Of the millions of things you could want that would add realism and immersion and depth to the game...

I thought there were more crashed Humvees and checkpoints on the map. Maybe they are building new models with more variation? I can't wait for new maps in general as Chernerus is becoming too familiar. I hope they make a ruined New York map like in the movie Legend or the city parts of Walking Dead.

Believe it or not, helis are pretty easy to fly. Same with jets. Military pilots have said before that flying is harder in games because of the imprecision of the controls vs. the real thing. Don't get me wrong, it would take us all a day just to find the ignition switch....

will they add heli crashes in the standalone?
libertine replied to GulpinGulpin's topic in General Discussion
Nope, they won't.... :D Fuck if i know. -
"with hacks, everything is possible" Thats right, when they "hacked" the game together when they made it, they made this cool game possible...

I'd have voted mostly military grade weps if it you have a little disclaimer about not increasing sniper rifles though. Their effect on gameplay and exploration sucks too much.

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad
libertine replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
I think several new factors are at play. Zombies not spawning with player pretense is making it harder to find people, reducing the amount of action people are seeing, pvpers getting boarder faster, etc. Also i think building interiors are making it harder to find people as well. I think KOS is increasing as well because the movement system is so damn clunky and people are unsure that they can defend themselves if they have to so they strike ASAP. Lag and framerate being other factors for that too imo. An increase in server population will help. So would a bandit armband, so you can get back at them without taking forever to identify an actual murder that wasn't self defense. Killing an avatar in a game does not expose THE TRUTH about human nature smart guy. It exposes "some" truths relating to mainly young people and boredom. -
I wouldn't mind 3rd being taken out at all, I think it would be great, but i'd want a few things to happen. 1. I want to be able to steady my gaze a little more while standing still in all positions because of the fact that motion is the best way to find a player against a steady, still background. Easily done in real life. The primary way i spot players in paintball for example. Its hard enough to find players as it is. Don't get me wrong, I do want some movement. I think it looks bad when the scene goes perfectly still. Just not the heavy movement we have now, which is actually rotation it seems and the wrong way to handle it. 2. I'd like to be able to compare clothing still. Using the inventory menu avatar doesn't give an accurate idea of what stuff actually looks like at present. 3. I'd like to be able to tone down head bob a little bit more. In my experience when im running hard or when weighted down i have more of a stutter in vision with each step rather than than actually noticing any bob. Especially tilt. There is no tilt in real life. You can luckily make that go away with the current settings, but not the rest of the excessive portion of it. BF2142 was the first game that really did running head movement just perfect. Each foot plant was met with a perfectly timed screen bump that varied slightly and was so minimal i couldn't find a youtube video with enough resolution to show it back then. I think game devs come into the industry and take the words "head bob" a little too literally. On a related note, id love to be able to stick my head out of a window and look around too, but not be able to use weapons while doing so.

I like the idea of a task to complete, but IMO i'd prefer to bring the military into the story officially as a group of unknown quantity that mainly kill survivors, but may use them for experimentation and pay survivors to be mercenaries for them. I think that fits more logically into that universe. They could certainly use them as slaves. I was thinking slavery was a little far fetched, but hell, in the name of freedom and capitalism, the rich even today are still allowed to set up businesses that basically funnel all the wealth to themselves and the workers working closely with the management and pay the lowest end as little as they can. It getting damn near slave wages, especially in the states where the minimum wages has never increased with inflation. Slave owners did have to spend some money on clothes, shelter and food for their slaves.... fucked up. They are taking advantage of a surplus of labor, who will all take a super low paying job because there are some in line who will take the job for even less and if you ever think low paid people are paid what they are worth, imagine if there was a law passed that you could never replace a worker, and someone else in the company had to take on those tasks if people started leaving. That shows you the real value right there. I digress...

