  1. Ammo and where to find the guns (usually) would be helpful. And make sure you eventually do something on the crowbar, that would just be fun.
  2. There is a legit medic thread if you need some help http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3910-need-medical-assistance-we-can-help/

    Different unconscious timer overlay

I would love it if cartoon birds flew around in circles and tweeted while I was knocked cold.

    Blocking VOIP while playing Dayz

It would be easier to make voice chat always on... so if you are speaking out loud, chomping on doritos, whatever... you will be heard in the game. This is easy to sidestep, but it is the most realistic, immersive and fun solution that does not involve taking something away. People can still rip their microphones out and call each other on the phone, but most wont and it will make for funny situations. "Ok... I'm in elektro... and.. .DID SOMEBODY JUST FART?!"
  5. So one of my favorite features in survival games is looking for supplies and keeping my character alive and healthy. That said I would love to see food and drink eventually rebalanced. First of all I would like to see the health gained from each food item increased, and give each beverage a small ammount of healing... BUT food and drink creates a "full" or "satiated" status that does not allow you to consume anything else until you get hungry/thirsty again. For example yesterday my blood was down to like 5000... but it is ok, I killed and ate a whole cow, getting myself back up to a healthy level in no time. I would find it more interesting if each item healed a bit more (food 1000/500/200 for meat/cans/snaks and drink 500/200 for water/soda)... BUT once full it will probably be a long time before you can use food to increase your hp again. This would be more "realistic" than gobbling infinite amounts of food and would be both good and bad for solo players... sure each item you find heals a bit more, but over abundance is no longer exploitable. Thoughts?
  6. Golgo82 is super eloquent about the point I'm trying to make... consuming a supermarket is not the most "realistic" way to recover from a gunshot, given that DayZ tries not to be too gamey. I also love the idea of needing to make space for stuff... "I cant eat a steak right now, but I can fit in one of those granola bars that they added on the last (hypothetical) patch". I dont know if I would make survival require more food and drink... because I see a lot of new players complain about starving and dying of thirst, and that is alien to me. I get shot a lot, and get eaten a lot... but have never died due to my own lack of food.
  7. One member of my team is... reckless. Good news means he does our dirty work (he is great in a firefight) but the bad news means he gets us into trouble. The other day I died and he got my AKM... ... So while I run back to the barn where I died, I hear him on voice chat saying "this rifle is awesome... omg, I'm so close to 100 kills, yay!" and I'm crying inside... by the time I got there, he was out of ammo.
  8. When I started playing you spawned with a Makarov and a ton of ammo... so death meant "woo, Ammo refill!" Then they took away everything except for a flashlight, painkillers and a bandage. Then dying was MISERABLE. Now I'm good enough that I mostly find interesting loot when I respawn, and I think loot is less buggy than before... so sometimes I go looking for trouble, craving a chance to start again and have another set of adventures. I'm not a "10 days alive, 1000 zombies killed!" guy.
  9. And island would be rad. Well this would be a future thing, that might not happen until stand alone, arma 3 or maybe never... but my own thoughts on securing an area? Make posts that can be placed with a light emmitting lamp on top... and zombies cannot spawn within 10 meters of one. Slap down 10 to 20 of them and you have a base where zombies dont spawn... and that can practically be seen from space attracting all sorts of trouble. But yeah, not even walls stop zombies now... cant wait for that to be fixed, lol.
  10. Yeah, I think part of the idea of a "base" is that in DayZ nothing is sacred and somebody would eventually attack it.
  11. The way you write makes my head hurt, but I'm glad you are having fun. Once you get over the initial hump it is a fun game and the fact that you already have a friend in with you completely changes the feel from "frightening" to "fun... and frightening".
  12. I'm not sure if I can say "the more I play, the more I love this game". It was love at first sight... but for sure the more I play, the less I hate it. Now when I start a new character, I usually get good stuff in no time, and rarely die naked in the middle of nowhere covered in zombie bites. That said zombies are a still pain, so here are some quick ways to lose them: No weapon, or conserving ammo. Find a steep hill: if it is steep enough that you slow to a "walk" speed, it will do the same to them... then you get a nice head start once you go over the hill. Just dont stop to bandage yourself, or worse, make a fire and relax. They will keep walking in that direction even if they cant see you. This is useful between towns along the coast and in the middle of nowhere. Find a barn or warehouse: If you already have 3 or 4 zombies chasing you... well nothing wrong with adding a few more by running into a civilized area looking for a barn or warehouse. It should not be too hard to go in one door and out the other, usually losing the whole gang. Just be slow, and wait until they are halfway into the large structure. Find another player: You know... so he can help you... not so you can scrape off the whole group of zombies onto him (they chase the nearest player). If you do use him to scrape them off... well that is no worse than shooting a stranger, so expect to get shot if he has a gun. Take lots of corners: Run, take lots of corners, shortcuts, go around fences... and go prone once you dont see any zombies behind you (1 and 3 on the numpad). This takes some practice, and even then might not work. You have an axe, pistol or similar weapon. Edge of civilization: Let them chase you far out of town and then turn around and employ some slashes, headshots or other attacks. Why get out of town? To not attract more... it is better to face 2 zombies in the middle of nowhere than every zombie in town. Run into a house: Congratz, you are now trapped. If you use a quiet weapon, you can take them out one by one. If you use a loud weapon... expect lots of zombies to crawl through that door. Hope this helps other new players!

