Why are we making it harder to be friendly??

You can always create an option to turn off side chat if you don't want it. I like it sometimes, sometimes not. You sure you just don't like being a target as a bandit, like we survivors are now? We survivors want some gun play too and its way too damn difficult to find "legitimate" reasons for doing some vigilante work. You can't look at a town and know if a player is there or even nearby from spawned zombies. If there is a player there, expect to spend up to 20 minutes staring at a mid-sized town before you see the player because of interiors. Player draw distance has been reduced so players disappear well within ranges you could see them before. This and other reasons make PVP'ing bandits more bored than they used to be, KOSing more often and making it even harder for us survivors to find, let alone identify bandits/murderers. Lazy quote: "I personally thought a little subtle blood on the hands was a good choice, or clothes if they have gloves on Only viewable from fairly close, say 100 meters, or with binoculars. If you were a survivor just defending yourself from another survivor and got blood on your hands/clothes, then you could work it off by killing bandits. I think i'd like to see a sort of story form with sides taken, where the military has quarantined all affected areas, such as Chernerus, and are killing everyone as a safety measure. Then made a deal with certain civilians to become mercenaries and kill everyone they encountered in exchange for guaranteeing proper living quarters, food, etc within a compound to be setup at a later date inside the affected areas. So you'd have certain military uniforms on some people at the outset and you'd have mercenaries in regular clothes vs. a civilian population of survivors all wearing red band around there arm or something. I wouldn't even mind one bit if the military guys got to start with a rifle, i say that as a never-shoot-first survivor."

Bandit skin please, or something subtler preferably!

    What's your favorite town/city?

I frikin loved Cherno for some reason, its cool and almost creepy sometimes, even during the day. Used to piss me off so much that snipers locked it down with 10 AS50s in the mod so could rarely explore it like I would if i were a real survivor doing some sight seeing. Zelenogorsk is 2nd for me i think. Hate the way Elektro is laid out for some reason.

    Reduce triangle counts in cities

I went ahead and did some testing and found some weird results i posted here. Turns out i get a 1 fps increase from enabling shadows after several tests.

    Oculus Rift Support?

Concerning vsync with the Rift: You DO NOT need to have it enabled. And thank the gods because that would make most games unusable.
  6. +! SADLY NO! I personally thought a little subtle blood on the hands was a good choice, or clothes if they have gloves on Only viewable from fairly close, say 100 meters, or with binoculars. Zombies with Character, a Rare Disturbance

*sigh of relief* Yeah, very good ideas. I hope Rocket and the team have a little list of ideas like this they keep adding to as it comes to them. I tend to forget really good ideas sometimes and it comes back to haunt me occasionally. I'd personally like to see some "30 Days Later" super fast zombie that really make you prefer to use your rifle instead of pulling out the quiet axe.
  8. I was doing some testing because i thought it might be worth sacrificing the tiny performance hit the game seemed to have and force shadows on in the game to at least to "very low" because of the fact that it is SO much easier to see people when there are no shadows making the player and the background dark. But it seems that not only isn't there a performance hit, i get a better framerate... Heres my test results. I restarted the game for every test. The first column involved a few different servers, the rest were the same server. All were done staring at Zelenogorsk with same daytime. (sp?) Very High 25 | 26 High 25 | 27 Normal 25 | 26 | 26 Low 25 | 23 Very Low 25 | 24 | 26 Disabled 24 | 24 | 24 Can some other people verify this? I ran with 3D Vision off, but loaded up an ready to go I assume it could possibly have some sort of impact even while not rendering dual views. It is damn F'ing amazing in this game btw, off the charts beautiful and as per usual only about 30% to 40% performance hit. btw: If this is true, someone tell Frankie to enable his shadows :) Probably worth noting in one of his upcoming videos as i see a few people discussing the settings he chose. ODD THING #2: Opening the menu (esc key) increases the framerate by 1 or 2... ODD THING #3: shit can't remember

Shadows on increases framerate?!? Please read!

Its a good link, but i doubt anyone having framerate issues would expect for the performance to actually go up with shadows enabled. btw, can anyone confirm this works on their system so i can be safer stating that this actually works in a signature link text?

    day/night cycle

Yes, when i was doing my framerate tests for shadow performance (higher fps with it on btw...) I kept trying to enter a low population day server, i couldn't find a single one, they were all night. I don't want to stop anyone from playing at night if they want, i just don't want it forced on me. I wouldn't play the game.

    day/night cycle

Why play in the dark at all. What if someone works during the day and can only play at night time. He must use night servers with a good ping? Fuck i hope not. FUCK NIGHT TIME. 1.You sleep at night. 2. Who the F is going to turn on their flashlights? 3. Why bother with gamma making the game black an white when you could just simulate moonlit nights, retaining the color and probably looking f'ing beautiful probably. 4. Not everyone might use gamma, not wanting to cheat or use the ugly shit in the first place. Why spend that much time in black and white
  13. libertine

Shadows on increases framerate?!? Please read!