Make pistol holster mounted to belt and compatible with vests.
libertine replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
How about a leg strap option too. -
I really want 28 days later zombies, but not zombies that can detect you by hearing easily as i know i've sprinted silently when i was young. Their hearing in generally above realistic, which is a problem. Having good sight ok and manageable, realistic and promotes immersion in my opinion because it is believable, helping to suspend disbelief and supports our innate knowledge of sneaking, also increasing immersion imo.

Its been said that zooming in is a feature to simulate a human looking hard at something. At the moment the amount of zoom fluxuates with field of view. Not sure thats ideal if thats what its meant to simulate.

fast and highly observant zombies are bad for the game
libertine replied to Antiklimax's topic in General Discussion
I think the absolute KEY to providing a good zombie experience is making their visual system decent, but not overdoing their hearing system. I can sprint at full speed silently and sneak around easily very silently. It was one of my childhood fun things to do, sneak around in camo, with paintball guns in the neighborhood. No human or zombie should be able to hear me while im sneaking around unless im on creaky floor in an old house and they are 4ft away. The loud metal sound of metal flooring would be very quiet in real life too. Sneaking is a very innate thing for humans and can make a sort of sense in the game if done right, enhancing immersion because it enhances believability, helping to further suspend disbelief. Being able to detect a player easily from a good distance by sight is no problem as long as its not instantaneous. The game should give you a small grace period before the zombie reacts, you should be able to lean around a corner with a zombie staring straight at you, but not be seen if you get back in cover. Ideally, zombie behavior would be pretty complex, as it will get old the sooner it becomes a known quantity. I hope that they continuously modify and add to zombie behavior. In the previous example after looking around a corner, the zombie could go into investigate mode, walking slowly toward "something" that moved. The whole point of this is that it allows for zombies to be dangerous (i want 30 days later zombies btw), yet making sneaking around logical and more realistic. -
How's everyone's DayZ experience's so far, since she's been released?

Let me show you were alpha stage starts in games. Main(); There you go. Thats Mass Effect, or was it Battlefield, in alpha. -
I like it, but its also one more benefit "individuals" who are working with other people have over individuals playing alone. As it is an person in a group of 2 has a second angle in every firefight, pair of eyes, another gun...

Rocket in holiday doesn't mean nothing happens
libertine replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
I worked with a mod group of pro artists, programmers and animators who had been working on a full conversion mod for 6 years. All their free time was spent on it and they liked it, but it was a fuck ton of work. There were crunches and stressful points. These were serious people who programmed stuff like an in-game mission/map browser menu with description and previews and automatic downloader/installer so you could play a mission (sneak game) right then and there. Net coding and all. They released new versions frequently, but some people would still be saying stuff like, "Can't you incompetent people hurry the hell up?". Annoying. Ignorance isn't always bliss. -
*BARF* (sorry) Hero uniform sucks imo. Nor does it fit the situation realistically, which doesn't do much to help immersion. By that i mean if we are to assume zombies see normally, then in a zombie apocalypse we'd choose clothing that makes us hard to see, at least the more we were concerned about continuing living we, based on a lot of other factors like did we have people to take care of that we cared about, etc ,etc, etc, etc.

