Is there anything being planned that incentivizes not shooting on sight?
libertine replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
You said you like playing DayZ because its the only game where you can really ruin peoples day. Did you know people commit suicide for having their day ruined? Did you know there are 200,000 individual attempt in the US alone with 38,000 being successful. EACH YEAR? It a big world out there isn't it young feller... *pats Wheunis on head* -

On the armband? I prefer a medical cross, because that fits in with my realistic idea that makes sense out of the PVP. That gives negative humanity to people that murder others constantly. They become people promised sanctuary by the remaining military/gov structure if they in turn "cleanse" the lands of the remaining civilian population, which they firmly believe in the only chance of stopping the virus and saving humanity. The military has given the "bandits" armbands to identify themselves to each other so they don't kill one another and the medical cross is to lure survivors in and put them at ease making them easier to kill. This also takes the association with "evil" away from being a bandit since you are someone who believes they are saving humanity. Makes fucking sense, instead of the dumbass pantsless Vietnam we have now. -
Your doing what you are allowed to do. Like a little dipshit fuck who blocks their teamates airplanes from taking off in BF3 so they get auto-killed when you run them over despite trying to go around.
-
That is the logic applied from your, YOUR, dumbfuck idea of what the DayZ world is all about, where everyone has gone completely insane and is out to kill each other as quickly as possible. Other people want a bitchin zombie apocalypse with REALISTIC PVP.

The problem with the knee capping as i see it is that if you are a solo-only player who is not familiar with the forum's "medic" section, and your far away from anything. Your completely fucked. If you play with friends or a clan they will just come and get you. You KOSers that rail against people that don't KOS are not really that unintelligent are you? Your essentially playing a high stakes game of Monopoly where everyone is playing monopoly but some people are anonymously pressing a button to reset your game and take away all your money, while the other players never will (without bandit identification) because it doesn't fit with they way they approach playing games. Your really expecting these people to enjoy that experience as much as you? REALLY??? Please think before you post.

Rocket CAN do something about it. I suspect hackers DO do something about it to as i suspect half their justification for doing what they do is having their day ruined just like you mentioned. Video games have come a long way since Pacman. They can be virtual reality experiences for those who choose to put themselves in the game that way. D&D players prove everyday you don't even need a screen to immerse yourself in another reality. But it is just a game right? So why don't you post your physical address and photo I.D.? Do you really find it that hard to believe that peoples days are ruined after spending the amount of time people spend developing them? It is sad, but this is a sad world and people like Wheunis are contributing. You must still be living in the comfort of childhood i guess? This would all be different if the game gave armbands out for murdering other players who aren't yet bandits. Then players being KOSed and having their day ruined can at least know they will be able to get back at another bandit PVP soon. -

You want to hurt people in real life? Maybe you should be banned from the game and forums for admitting that. This is why we need bandit armbands or something. Little special people like you running around without a care in the world because your life experiences are so fucking tiny you have no way to empathize with others. This covers pretty much all young people and a lot of young people i've noticed play this game. PVP isn't going anywhere and this being an early alpha release will make for tons of poeple already somewhat bored with the main content of the game when it is commercially released. It will probably get worse over time. But the PVP isn't the problem imo, its the lack of any meaning given to it, making it totally unrealistic or not believable. -
Cause there isn't enough mistrust already!

Hotfix changelog: Stable Branch: 0.35.115188
libertine replied to mattlightfoot's topic in News & Announcements
The version number is just a string of text, they could have forgotten to change it. My crashes stopped at some point by themselves, so i assumed they updated it. -
Nice music. 3rd person server! Man, try a first, you'll get used to not seeing your character, it's totally worth it. If you don't see them, they don't see you. I bet your girlfriend would miss the character tho.

Game is going to devolve into PVP without bandit identification. The PVP isn't going anywhere though either way, but it could EVOLVE into meaningful PVP that made realistic sense with factioned PVP. Survivors against military with a realistic, science backed, interesting background story. Will never happen though. I bet this makes sense in another dimension.

