. But from what I've read in the other threads and this one as well, this forum isn't capable of a discussion, as there are always the "flamers" . Anyway, just close this thread if possible please. I've made a huge mistake trying to actually discuss anything on the forums. -
I dont get the best fps in dayz, I have about 25 out of the big towns (cherno etc), in them I have like 15 which already is shitty but whatever, still playable. But as soon as I get to Dubky, you know the place north of cherno with all the tall enterable buildings, I have - no im not shitting you - i really have like 5 FPS. I want to know, is this normal? Happened to me in the mod as well if there were any custom buildings but it never dropped all the way to 5 fps. And that area is pretty cool, but really unplayable for me. What is interesting though, if Im just there looking north (at the woods - so there are no buildings in my sight, just behind me where I cannot see them) the fps is just as high as I were in the woods. As soon as I turn back, it drops. Any suggestions?

thanks a lot, been looking for a similar "guide" but found nothing. Unfortunately I dont have much options for upgrade right now, but will do it inevitably in the next couple of months, until then I was just looking for a temporary solution. Will keep you posted how much this helped.