From my testing, whatever is going on in the world, or ping, or something, very well seems to have an impact on framerate regardless of whether you see it or not.

You know you've played too much DayZ when...

    You sure its not 1-800-187-Dayz?
  16. Couple things are effecting this. It also i think effects KOS, since those players are even more bored now, wanting more action -likewise for survivors wanting action which was already hard to attain limiting yourself to only killing when you KNOW for sure someone shot first and not from defending themselves. 1.The player draw distance has been reduced way down. While zoomed (which if i remember correctly simulates the fineness of detail the human eye can normally see) I can clearly see peoples gun while their bodies are no longer being drawn. Its too much. 2. Zombies don't indicate the presence of players in and town or nearby it anymore. You can no longer quickly glance at a town and know someone is there in a spit second. 3. People are spending tons of time in interiors now vs. running along side buildings. to get it the few interiors they could before. Zombies would obviously have already indicated their presence. I've spent almost 20 minutes looking for a guy I saw enter a town from an elevated position on a tower and didn't see even a glimpse of him the entire time. He didn't log out, i saw him again after climbing down and going though the entire town myself. For these reasons and other I think were going to need a few changes.

I don't think you understood what you wrote. You said you "must" kill people to survive. In the game one does not need to kill to survive.

    M4A1s are Common and Overpowered

Lag and coding can issues aside, you could also think about it as though you were shot in a way that took you "out of the fight".

    I am a cold-blooded murderer

Technically you can survive by gathering stuff. So your very first sentence is bull and everything else is based on bull. Congrats on that. Not that i am against KOS, i wouldn't play the game if combat wasn't in it.
  20. No problem with being KOS. Do have a problem with it being too difficult to find opportunities to KOS back role playing a peaceful survivor.
  21. Um, can we ban Applejax please? Or remove his posts please. Improving the sound is a great idea, obviously. Not all of the sounds themselves seem ideal, but I too like the way they make the guns "feel" powerful, something many games don't do. Proper reverberation would be fantastic as well as more ambient sounds. A lot of things need tuning. I can barely hear anyone near the sea for example.

    I am a cold-blooded murderer

WHAT? You take peoples loot when you kill them right? Your playing easy mode dude. I played a survivor in the mod up until a couple weeks ago when i went back to DayZ mod and some dick told me there were no bandit skins. There were, but he lied to be a dick i guess. But since gathering loot as getting old, I decided to be a little bit of a bandit for once and holy fucking shit did it make the game easier. I started using sniper rifles too, something i never did before because it felt so cheap to click my mouse button the moment someone stopped to look around. Could not believe how easy it was to snipe people. I really can't believe you just said that. Try only killing when you KNOW for sure that another player in a bandit/KOSer, try tracking them to find out and if they kill someone, but you didn't see who shoot first or if he was just shooting first because the guy started aiming at him, then don't shoot, he was just defending himself. And when you spend hours gathering all your loot yourself, spending gobs of time looking out widows for players as pass them, and someone pops around a corner just when you had no weapon and your game starts over I'd like to hear how you feel about doing that all over again without being able to reciprocate when you'd already like some action yourself...

    Any fellow heroes?

Why wouldn't someone in a zombie apocalypse not wish to wear a gas mask? Why does a gas mask signify a bandit? It doesn't. Neither do masks. I've met just as many friendly mask and gas mask wearers as i've had seen shoot or kill me if not more. I've been killed way more times by some douche in a civilian clothes as military types. That goes for up north too. Look at the pic in Chrono's pic. You going to blow them away for protecting their lungs? If its harder to find people for survivors like myself because you can't just quickly scan a town for spawned zombies, then the bandits are going to be even more bored, desiring more gun play. That has definitely been my experience. I've been KOS i feel like way more than the mod even though SA is new and shiny, offering more chances for immersion during the survival experience. btw, i don't want a bandit skin either, just something to help further evaluate the inclination of the guy looking at. Subtly loodied hands would be a great idea in my opinion.
  24. libertine

    Any fellow heroes?

I am, but I really need some bandit skins or something to stay a "hero". I was always a hero in the mod, but in SA its gotten too damn hard to find other players (lack of zombies/player view distance reduction/interiors) and/or try and track them and figure out if they're bandits or not so i don't get any gun play myself. The movement system is so unbelievably clunky and unpredictable that i don't feel as safe moving in close either. The footstep sound effects are unpredictable too. Then there is the fact that most people are using the same weapon (its aphla, i know) so if i spend tons of time tracking someone or watching a town and miss a little of the battle, I most often can't tell who fired first or even instigated it because of the movement system. Being a walking target is getting old and i might just PVP. Lots of peeps going to be tanning at the shore if i start PVP'ing but i only want to send the actual PVP'er back there. I don't want to send survivors back there who are just like me, especially groups of people who now have to work to get back together. We need a bandit skin or preferably something less easy to identify forcing you to get in closer like bloodied hands/clothes.