Why the hell do people all over this forum keep saying their playstyle is how you play the game correctly? -

For who? Me, or you? I grew up around drug dealers. I also grew up in schools during the height of the gang war between the bloods and the crips, I went to school with them. I didn't fear them unless i pissed them off. I didn't piss them off. Same goes in an apocolypse, or another country, don't piss people off and you'll generally be fine with other people. If thats not common sense you've probably lived a sheltered life. Being fearful is what puts people on edge. Being so cautious the other guys know your prepared to take their lives as easily as killing a rabbit for food pisses people off. Violence begets violence, fear begets fear. Some, probably many people will shoot themselves in the head if starving before slaughtering another person for their beans/backpack/gun/fun. -
They are, but there are also people working on hacks using all their free time. I've just been to their forums and i can't fcking believe what i just saw and i can't believe the FBI or the United Nations doesn't shut them down. They need to see jail time, pay fines, lose jobs and get a criminal record. In the mean time if anyone has the address of a hack creator in the Washington State area, provide proof and give me the address and he will hack no more (No violence involved...) I just watched a teleporting hacker looting balota kill one guy hidden in the med tent at the runway, then kill two friends that were together who looked like they had just run all the way there from the east coast.... I was sickened by it. The ignorance, the selfishness. This piece of shit needs to be in a ditch. Then he found me somehow up in one of the apartments. Gave him a piece of my mind before he killed me at least.

I understand the firing because if he has a friend also coming out, etc, etc. Don't understand the axe part. He was unarmed and you just gunned his ass down, robbed him of the rest of his life, permanently severed him of his ties with whatever family he had, etc, wasn't that enough for you? Did you know some people hardly ever kill others in this game? -
If you were playing it as just a normal game, ok, if you were playing it as an immersive experience...wtf...

I like homeless/disabled people, got a problem with me? The fuck is your problem. Btw, homeless people are why i know the violence in this game wouldn't pan out in real life. The sheer number of times i've heard of a homeless person turning in $10,000, $20,000, $100,000, $500,000+ someone lost in a brief case is proof positive a zombie apocalypse |= pantsless Vietnam that is DayZ. -

I think for the long term, having different "game modes" would be great and frankly needed to keep the game fresh for probably a lot of long time players. It would make sense realistically, or could depending on the world Dean finalizes, that settlements would prop up full of fathers, mothers, elderly, children, disabled people, etc trying to grow crops, trade, provide security, support each other, etc. This could allow for different types of gameplay, and all perfectly realistic. It could be a trading area. They could give small missions. There could be a Wanted: board for vigilantes, etc, etc. If you just left them without a safe zone, teenagers would just shoot them/blow them up, run them over, for fun since of course it is just a computer game, ruining the experience for the players playing immersed in the game.. You guys need to face the fact that the 99.99% of drop-of-the-hat violence that takes place every second in DayZ is not realistic. Retaining ALL the PVP, while adding in THE ADDITION of realistic peaceful encounters sounds just fine to me as long as its done well. -
They should really spawn people all over the map and put in about 50% more map fragments IMO.

100man servers... my biggest fear has been realised.

Just spawn people all over the map for F sake... -
Nice, Frankie makes great videos. Should be interesting to say the least, assuming hes in the next. Well done on the last one, loved the closeups of the goofy poster characters, which to me sorta makes fun of the assholes who enjoy causing people grief AND take the game seriously...

Wonder how many of those guys were sight seeing survivors... Now play realistically and try that on a hardcore server in first person. -
A cheeky trick to SUPERZOOM your weapon sight/scope (video)
libertine replied to acapona's topic in New Player Discussion
I use this when i pick up a long range scope, while using a short range M4, just as a means to find people since there are no binoculars and i could use the scope to look through in real life. Plus, i don't KOS, or snipe, so consider yourself lucky if i spot you instead of a KOSer. Using the super low FOV to KOS people though is fucking low as shit.
