How much of money goes to the Arma devs, if any? By re-using the same engine and same assets that they built from the ground up and are completely familiar with. On more than one occasion i've have heard that is it sometimes very difficult to work with other peoples code

Realism and Weapons [Balanced or Realistic?]
libertine replied to ProGamerGov's topic in General Discussion
I was extremely disappointment how easy it was to walk around and maneuver with the Mosin while looking through the scope. -
Can't wait for this either. The guy who said even 4k won't be enough needs to try some more displays or something. I game on a 1080p 2012 46" Samsung 3DTV using checkerboard 3D less than a meter away from me providing a huge field of view which i love, but sacrifice for fineness of picture. While 1080p checkerboard is still a huge step up from scaled 720p, which i used before (and 2650x1600 before that), I could do with a resolution bump so i hope the commercial version either has a few different versions or is above 1080p. 4K would be sweet and genuinely amazing. I don't think people have made the connection between what high fidelity graphical realism and 3D with a wide field of view can do for immersion and the sense of "being there". This game is frikin beautiful in 3D. Too bad 3D movie conversions have soured peoples idea of what 3D can provide.

OFP was just as bad if not worse from my experience :) I remember playing the "destroy the convoy" mission over and over to test framerate. That was fun Btw: Here maybe something important i noticed which maybe the dev already have figured out. Object detail makes a huge difference in framerate. However i noticed on an overcast day while staring at Zelenogorsk all of a sudden i could bump object detail to "very high" along with many other settings like AA and the framerate was very smooth. I switched severs to test my theory out and sure enough, when the sun was out the framerate turned to unplayable. My guess was the lighting effects having to do with it because my shadow setting was "low" and turning my shadows off usually has little impact on performance, however i have never fully restarted the game to see if shadow rendering needs a restart to fully changes its status. Perhaps the lighting, or the shadows if im wrong, could be further optimized with some other or new DX libraries.

Did they say they were going to optimize SAs engine more? I notice i get very good FPS on overcast days when the sun isn't out, I can crank up object detail to very high while staring at Zelenogorsk(sp?) and pan around smoothly. btw.I notice antialising doesn't have a huge effect on framerate. Cranking it up makes a huge difference with distant details and things like grass.

You are not a developer TLW. If you were you'd know how long software dev takes. Do the world a favor and don't state your opinions and guesses as if they were facts. Thats one of the big differences between the mature and immature. The smartest people tend to say i don't know a lot. If that doesn't make sense to you im guessing your a young wipper snapper.

This is why we need bandit skins, because i'd like to give you some of your own medicine.

Why so interested?

That is one of the many retarded phrases used in society today. There ARE reasons, you just haven't flushed them out yet in your brain or don't want to admit them or bother typing them etc. I get the adrenaline rush bit, but I don't know why you say you get satisfaction out of blowing people away, even in a game. I guess you were not treated well in life thus far? Besides the odd asshole, the worst people have done to me is giving me a disappointing amount of disinterest, but i know that people do the best the can with what they have physically and mentally. Or you just realize fully at all times its just a game. There is that. But then are you as immersed as you can be? Let your ego know that if i had been KOS'ing there would have been a wake of dead bandits behind me. Thats just one person, roleplaying a survivor.

I Know It's in Poor Taste... ("bandit" kill)
libertine replied to applejaxc's topic in General Discussion
Altough this sounds like a great idea to me too, Dayz is capable of serving a lot of different mind sets, including those who just wish to roam the landscape, immersed in that experience, exploring, etc. Pretending to be there. Especially if new to the Chernerus. -
How are you going to fix using graphic card setting based gamma changes or monitor setting based gamma adjustment? Your not. You sleep at night anyway... Just make moonlit nights with reduced visibility (and not black and white please). Then full-dark-night PvE servers. Who the HELL is going to turn on their flashlights with all this KOS? Rummage through houses for hours till im literally dizzy then turn on my flashlight for some bored PVP player to put see me way across town? Hell no.
-
Why do we already have so many 24/7 daylight servers?
libertine replied to Gingerizhere's topic in General Discussion
1. Because you sleep at night for fucks sake. 2. Because gamma in-game and gamma settings on computer monitors. 3. Because KOS and the fact that people solo and have no backup or blood giver next to me at all times, ill never turn on my flashlight. Too risky. So its gamma or pitch black... aka hop to another server. It would be better to just have a moonlit night where visibility was reduced quite a bit, but you could still see most everything, especially movement as per usual. -
This is a really really bad ducking game
libertine replied to mark3236 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Last thing i need is 20 8 year olds covering 4 square miles of ground with super accurate "game guns" designed to take out tons of heavily armed computer ai in a single session, putting their cursor on my character and clicking their mouse button after having just spent 2 hours searching houses for basic gear. From a sniper or series of snipers i couldn't even hope to see unless i wanted to pretend i was in a war zone checked every bush and hedge? NO THANKS! They were way too accurate before, its better now. Take a well aimed shot. No super-zoom Dmrs, no crazy FLIR vision scopes please, not half the server having AS50s thanks... There are tons of other ways to implement fun, rewarding combat. It one thing to have to be careful, but Its just too unfair to be able to blink someone out of existence from 2 square miles around you so easily in a game where a fair amount of the people are roleplaying unaware people gathering food and trying to be friendly. Its unfair and UN-FUN to be so disadvantaged, to be target practice for PVPers not roleplaying. One of the other negative things about having very accurate long range weapons is that it makes going up on high places with the nice views too hard and too dangerous. Like in Cherno most of the time. There is a lot we're missing out on because of that. What they should do though is increase the player view distance, as it is, it makes the world way to big for the amount of players. then we can track each other better, you to kill, me to see if they are bandits and THEN kill... Btw, to ruin your bandit egos: I've only just barely killed people who are in the process of firing at me or axing me and barely survived. If i started killing who ever i saw, I would leave a huge WAKE of avatar bodies behind me, but since i kill no one that i can't determine is absolutely a bandit/murderer, thats the only reason you aint on the beach with nothing but a can of beans. -
Voted no, i need a change...

