Combat Logging - Massive Game Killer for DayZ
libertine replied to crusader_111's topic in General Discussion
Killed a combat logger in the NWAF. Sniped at me for awhile from the other side of the last two aircraft hangers as i was running in there checking them. Couldn't see him with my M4, despite having an ACOG. Made it away from there, ran all the way around, past the tents. Luckily there was another guy for him to snipe and hold him attention and keep him firing so i could pinpoint his location. Found him up on the lookout platforms. Shot at him but couldn't get through the grating. He vanishes! WTF! I spent 15 minutes going through different high pop servers to find him. Gave up, went back to original server. Walked around corner. Look who it is..... On the ground right in front of me. Pause for a second. Nah. Put all 60 rounds into him. -

Guys, Why do i have no major issues beyond design issues? Hmmm.... Don't get me wrong, i hope you can get them solved. -
Same
-
Yes, but i need bandit skins or a bandit armband to know who to throw them at.
-
Was just thinking about this. We need more weather and and changes in times of day. Arbitrarily choosing to assign realism to the normal progression of time is annoying when you can patch a hole in your face with a bandage and go merrily on your way.
-
They might release a big patch, but keep in mind just one aspect of the game's code could take months to plan/code/test/fix/test/fix/test.... etc.
-
If it thins it out, then it wasn't compelling enough to keep them there. I played the sniper maps and other of UT99 mods, like that HUGE low gravity level where you jumped WAY up into the air -that im trying to find video of since i think i'd make a good "starter" game for the Oculus Rift. If you guys don't think mods offer any improvements, well im calling ignorance. You've tried Origins, with the sector B island? You seen the super well made Tavania map? You've seen Namalsk, where its snowing? Capo said people are tempted by the larger starting menu. But im opposed to that, yet i still like the mods better. Fuck i play in 3D and its amazingly immersive, making DayZ look like a holodeck and i get bored of running around exploring. Things become a known quantity and there are no more surprises in store for you and you know it.

A bit?

Do you play a bandit or hero or?

possible solution to 3PP imbalance?
libertine replied to burkino_026@yahoo.com's topic in General Discussion
The reticule doesn't quite line up with the actual aim of the weapon, at least some of the time, in my experience. My problem is the ambushing and observing from complete concealment which is why the "forth wall" idea sounds great along with more precise head movement control. -
HARDCORE - 3PP:OFF server/tactics/general

You can go to the corner of a building and look straight into it to get an idea of where you are in relation to 90 degrees. -
Question (not request): when is client optimisation likely?

There is definitely some weird stuff bottlenecking the rendering of the world and i don't think it has to. -
Being killed by server hoppers ruining game
libertine replied to braiboo's topic in General Discussion
That sound doesn't go very far if you didn't know. What, do you think it extended across the tarmac or something? People painstakingly check everywhere as they go along which is a lot of time for someone being careful. If they've carefully checked the other side of the runway 3 or 4 times in the last 7 minutes, they SHOULD be rewarded with their safety for a minute or two. Instead, dicks like you blink into existence in prime positions to cover huge areas with sniper rifles, put your fucking cursors over them and end their super fucking long journey up the the air fields. "Ppl get to eager to loot that they forget they are playing a game where ppl are out to get them." Yeah, PEOPLE, not apparitions appearing out of know where at any time in places you've just checked and "KNOW" (should know) that people can't be. -
The number of ignorant, short sighted folks in here is amazing. If people wanted to play the vanilla mod, they'd FUCKING DO IT. They don't, they got bored of it, as is human nature when there is a lack of new content. MODS ARE THE REASON IT LASTED FOR SO LONG FOR MANY PEOPLE.

What The Hell Is With The Slowdown Period For Zombies?
libertine replied to King of kong's topic in General Discussion
Am hoping for very fast zombies too. I think as long as their hearing is not better than a real humans, then sneaking around them will be fun and rewarding. The ONLY way to make zombies something to be feared... is to make them into something to be feared... -
I've tried double checking this a couple times now looking over Zelenogorsk, relaunching the game, zooming in and out first to get things loaded, etc. Keeps showing a 5fps increase on my Win 7, GTX 570 SLI, i7 2600+ 4ghz system. Test it out by loading up in the same server a couple times, staring at the same spot, and not changing your position. Get a 2 fps increase with the menu up too......... Temporarily, is there any way to keep some invisible menu up while playing devs ?

5 fps increase with -winxp launch option
libertine replied to libertine's topic in General Discussion
Bumping this because it really works well. -
Yup, good post Jayne Cobb, RIP post tho.

Lots are friendly, so your post is invalid and if they'd just give us bandit skins or preferable something a lot subtler there'd be a lot less "friendly!" and a lot more "pew pew".

5 fps increase with -winxp launch option
libertine replied to libertine's topic in General Discussion
Yeah when i alt-tab or change a graphics setting that resets the card. Totally worth it though once you've got your settings down or don't need to alt-tab. -

5 fps increase with -winxp launch option

Noticing that too. -
Except for you sleep at night... Right now, hardly anyone is going to turn on their flashlights anyway, which leaves two options, play in black and white or shades of green (night vision goggles). Both horrible choices when you could just do moonlit nights having reduced visibility, which would look fucking cool too. Why no one does this and only has daytime OR night time boggles my mind.

I never played the original, why is there 3rd person?
libertine replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
I like 1st, but there are definitely some clunkiness issues to work out first. It really grew on me when i started using it though in terms of how much more authentic it felt. I like knowing that if someone could see me, i could see them. It really hammered home how bullshit 3rd person is. I think for 1st to be up to par and usable it is important to have a higher server population because its harder to find players in first than 3rd. Also smoothing out animations, in terms of screen movement and some other things, like how your guns and hands twitch when you are still. Also having a lean system like Arma 3, where you can raise/lower your head and lean left/right to different degrees, while also controlling the speed of the lean, because right now its very very fast and can easily cause you to be seen since movement is such a factor in vision and it is hard to gauge how far you are going to lean out currently. You should be able to peek out slowly and just enough to get a peek, while still giving other players a realistic chance to see you. I think if they can do that, i think it will be much easier to enjoy 1st. Also gun animations when in first are so jerky, with instant, unexplained momentum increases that not right. That kind of stuff really needs to be on par with other current gen games for 1st to be accepted. Did you turn down head bob? -

Why the fuck did you buy a game in its alpha stage? Alpha means the shit is JUST starting to be developed. They've done A LOT of work so far, but thats just getting the basic stuff in place first, like texture, models, getting models to work with each other. Hiring additional staff takes time, Rocket is not a seasoned vet who has a long list of artists and other talent he knows would be an asset to the team, they could easily hire someone who's work wasn't quite what they wanted and had to constantly be re-done or modified. You know NOTHING about game development. Its like building a house with match sticks. I do have game dev experience and it is ABSOLUTELY UNSURPRISING that they are taking this long.
