I have this too when SLI is enabled. I think it is a known problem for the Arma2 devs, but not the DayZ team. I believe its called Z-fighting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z-fighting

Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.114008
libertine replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Stopped rubberbanding until to "bullet run" out of some barracks. I only ran a short ways that way, then started running with the normal run for awhile and got sent back a little while after. -
I wish they would spawn people along the west and south coast, but remove all the balota loot except the aircraft control tower and hangers, then put a barracks and a tent or two in Cherno with some wrecked Humvees, etc because i think Cherno is one of the coolest game cities ever and deserves attention. I think that would help even out the travel across the map a little bit.

Its not ridiculous at all to think we'll be able simulate our vision perfectly. Or close enough. I've used 3D Vision for over 2000 hours now and i can see that a viewport to a holodeck is certainly possible. Its how it is now, only limited by current graphics technology and resolution. People who think 3D looks like the 3D in movies just haven't tried full 3D that matches your interpupilary distance. 3D in movies is a huge compromise meant to look decent to those in front vs. those in back vs. adults with high interpupilary distances (distance between the eyes, AKA IPD) vs. children with much lower IPD and whos eyes you don't want to cause to diverge outward. Its a weird thing, but in 3D things in the background get a lack of attention from the brain in a similar way to real life. The fact that everything is in focus isn't a big deal to me, in fact, i never noticed it until someone pointed it out. Then again, i do game a lot.

Why Mouse Acceleration in First Person desperately needs Fixing #2 *Long Post*
libertine replied to 27 others's topic in General Discussion
I couldn't agree more. In common shooters that are immersive, like Metro, when walking/sneaking around i will take it upon myself to control the movement so it is realistic and compliments immersion. Thats what we do 99% of the time in DayZ, rather than actual combat. Another factor is that our field of view in real life is about 180 degrees! When looking for things in houses, it would be so much easier in real life. The game doesn't represent that ease at all. Somebody should create a series of live action satire videos called DayZ Metagame. Episode one: A guy going through a building is about to exit through a door. Zombie yells behind him. He looks back at it. "Ah, cute little zombie. Look at you." Turns to leave. Tries to open door. Door open indicator doesn't come up. Moves around. "Dayz doors..." *shakes head*. Backs away. Indicator comes up then disappears. Looks around. Nope. Moves forward. Looks around. Comes up disappears. Starts getting a little panicky. Tries other weird movements to open the door until getting eaten ...you get the idea. -
How are they going to fix monitor gamma or gamma from graphics card menu.

No, i've just got way more life experience than you, thats the issue. You know when you were really young, sitting at the dinner table and didn't know what the hell your parents were talking about sometimes? It's like that. I aint typin out motherfucking War and Peace for you just to help you understand and clarify terms. If you want to start dishing out person insults, lets definitely do that, but in PM.
-
Btw, this fix is just a few lines of code if that. if(model is player model) then(base render distance = x) FOV setting, even screen size (effecting dpi) could be included easily in the evaluation, evening out all (most?) of the avenues for variation.

"Mommy, why do those people like like to play that way, i don't understand it, make them go away."

Your arguing the letter of the law, im arguing spirit of the law, if you know what that means. I hate to break it to you, but you'll find that the entire gamut of our laws and the basis's for the structure of our society are still and will always be up for debate and are always in question. I think you'll find that it is only the digital nature of software that prevents it from being completely owned by the end user and it is the desire for the cash residing in your wallet, to be put in the wallets of the investors, that are largely responsible for these policies(definitely NOT referring to Rocket there btw). What i mean by "ego" is... Take copying for example. In truth, there is nothing wrong with it, in any form, in and of itself. The basis for being against it lies in ego driven desires. Thats what i mean and if you're young, to make that more clear I would have to type out War and Peace. No thanks. I'm sure Rocket supports modding. Hes have to be one hell of a hypocrite if he didn't. For the alpha test, it could be different im sure. Im not arguing that, im arguing the basic principles behind human nature and undeniable validity of raw opinion and im arguing that none of the hate against this type of gameplay should exist. Your obviously not a long time member of audio/video forums. You could be better off for it...

This is a real problem. I can clearly see 3ft square windows on buildings while players next to it go into stick figure mode. It is already hard enough to find players with interiors and zombies not spawning with player presence.

Since they allowed the 3rd=off option, i don't hardly see any server available. I think it is unrealistic to expect people to switch over due to several factors i wont go into. I DO however wish they would implement the forth wall and also provide more control over your body like in Arma 3. Since i play a vigilante who only shoots after being shot at or must witness a murder that wasn't just self defence, i need to find as many players as i can to get some PvP in, which i love but cant do in this game because i always play games realistically and i know im not going to kill people for their beans in RL. So ill be in Cherno up on a high platform looking to witness a murder but must find people first. Its very hard to do when people aren't poking their heads out to realistically view the area, their often just sitting because cover, using 3rd, zooming in....