They implemented a solution in the mod, its coming to SA, just not yet, but soon

Standalond Hackers...[Teleported to ocean]

Actually i think its immature of you to not have realized that there is nothing wrong with swear words by now. Fuck off -
Hilarious man

Not having a map is part of the damn fun man :) Play like your there, while its all still fresh and new.
-
I think they are re-making all the guns and so they will take awhile to get in game. That my guess. Also, there are a lot of reasons they might actually do stuff like this on purpose, to get mass feedback or to study something.
-
I keep hearing strange noises, which seems like only when another player is near, like bullets maybe and little snaps and gun movement sounds maybe. Also little bits of zombie groans/yells that are cut-off. I don't think its intentional. I hope not anyway because as a solo player, i need all the stealth i can get and an alarm system for bandit groups isn't what i'd call fair, especially when if im following a player, its just to determine their behavior -good or bad, how else am i going to get gun play if im role-playing a decent dude.
-
I just went by some armed players that were around me for awhile, not known by them btw and i didn't hear any metallic sounds, so thats good. Ambient sounds are an excellent idea and the way they are implemented is nice. Usually in games, those types of sounds are generic and easily recognizable and dismissed. Here they are actual noises used by gun related stuff, making me wonder whats up. Thats great. I also hear little branch breaking noises every now and again. Eventually I hope they add in more noises, with different volumes and location differences. Ideally i it would be nice if there was a steady stream of new slightly different ambient and even gun noises to keep the player guessing.

Why are they stupid and so what if they were ignorant of your boredom. Maybe they just want to play a certain way. Maybe THEY wouldn't have been up on a hill carelessly ending the streaks and effort of others like your dumbass did so they naturally didn't expect you to be spazzing out up on the hill. Fuck sniper rifles. Last thing we need is multiple snipers covering four square miles of ground around them from various angles (locking down desirable areas and turning them into a weird war zone) only to see you and put their retarded curor on you the moment you take a breather to scan around and click their mouse button, blinking you out of existence for a tiny bit of fun for them -all from a distance the victim couldn't hope to detect the sniper with. Snipers also completely obliterate the ability for people to go up of roofs other cool vantage points with the nice views, it certainly did in Cherno. AS50s and super zooming DMRs and FLIR scopes, fucking ridiculous!!! Then there is the fact that sniper rifles in the mod were designed for a single player to take out an entire military base of Ai. They are not realistic in operation either. I don't pick up sniper rifles, but i have. When i use them they are so easy to kill with it is next to fucking pointless. Fuck sniper rifles.

Color degradation from blood loss has to go (loss of visual fidelity)
libertine replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
I would like it to go too for a few reasons ill list below, but only if another equally invasive thing can replace it, like passing out and/or occasional severe blurriness -something you want/need fixed and want/need fixed NOW. Both sides in this thread are making good points in my opinion though. However, as a solo player, I can't help but think about the fact that people playing with friends have such a huge advantage. They immediately have someone who can heal them at all times, zombie fights are 2+ vs. 1, they have another pair of eyes scanning the area, they have two angles in a fire fight, they have double the resource gathering capability, once they have transportation they will soon both be heavily armed if they we're already. I don't mind the idea of being extra careful as a solo player, but im noticing so far I its going to be tougher and maybe not much fun because of the forewarning "bullets and things jinggliing" sounds i hear when im around other players. I don't want two or more armed player spreading out to track me down the moment i enter their vicinity. Also, the fact that footstep sounds are so frickin loud while creeping along. When i was younger i noticed i could sprint almost silently when i was a kid. Lastly, too many things seem to be out of my control, like falling off or through geometry i shouldn't and fighting zombies. I can take them most of the time now without getting hurt, but internet lag really makes whats happening very hard to understand and sometimes im not anywhere near the zombie or the zombie isn't even facing me and i get hit and the screen sometimes grays very quickly. It would be different if it were in my control and i could learn from my mistakes. Zombies also seem to chase you based on a simple distance check regardless of any sight check. I could run them off every time avoiding any risk, but i feel like that would be tantamount to a genuine waste of time (if done everytime). I say that as someone who would like the game to be more difficult in certain ways. Oh, one more thing, i notice the screen goes gray when running too long. Should there be a penalty for it? I don't know. But its a video game, and its Chernerus (f'ing huge) and there are ony 40 players on it. I wouldn't penalize people for wanting something to happen. The game is beautiful, but not THAT beautiful. Arguably the time spent running is punishment enough? -
Why thunderdomers may be psychopaths and why they may need your help
libertine posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ran across a couple articles today and thought i'd post one. To take what might be a several months of effort by another DayZ player and blink it out of existence is a horrible (or ignorant, aka stupid) act, to do it to a 60 population server i would have said was unbelievable before i saw it happen. I personally had been killed around 25 times this way and i didn't feel like I even played that much. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-15386740 You will have to work with these people in later life and they may be your boss, since selfish corporations like someone who is willing to crack a whip, not to mention many companies are run by this type of person. -
