This tweet might be of interest to some of you following this thread, Rocket was asked if he had considered removing third person (after the recent thread on removing the crosshair)

AA and then shadows are the only things that have a noticeable effect on my FPS, everything else is negligible. No idea if that's the same for others but that is my personal experience.

Are KOS kiddies cowardly and stoopid?
SmashT replied to Rastamaus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't find your comments particularly offensive but opening a thread by calling everyone who plays a certain way stupid cowards isn't exactly conducive to the discussion, personally I think player interaction is the most enjoyable aspect of the game but if others get their enjoyment from firefights then killing on sight isn't stupid at all, if it wasn't for these players the game would also be incredibly boring IMO. -
Are KOS kiddies cowardly and stoopid?
SmashT replied to Rastamaus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How about instead of attacking people you try and explain why you disagree with their playstyle in a polite manner. This doesn't mean changing "they are stupid and cowardly" to "their playstyle is stupid and cowardly" either. -
Anything up to 250 ping isn't really a problem in DayZ, most people I know play on US servers. Zombies are only a problem until you learn their mechanics, everyone dies from them at the beginning but soon they will become nothing more then a backdrop. Use buildings, trees, hills etc to lose them. They won't catch you if you simply run away. There are private hives with 5k+ members so worrying about playing against a small group of friends isn't really an issue unless you join one with only a handful of players.

Dealing with people getting free gear from other servers
SmashT replied to Wotuu's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It's a shared private hive that all Vilayer servers connect to. -
Run a fair distance away from the tank and back, usually fixes it.

Dealing with people getting free gear from other servers
SmashT replied to Wotuu's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You really can't, it comes with using a shared hive. Go private. You have no way of knowing how they got that gear (if it was through starting loadouts or by simply having them stored in a tent on another server) -
Admins may ban you for using hacked gear.

Actually, he read the direct quotes word for word from Rockets Q&A, he even showed the exact posts on the video as he read them and linked the original sources. You're welcome to your opinions but don't spread misinformation in your videos by incorrectly quoting Rocket, for example "Dean Hall announced about two days ago that the release date would be before April or by April" is simply incorrect, he didn't say that at all and if these are your opinions then you need to make that clear instead of saying it's what Rocket said. I actually quite enjoy your videos personally but the two I have watched have both been misleading and if I wasn't following the development closely I would have taken that information as factual when it's not. Take it as constructive criticism, as long as you use direct quotes from the original source then you can give your opinion or interpret that however you like as everyone can see what was actually said.

Read the stickies. Contact BattlEye. -
Why?

Add a river or remove debug plains and make the whole map an island and boats might actually be used. Making more then one faster then walking speed might also help.

This isn't an issue with BattlEye... -
Try an axe. Maybe if you could point the tip towards objects.

Slightly off topic, but can you prevent ESP cheats using information taken directly from client memory? (Player locations, direction facing, gear, health etc) Surely you have to send that information to the client at some point?

I haven't seen a bicycle in months :(

What if you don't have a gun?
-
Good point Rista, accessing tents, picking up items, climbing ladders is extremely clunky at the moment and having crosshair enabled helps you to find the "sweet spot"
-
Also after playing on a server with it removed, it's not really an issue with guns that you can aim down the sight with, however using an axe is a real pain.
-
For many players, playing an FPS without a crosshair is like shooting a gun without aiming and instead just pointing it in a general direction. Having a crosshair is norm for many players, not just new players. Personally it doesn't bother me but I imagine a lot of players would not be happy about not being given a server-side option.