I would NEVER, EVER turn my flashlight on at night on a PvP server. NOT EVER. NOT FUCKING EVER! So in that case, with what we have had previously, my only options are to play with night vision or do the gamma trick. Said another way, my only options are to play with DAYLIGHT cast in shades of green (night vision) or shades of gray (gamma) for hours on end?... No thank you. Actually another option is to quit playing, which is exactly what i did when the private [daylight] Origins server i had been playing on went down while waiting for an update. I really think only a very new person to the game would actually turn on their flashlights at night on a PvP server. Maybe a non-KOS player who roams the woods and smaller towns... The solution: Limited visibility moonlit nights where you can still see the landscape and things in it, the colors remain, but you must look a little harder. That would work and potentially look beautiful too. Thats also more realistic because for one, you sleep at night, and two, you would probably often be doing things just before it got totally dark in real life.

Why is an AR-15 more accurate than an M4, aren't they the same more or less? Just occurred to me that i wouldn't mind an increase in accuracy in exchange for not returning the recoil back down at all.

Moral right? You've got to be joking. Most of humanities ideas about [not] "copying" and modifying are completely EGO based. Moral my ass. They exchanged money btw for a property they now own and they can have respect for Rockets desires while standing up for their own. Look at you, praising the status quo because it fits your needs, but you'd be complaining too if it didn't. BTW, i don't want to see a single complaint from you about anything that deviates from Rockets vision, you'd be violating and possibly endangering Rockets vision, nay his soul! How about no mods for Skyrim/Stalker/Halflife/[Arma 2] because the developers want to enforce their vision of the game... I've been saying it for a long time, if i have to keep following the "directors vision" for movies and games, i may not be a movie goer or gamer for much longer... .and Skyrim wasn't a jumping of cliff game and Arma2 wasn't a zombie game and on and on and on and on and on. It did start out 100% PvE did it not? For the same reason people play different games than others. For alpha testing, if its needed (server populatons get a little low at night here) then so be it.

How many people do you kill in a life on average?
libertine replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
This really shows why i want an subtle armband put on bandits. I don't want to kill any of guys on the ZERO list. I get bored though so i have started killing people for fun recently, joining in on the PVP mainly in the heavy PVP areas. But sometimes i have killed people and i feel like they may very well have been one of those ZERO guys just minding there own damn business. Like this one guy with a Mosen, looking over Elektro, way way up on the hill in the N.W. (not sniper hill) too far away to snipe anything. I thought he might be a PvE guy just checking out the action. He was being careful enough too, i just happened to spot him through the grass as he was crouch walking up to a fence. Or maybe he killed 30 people.. -
Just curious how many people would like to see the creepy music come back. The quality of the ambient music was one of the things that surprised me about the mod, along with the zombie animations, etc. The new sound guy was interviewed and said he was very against any music playing in the background. For most games i totally agree and i usually turn it off unless its very good or pleasant, like i thought Skyrim's was and some others. Sometimes i think its nice when your roaming the DayZ landscapes empty of players to be reminded that there is supposed to be something creepy and horrible happening here. In my case, i have turned the music down, but not off. I remember my first week playing the game, not knowing anything about it, entering the industrial side of Elecktro, knowing there were people killing other survivors there for some reason and climbing up on top of a high metal walkway and started staring over at central Elektro, wondering if i should go in, this part played right then... https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=r68uZehZqN8#t=180

In fairness, i did mean do YOU want to see music in, for yourself.

Doesn't matter in the context im referring too... and this is like saying playing the DayZ mod servers instead of Arma2 stock is wrong (oh and your pissing on the Arma 2 devs  ). The fact that you cant see that... Im guessing your young. Of course Rocket knows what game he like most for him, but some of these folks know what they like. As do people who downloaded a weapon mod for Arma and as do the people who passed on it. Its all preference and its all legitimate. If it effects testing or somehow off puts someone from DayZ (doubt that), thats another issue, which im not referring to.

Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.114008
libertine replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
I was running next to a guy briefly today, faster than him, using the run mode you get when your start running while in the boxing stance and hes yelled out that i should stop doing that because rubberbanding was still happening. Is that the cause? -
Zed, no matter what you think about Dean's application for godlyhood. He's still one man with one opinion and one life experience lending one set of primary preferences, like everybody else.

I have like 1500 hours of Operation Flashpoint alone, know what that is? It was the same back then and i still dislike it now. I'd really like it to go. I was doing the WW2 coastal battles re-enactments with the other zombie apocalypse survivors WW2 re-enactors today and was trying frantically to look up the hill above me and below and all around and it was just a wonky, weird, dizzy mess, even at 40+ fps. Heres the thing about looking around (not aiming a weapon or moving the body). Your eyes and your head work together to look around very quickly. You need only move your head 45 degrees to look 90 degrees right and left because your eyes move the remaining 45 degrees AND leave some room for a lot of peripheral view. All of the movements in the game are a compromise between looking around vs. moving around and looking vs. moving during a adrenaline fueled fire fight, but what we do most is look around. I agree though that there should be a realistic cap, but i do think that head movement should be a bit faster than body, but body turn rate should be as fast as it is when holding something.

I like that idea. Maybe they could make it so you could find a pamphlet as a loot item that was a how-to guide for a hunting rifle that explained how to use a scope's adjustments for new players. It could maybe even optionally take you to another place for target practice, alone with the rifle and some makeshift targets in the distance, of course warning you that your avatar would remain in the world unprotected if you proceeded. Thats a stretch though for the team i imagine.