Let people play as they wish for the love of God!
libertine replied to mooky32's topic in General Discussion
"Let people play as they wish for the love of God!" SOUNDS GREAT, NOW GIVE ME A WAY TO IDENTIFY BANDITS SO I CAN PLAY AS I WISH AND KOS YOU AS A SURVIVOR. I've never had a problem with people KOS'ing new spawns. You lose next to nothing and perhaps position and it gives you a reason to be fearful and play carefully. My only problem is that the each server is like a different dimension and you've now way to track down those players and get some revenge or even just kill some bandits via a well planned, fun, KOS, because there is no bandit identification for survivor players. It would be nice IMO if the game had a semi-story tacked onto it that made bandits military personnel and mercenaries, taking out civilians in the hopes that it would prevent the disease/virus from further spreading. Then survivors on the other side. -
Why are we making it harder to be friendly??
libertine replied to Lidskjalf's topic in General Discussion
Beck and Jaygoon, are you bandits by chance? wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaa? What do you mean they don't work? Because never saw one server without a bandit skin of some some. NOR did i come across a single server without side chat beyond 8 months ago.... People obviously like it. Provide the option to turn it off if you don't like it, problem solved. I will be turning off myself sometimes when the kids start comparing penises. -
SUGGESTION: Bigfoot in remote woodlands.
libertine replied to cunninglinguist's topic in General Discussion
OP, you should play STALKER if you haven't(with mods). Amazing game. -
Only while your sitting in that bush it wont, and buddy, if there are bandit skins, you better stay in that bush. You'll be spending more time on the shoreline if you a bandit, unless you change your tactics to the ones we survivors use now which is to be more careful, go slower, look out windows when passing, etc, etc... When i see a survivor in the distance now i either leave him be or go follow him to see if he slips up, it takes a lot of time and i usually lose him because everybody is paranoid now that zombies don't indicate pretense, or get disconnected. Now im just going to shoot him ASAP or get shot in the process. Sound like a blast. So the end result of this will be that guys who look friendly kill you and you have to be careful around everyone....... Huh, sounds familiar. Hey, thats what we have now! Don't get me wrong, it would be much more dangerous for you bandits. It would be like it is for us survivors now...
-
In the Origins mod, there were a series of bandits and "hero" skins and the old survivor skins until you reach -6000 or +6000 "humanity", yet i was shot by survivors and heroes just as much as i was guys with bandit skins, if not more so. Its not about being safer, we don't want safer, we want to play with our guns more without being a bandit killing everyone regardless of their play styles. What I noticed in Origins, which i personally enjoyed more than the mod because i could get some gun play in easier, was that it slightly more often led to survivors spontaneously working together to help each other, like you'd think they would in a real life situation. Not safer...

"It's a fun place to shoot noobs." You said this, in another thread about Balota. So your a murderer/bandit and want to continue with easy mode, ok. Lazy quote ahead: We survivors want some gun play too and its way too damn difficult to find "legitimate" reasons for doing some vigilante work. You can't look at a town and know if a player is there or even nearby from spawned zombies. If there is a player there, expect to spend up to 20 minutes staring at a mid-sized town before you see the player because of interiors. Player draw distance has been reduced so players disappear well within ranges you could see them before. This and other reasons make PVP'ing bandits more bored than they used to be, KOSing more often and making it even harder for us survivors to find, let alone identify bandits/murderers. Lazy quote: "I personally thought a little subtle blood on the hands was a good choice, or clothes if they have gloves on Only viewable from fairly close, say 100 meters, or with binoculars. If you were a survivor just defending yourself from another survivor and got blood on your hands/clothes, then you could work it off by killing bandits. I think i'd like to see a sort of story form with sides taken, where the military has quarantined all affected areas, such as Chernerus, and are killing everyone as a safety measure. Then made a deal with certain civilians to become mercenaries and kill everyone they encountered in exchange for guaranteeing proper living quarters, food, etc within a compound to be setup at a later date inside the affected areas. So you'd have certain military uniforms on some people at the outset and you'd have mercenaries in regular clothes vs. a civilian population of survivors all wearing red band around there arm or something. I wouldn't even mind one bit if the military guys got to start with a rifle, i say that as a never-shoot-first survivor."
-
I'd like em to spawn people all around the out edges of the map so people would be coming past each other more often rather than following a path behind someone else, maintaining the distance. Not sure how you'd prevent people from going further north or west and getting lost though.

Why are we making it harder to be friendly??
libertine replied to Lidskjalf's topic in General Discussion
KOS is great. Not being able to KOS yourself because your roleplaying you being in the situation (the most immersive way to play a game in my experience), and would not kill someone for beans in reality unless they were seriously wronged me somehow, it makes it hard to be able to use your weapon without being shot at first and usually killed which isn't that fun really. Having finally decided to KOS myself last night, because so many douche bags are pissing me off, i've already racked up quite a few kills but that doesn't feel very satisfying since i know im probably killing some people just like myself. I'd almost rather they just declared it a PVP game.