A few ways to lose zombies.

lol, me at my old office (when I worked in bank fraud) on Halloween... back when I weighed a bit more too. I was going to post docks and such but I have not used them much, at least not solo. With a team they are great to walk out on and have some head shot practice. With this new patch nerfing weapons my head shot rate is way up.
  14. Well tracking somebody down for revenge when you can walk away is murder, not self defense. That said had he walked away, I would not have seen this cool video. Good job!
  15. lol, that is everything that is good and bad about DayZ in one phrase. "The game gave me an emotionally charged ethical choice to make, and then it stopped working"

A few ways to lose zombies.

Yeah, I had gotten used to deaf zombies. Lost like 2k blood stuck in a little shack shooting my akm, until I finally followed my own advice... got far away, shot the couple that where still on me, took care of my wounds.
  17. Aww that is sad... I've had some short term team ups with strangers, honstly almost every one is memorable but fortunately none that tragic.
  18. I was having really bad lag/framerate on a server the other day and my friends where running faster than me. Then we switched servers and we all had great rates and ran at the same speed. My thought is that due to lag it was moving as though I pressed W rapidly rather than holding it down.

    Just joined a group.......I suck

If you want to be useful, get a hatchet. Everyone loves the guy who kills zombies silently when they approach the group. It is a hard, dangerous job, but they will probably heal you in exchange for your noiseless contribution.

    Tips for a newbie???

Also I'm finding that the open houses have better odds of holding at least a pistol or rifle than they used to. Just dont run into a place without exits if zombies are chasing you. Learn where you can find barns, at worse they have a crossbow but sometimes you can get some nice rifles, shotguns and hatchets in them. Also look for tool sheds for hatchets, they are better than most guns these days. Guard houses (tiny green buildings outside of other buildings) also often have pistols. If you can, print out a map (I use a 2x2). Now I kind of know my way around and dont need it as much, but it will help you a lot. Also if you are unarmed, dont be too afraid of getting shot... I mean talk about nothing to lose. Check those airfields, supermarkets and firehouses.

    BANDIT CLOTHING!!!!!!

For me the more clothing the merrier... I've seen that there are a lot of potential options of civilian and military outfits so viva variety
  22. I'm another big fan of the knockout idea. I know bandits will keep going lethal, and hidden... they are all ultimately cowards... but for survivors this will be a great fun option. Just make it so that it is not too long, due to bugs I spent some time unconcious and dont want to deal with that for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. Even one minute feels like a long time in game.

    Unconscious spawning bug

The good news is that after 3 or so log outs and log back ins at various moments, I'm no longer getting it with this character. Unfortuantely I have no real solution, just "it gets better". ;)
  24. So I was wondering... what bad habbits get you consistently killed? I'm trying to work on mine and figured I would share them and hear some from you new and experienced players. Podcasts: Sometimes I cannot resist the urge to have my headphones in while I play without team members... so I'll often ignore gun shots in the distance and die while listening to This American Life or some other show. Flares are pretty! If I'm playing solo and it is night time, I have a hard time not tossing flares and chemlights everywhere. They are a ton of fun to play with, but tossing a flare into a building is a great way of saying "hey, you should point your gun at the door, somebody is probably about to step in". Villages: The way this game is balanced, I run into more zombies in the many villages that dot the map than any city, military base, airfield or industrial area. Seriosly I should be able to go in, get some bad civilian gear, maybe a pistol or shotty, and get out. Instead I mostly visit Cherno and Elektro since the odds of getting shot are lower than the odds of getting chased by a train of zomibes (easier to shake them there too). Hi, how can I help you? In real life I'm a nice guy. Unfortunately I'm a nice guy in DayZ too. That means that my last words have been "Hi stranger, what can I do for you?". Solution? Not shoot on sight, but also dont be so trusting.

    Unconscious spawning bug

I'm having this problem now with the shock mechanic... got killed, and my current character is paying for it.
