    Sanctuary

    Rocket's made it very clear that he doesn't want any kind of scripted safe zones in the game, he would rather give players the tools to create their own trading areas then have forced mechanics, improved player construction for example, imagine a huge underground trading city maintained and built by a large group of players. Much more exciting.
  2. My understanding is there is no longer an active technical or support team for the mod and the recommendation is to migrate over to private hives instead. With Standalone getting closer to completion the mod ticket system is being worked on less and less. Time is simply being spent elsewhere at the moment so hive submissions, IP changes etc are going to be very slow at best.
  3. DayZ is a free mod for ArmA II, you are banned from ArmA II by BattlEye. Your ban really has nothing to do with us. Contact BattlEye as explained in the stickied threads, we can't help you here.

    Base Building in Standalone

    With talk of underground bases being instanced the game could just have you spawn outside next to it if destroyed, at the last location before you entered the instanced base.

    Kamenka > 3 deerstands > Zelengorsk > Starry/NW One of the better spawns.

    It's like that on purpose, if you load in on the debug plains the server will move you to the coast, otherwise you would be stuck if a hacker teleported you 500km off map. This was implemented in 1.7.2.4 back in July/August I believe.

    I'd prefer it if you referred to them as ArmA hipsters. I can understand peoples concerns, the PC community has been burned so many times with games being "ported" almost every time being told the console versions would have no effect on the PC version.

    People are more concerned that PC development will be hindered or dumbed down for consoles as has happened with many many other PC titles. Everyone knows cross-platform play is pretty much non-existent so that isn't really something people are worried about.

    Gear and location should remain. Occasionally all tents and vehicles disappear on server restart, if that's the case it should return at the next restart. (that's if that bug still exists) If you were driving when the server restarted or very close to it, it might be a few hundred metres back.

  21. While I am sure some method of statistical analysis could be used to determine a "server rating". I haven't ever seen such a system effectively implemented and I really don't expect to. If Valve already does this then it's extremely inefficient given the huge number of complaints about admin abuse on their forums while not being able to find a single reference to any server ever being removed (even from quick play) Even their own knowledge-base pretty much tells you to add the server to your personal blacklist and play elsewhere. https://support.stea...=8830-EOBN-8013 I'm very sceptical of these systems, the reports could just go to an unread mail server for all we know, at least it gives the impression something is done I guess. I do like the personal blacklist system they have though.
  22. I quite like the idea that a server is tied to the owners steam ID. My experience with reporting servers and player reporting too for that matter is they simply do not work, at least in every game I have ever played it hasn't worked. Where do the reports go? Who investigates these reports? How do they determine the report is genuine? Any popular game is going to get hundreds if not thousands of reports a day, that's a lot of time/money spent on support staff that could otherwise be spent on game development. I expect having these rules is good to fall back on in situations where a server is doing something significantly damaging but in most cases not much happens. While it's good in theory, I just don't think it's a practical solution, maybe it doesn't need to be though as most players seem satisfied if there is a mechanism in place for submitting reports, even if doing so has seemingly no outcome.
  23. Wrong game Ravey. The current plan is to have all servers connect to a single public hive with a list of predefined settings for customization (first person, third person, view distance etc but nothing crazy like we see in the mod with extra vehicles, custom loadouts and stuff like that. You can't prevent people closing down servers they are paying for, that's unreasonable although the damage will be lessened with all servers sharing a single hive (just need to spread your tents across various servers) Admin abuse is a tricky one and I'm not sure how they plan on handling that to be honest. Having a "Code of Conduct" simply doesn't work IMO and I can't really think of a practical alternative.
